Caught this guy on evening right at dusk in Key West. He looked cool in silhouette. Gave it a watercolor effect and changed the lighting a little bit.

I was attracted by a sparrow that looked as if he was dreaming of something. I thought that he had a very colorful dream…
The Blue Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates azureus) was discovered in 1968 on a rain forest island in Columbia, South America. Their cobalt blue color makes thm appear to be ceramic objects fired with an English blue glazing. These frogs have a toxic chemical in their skin. Colors range from white to black with skeleton like stripes that aid in camouflage at night as they are mostly nocturnal. Poison or toxin from the skin of dart frogs are being studied for their potential use in pharmaceutical technology in hope’s of finding cures for cancer and other diseases. Over 800 previously unknown alkaloid compounds have been discovered. One frog alkaloid has the analgesic potency 200 times stronger than morphine. The deadliest of these frogs is phallobates terribilis , the true arrow poison frog. It has a toxin in it’s skin known as batrachotoxin. The purpose of this in skin secretions of the frog is believed to be a protection against infectious bacteria in their tropical rain forest environment. Research began in the 1970’s starting in Panama and still goes on today where new species of arrow poison frogs are being discovered every few months. The herpetologist and biochemist that lead this field until his death in 1988 was John William Daly from the department of Herpetology at the American Museum of Natural History. All interested young students are called upon to continue these studies / which benefit all mankind.
