All proceeds from the purchase of this image will go to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As promised, I have gotten more info on this barn. Here it is, thanks to Gary L .Suddath for this info. This is the barn of Ephraim Bales.It housed a mule and a cow. Theres a scar which is visible in the shot on the side running diagonal.It was supposed to have been caused by wind blowing a tree over. Ephraim was afraid of the high winds and had added extra bracing in his stuff. Its located on The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail in the Smoky Mountains.

A Man came into a Wood one day with an axe in his hand, and begged all the Trees to give him a small branch which he wanted for a particular purpose. The Trees were good-natured and gave him one of their branches. What did the Man do but fix it into the axe head, and soon set to work cutting down tree after tree. Then the Trees saw how foolish they had been in giving their enemy the means of destroying themselves.

I photographed this black horse, when we camped at Holland Lake campground (Montana). He was one of the dude horses. He had a star on his forehead, identical to Black Beauty. I gave him my own private name of Blackie. The abstract qualities of this image have made it one of my favorite photos. Even though I took it years ago, it’s remained on the top of my list!
