In case some of you didn’t know, I am a part of a collective/label called Filthy Panda with fellow pandas Willo and Burnsy. A trio of good mates who share a love for art+design+fashion, we make shirts. And all of our shirts are of course printed by the fine folks at Redbubble, big thanks go to Ed Redman who sorted us out in time for the event! Filthy Panda will be at Shirty07 on SATURDAY, selling their swag and swilling beers. Shirty07 is a new not-for-profit design initiative – a market selling only t-shirts. It’s an event that fuses fashion with art, music with culture; where guests can purchase unique t-shirt designs direct from independent designers, enjoy live music and chill out at the bar with a drink! At least that’s what it says on the flyer, all shirts are capped at $69 so everything is kept accessable. The flyer also says : The first Shirty will be held on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 15TH / Midday 2 Midnight / At the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre / 1 Bedford Street Newtown (opposite the train station) www.shirty07.com Shirty07 will seriously be sick, and you’re all invited! Hope to see you there, With love, The Filthy Panda team. xo!

Hey! I am about to start my Annual Leave, so I hope for a few nice days and I will take out the macro and hunt about. I have ordered one of those cheapo 1300mm lenses from New York. I have borrowed one of these from Shane Walker, and although they are not the sharpest lens out there, they perform very well for the price. So yeah, 2 weeks off to go play and hopefully I will have some little rippers to upload and sell to you all…. all of you…. some of you?.....anyone? hello?

The Arlington Museum of Art (AMA-TX)’s board president has just picked up, from mi casa, one of my very first and favorite [collages] called “JAZZ MASTERS NO. I” for the Seventh Annual AMA Auction coming up on January 25th, 2008!!!!!! This piece has been donated to AMA for this particular annual auction. I’ve also donated a 3-D piece entitled “ALKOHOLIK TEKNOLOGY” for last year’s auction. Each annual aution averages roughly around $100,000, which directly funds AMA. Ain’t this some fukkin’ awesome news y’all? I AM SO FREAKIN’ HAPPY RIGHT NOW. And I am so very sober nevertheless…I will be attending, not the gala itself for the tickets are $150.00 a piece, but the pre-gala party. And I am also a member of this small and new, but nevertheless a museum…. Congratulations to moi!!!! LOL. Thank you God, Phillipe

Tomorrow is the deadline to submit photos for the Annual Wilderness Wildlife Week Photo Compeitition here in Pigeon Forge, TN. I have entered it for the past 4 years, and will again be running around like a crazy woman tomorrow trying to get there with my work, by 5 pm. LOL You would think I would plan ahead since I know it is coming, but I always have such a hard time trying to decide which to enter. Even at this late hour, I am still not 100% sure, but I have it narrowed down to a few…I hope all of you will keep your fingers crossed, I really don’t expect to win, but it feels so good to see my work displayed for the public and to stand back and hear people comment as they walk by and look. I appreciate all of you taking time to read this, Kim

Did it last year, for the first time. Plan to do it again, this May. / Shall submit five paintings and walk around there a lot, on May 23 ( from 7:30 p.m..) and May 24 and 25, 2008, again. / Take some photos and particularly have a look at how my paintings shape up to the competition. / First heard of (read about) this annual event when my children were very little. / So little that there weren’t very many places we could go. / Saw the ad. for it in the local paper and thought that an art exhibition and ‘fair’, held, at a public school would surely be child-friendly and it was. / Last year it was fun to meet up with two colleagues there too. / They were the principal and his wife. / He and I had shared refereeing the soccer games, quite a few times, when his teams played against mine and she and I worked at the same school for most of the last eleven years of my teaching career. / .... / At this stage I’m thinking of entering this painting: / / (Two of the three girls don’t live too far away from the venue. Hopefully they’ll be having a look. / .... / And this one: / / She too, as far as I know, lives not too far away either. It would be fun to find out what she thinks of the painting. / I have tried to contact her via the shop where I met up with her, in December. Whether these people passed on my phone number, I don’t know. / ... / Art prizes are $100. / Major prize: (Judges Choice) $500 / .... / Funds raised are of course for improvements to the local children’s education. / .... / Entries close 5 May.

Well: Can I say that I did not know what I was taking on when I first suggested the idea? / I never expected the problems with PC’s and servers in getting the things sent , then trying to send them to our host for the exhibiton, that have been taking place. My PC is certainly groaning under the weight of the artworks I have received from you all so far: dead slow and stop seems to be about its speed at the moment. The exhibition is taking place, but I fear via the ‘muddling through’ approach rather than an entity crisply planned from the start. However…it is taking shape, though I may be resorting to snail mail now with some of the images you have sent me – which never seem to arrive at their desired destination. Things have not been helped much that I have had to take on 7-day or at least 6-day weeks of jay-job work in order to recoup one or two losses here and there. The taxman taking all my dough, along with dough I do not have. Anyway..than you all for your patience and for sending me your wonderful artworks. If you have not done so, I still need from some of you a statement of intent – in other words, what you are about as an artist, and an image, or link to an image, which is 500 pixels of more. Let’s keep working to get this thing on the road…....

Dear Friends, Diana Moya has just signed the contract with Frisco Square, for the space needed to promote this event again! She has always been an amazing friend, and very much involved with getting space for CREATIVE EXPRESSION! Once again, she has come thru for the Artists Community, with regards to showing Art I get added! I am working on the collecting images that Artists would like to add to this years event! As you know its open to all skills, talents, and levels. I will reserve the right to remove images that I do not feel are suitable! / Images should be ( 1024W X 768H at 72 DPI ) and jpeg files only. You can draw, color, paint, photograph, or any other form of creativity you wish to express yourself, but will have to send a jpeg file of your floral creation! Please limit to three images, and adjust size so my computer does not crash. Thanks Again! Very Sincerely, / Darrell M. Moseley Below, is the update posted to the Website for Frisco Square, and more information about Frisco Square! Fair in the Square Returns to Help Frisco Education Foundation and Frisco Family Services Center “Flowers for Peace” Art Experience Added Talley Amusements, which operates amusement rides at the State Fair of Texas and the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, offers safe rides for “children of all ages”, along with all your favorite fair foods and a midway. Coupons can be purchased at the Fair in the Square for $1.00 each or a book of 24 coupons for $20.00. Different attractions cost different numbers of coupons. Proceeds from the Fair in the Square benefit the Frisco Education Foundation scholarship fund. On Thursday, April 23 ONLY, visitors to the Fair in the Square may purchase an “All you can ride” wristband for $30. Also on Thursday, April 23 only, visitors who bring two (2) unopened cans of meat products will receive an additional discount of $5.00 off that same “All you can ride” wristband. Called “Meat the Need”, the cans of food will be donated to the Frisco Family Services Center food pantry and given to needy families. A new attraction, “Flowers for Peace”, will feature a digital presentation of student drawings and pictures of flowers from all over the world. Face painting, and even a sidewalk chalk drawing (Madonnari) contest where visitors vote to select the winner. “This is a new version of last year’s “Flower Power” event. We’re bringing color and beauty together for a good cause.” said Diana Moya, the event organizer. The 2009 schedule for the Fair in the Square is: April 22, 2009 – 5PM to 10PM April 23, 2009 – 5PM to 10PM April 24, 2009 – 5PM to Midnight April 25, 2009 – 11AM to Midnight April 26, 2009 – Noon to 11PM (April 23 is the only “All you can ride” wristband day) “2009 is our third year hosting the Fair in the Square.” said Cathy Sweeney, a Frisco Square spokesperson. We’re very proud of our association with the Frisco Education Foundation and Frisco Family Services Center. We’re pleased to offer this fun way to raise funds for deserving students and contribute to the food pantry in these difficult economic times. Including an art event again is also very exciting.”

Ok, so, this is late. But then so is nearly everything I do, so I’m guessing that it’s no real surprise… / I’ve had the pleasure of viewing a couple of journals about the Baccus Marsh trip for the RB Writers so I wanted to put one up as well. Unfortunately I’ve been incredibly lax in taking photos of entire events, so my journal just covers a somewhat smaller group, some of which are more like outtakes than anything else. Let me assure anyone that has not go their photo up here, please believe that it was due to my crapness and not your lack of photographibility….er…which is a made up word I know, but which I hope describes the fact that I’m really really sorry. For the crapness. Yup. =D? Here goes… Once upon a time…there were some pictures…

I have 12 days off, planning on outings to the beach with the dogs, off to some local swimming holes, a 3 day trip to Undara Lava Tubes and just having time to get the camera out and take some snaps. / Oh, the time off work and just quality time with my man and my dogs is the primary enjoyment and the rest is icing on the cake.

I am thinking of putting together a book showing the best of our Urban Wildlife Group in time for Christmas. The people I will use to publish the book would be Blurb.com who have software that allows one to design a very professional looking book including a dust jacket with inner flaps. Their pages also allow for text so one can make anything from a coffee table extravaganza to a recipe book. In order to do this, I would invite members to submit work that they consider worthy and I would also invite members whose work I admire who may have missed these notifications. For work submitted, I propose using a ‘Challenge’. It would be called the ‘Book Challenge’ and will allow you to submit one photograph of your best work. This would not be a challenge in the true sense, but would be a place to initially start gathering work for consideration. Other work would have to be submitted by email if you think it is worthy. All published photographers would have a full credit so we also need to know your real name, not your nickname! All those submitting work whether it be by invite or via the challenge, would also have to send me their images by email. Images must be of the highest quality and I would recommend sending full size images where possible. An accompanying text must also be sent with the submission. Basically this should say what the creature is and where it was photographed. Locations must not be vague, we will have a global audience as usual so ‘my back yard’ will not do, it tells us nothing. ‘My back yard, Tuscon, Texas, USA is better. The text is very important. One or two condensed but informative paragraphs are ideal telling what we are looking at, where it was photographed and how. Any interesting information about the species may also help, but please use your own words; don’t just ‘lift’ your text from Wikipedia or the like. Urban Wildlife means precisely that. It means the picture must be taken within the confines of a city or town. If it is two miles out from the city perched on a pole or crossing the road it is no longer ‘urban’. I really would like to stick to the strict confines of our group so please only submit pictures that were NOT taken out in the country or wild coast. A park within the city is fine, a park outside the city is not. So to sum up… 1. Your very best work. Jpeg Images only. / 2. Well written and informative accompanying text. / 3. Send you full size image and text (use Notepad to create a .txt file) to info@johnhootonphotography.com / 4, Include the URL of your picture so that I have a quick reference in Urban Wildlife c/o RedBubble. Although Christmas might sound quite a long way away, I have got to select, edit and compile the book by about mid November at the latest, so you can start submitting work straight away. I will limit the works to up to four per person. I think October 31st will be about the last date for submissions. I cannot guarantee that your work will appear in the book, it will be a compilation of the best of the best so there will be a limit on the number of pictures we can publish, however, I encourage you to submit your best work, and will very much welcome your effort whether it is published or not. I will probably plan the book in chapters, so we might have Birds, Insects, Butterflies, Wildlife, Mammals, Reptiles. I will probably skip flowers. We don’t have enough of them and there are stacks of books on flowers that are a subject on their own.. Bear in mind what our group is about. Start digging through your pictures and let’s create a book that we can be really proud of. By the way, books sell for a profit on Blurb and if by some miracle we happen to create a best seller, then profits would be divided up amongst the photographers on a picture by picture basis. The coffers would be reviewed every quarter. Let me know what you think by commenting, and I will attempt to answer any questions and reply here. John
