  • This is a ruby red lacewing butterfly, and the way it had it’s proboscis inserted into the flower made me think of that moment when we first get a nice thick milkshake, and we are sucking hard on the straw, fighting against the frozen delight to extract it’s sweet creaminess!

  • This is Chloe’s delightful Hammy Minnie (she sleeps in the lounge – in her cage of course! at night as she has the tendancy to eat the bars of the cage and generally do whatever it is that Hamsters do – not good when you have to rise at 5.30am though!) so now we get her clonking through our films and programmes but it’s worth it – she and Ollie have come to a recent understanding – he looks at her and she at him! Now just before we retire we pop a little treat in her house – at the moment it’s banana chips! Here she is waiting to see if anything will come out of the camera – I swear she is smiling! Chloe has yet to see this shot so this will be a nice surprise for her I think! I would prefer for the bowls not to be in the shot but to crop them out would mean losing so much of the photo – it’s reality shooting :) Taken with the Canon 400d with the Canon 50mm lens – no flash fired taken in the Tungsten light mode – slightly sharpened and noise removed in Paintshop due to the plastic of the cage! Hope she makes you smile :) Placed 1st in the “Playful Photogenic Pets group challenge / The other Pets Sept 09 / Featured in Pet Rodents 1st June ‘09 / Placed 2nd in the Pets are Us June Avatar Challenge 29th May 09 / Featured in Pets are Us 13th May ‘09* Thank you :))) / Featured in Funny Kritters Feb 14th 09 Thankyou we are all thrilled :))

  • WILD & FREE / / Gentoo Penguin feeding its Chick. (Antarctic Peninsula) Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula – a direct result of global warming, warns a new report from the WWF. • Photograph taken with Sony Cybershot early this morning – 20 May 2009. Other than cropping for redbubble the picture is as ‘real’ as it gets, ‘untouched’ and ‘as is’. The metal man had arrived and was reinforcing Alkatraz aka ‘The Den’ as my pooches have become little Houdini’s amongst other things. The sound of the drill scared them and they came to me for protection – being the evil mother that I am I left them sitting and tried to catch the moment. To get all six in one place and not chewing, fighting, digging or eating was simply beautiful. The title is inspired by a Nusrery Rhyme that my Nannan used to ‘play’ with me ….it fits perfectly … There were six in a bed / And the little one said / “Roll over, roll over” / So they all rolled over / And one fell out There were five in a bed…. / Lyrics courtesy The Teachers Guide ACRYLIC ART CALENDARS CARDS POETRY PHOTOGRAPHY – ANIMALS PHOTOGRAPHY -CANDID SHOTS PHOTOGRAPHY – CATS AND DOGS / CATS / DOGS PHOTOGRAPHY – CONTEMPORARY WORK PHOTOGRAPHY – FLOWERS PHOTOGRAPHY – INSECTS PHOTOGRAPHY – TRADITIONALLY TURKISH PHOTOGRAPHY – TREE AND TREE PARTS T-SHİRTS —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- / CATS ARE US / CHLOE / DIBLEY / KAR / MINTY / LINFORD / “LISA“ / “OLLIE“ / “OTHERS“ DOGS ARE US / BELA / CLYDE -ROTTWEILER PUP / LUCKY / MOLLIE -ROTTWEILER PUP / ROTTWEILER PUPS – THE FIRST FOUR WEEKS / ROTTWEILER PUPS – FOUR WEEKS AND ON / ROTTWEILER PUPS – EIGHT WEEKS AND COUNTING / TROY / “OTHERS“ ROTTWEILER PUPS A litter of 9 rottweiler puppies pups was born 24th March 2009. / Their mother is Bela and he father is Troy. / Taken with Sony Cybershot 14 May 2009. The smallest of the three boys – short haired with very big feet! The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund (“Butchers Dog”), is a “medium to large size, stalwart dog” breed originating in Germany as a herding dog. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market. “Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.” The Rottweiler was kept busy in these traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railroads replaced droving for getting livestock to market. Although there are still Rottweilers working stock all over the world, many other roles have been found for this versatile breed. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles including as messenger, draught and guard dogs. Currently they are often used as search and rescue, assistance, guide dogs for the blind, guard and police dogs in addition to their traditional roles. Although an extremely versatile breed used in recent times for many other purposes, the Rottweiler is first and foremost one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of herding breeds. A multi-faceted herding and stock protection dog of exceptional ability, it is capable of working all kinds of livestock under a wide variety of conditions. The breed is an ancient one, whose history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions traveled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army traveled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil. The principal ancestors of the first Rottweilers during this time was supposed to be the Roman droving dog, local dogs the army met on its travels, and dogs with molosser appearance coming from England and The Netherlands. This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. However, by the end of the 19th century as railroads became the main method for moving stock to market, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil. • I am sooooo pleased that I planted this Crab Apple tree nearly 20 years ago when we moved into our (then) brand new home. The tree has grown up to provide a wonderful haven for all our garden birds, large and small alike – winter and summer. Today it was full of fledgling birds – starlings, blackbirds, sparrows, (even a squirrel!) and cuties like this Great Tit (parus major) – all waiting, preening, dozing (hard life being a baby bird) and begging for food! Wish I could share it all with you but this one guy will have to serve as the ambassador for the cause! Difficult to get shots now the leaves are on the trees, but this one obliged! • Baby Snowy Owl (bubo scandiacus) ... yeah I know he doesn’t live up to his name yet. He was creating quite a racket, squawking for someone, anyone, to feed him! Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 24-105mm L f/4
