Pseudochromis paccagnellae Royal Dottyback, a popular marine aquarium fish from Indonesia
The world’s largest reptile is the Saltwater Crocodile, growing up to 18 feet which is farmed for its meat and skin. Of the 22 remaining species of crocodilians (crocodiles, alligators and gharials), 17 are considered to be in grave danger of extinction. / The ‘Fantasea Collection’ wildlife design portrays the energy & spirit of the prehistoric Crocodile, the shy Fijian Banded Iguana, the exotic Green Iguana and the fastest known insect, the colorful dragonfly while creating an awareness that many reptiles are in danger of extinction.
Endangered Dugongs, or sea cows, were often perceived as mermaids by superstitious sailors because of their flattened fluke tails. Cutting swathes through the aquatic vegetation as they graze in herds, their distribution is closely related to their main source of food, seagrass. Seagrasses are the only flowering plants in the sea – their closest relative on land is the water lily. / The ‘Fantasea Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the peaceful & shy Dugongs grazing the seagrasses, graceful swimmers with a chirpy call earning them the nick name of the ‘sea canary’. The Spotted Eagle Ray & Horned Sea Stars, the Hawksbill Turtle & Sea Horse with pigface flowers that grow along the sandy beaches. The design creates an awareness of our endangered sirenians.
Threatened Sea Otters are the smallest marine mammal in North America, once living along the coastal North Pacific Ocean before fur traders hunted them for their thick, luxurious pelts. The Sea Otter has the finest and densest of any animal fur, which they rely on for insulation as they don’t have blubber. They are particularly vulnerable to the detrimental effect of an oil spill. Soiling of the fur allows chilly ocean water to penetrate to the skin causing death. Otters were also found drowning in gill nets. Sea Otter’s spend 48% of daylight hours grooming their brown to black fur and they feed on marine invertebrates using tools to pry prey from rocks. They are watchful, charismatic and sleep, rest and swim on their backs. The mother gives birth to a single pup each year and the pups are so bouyant they cannot dive underwater and are seen bobbing beside or resting upon mothers. / The ‘Fantasea Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the enchanting, cheeky & inquisitive Sea Otters, the reclusive Monk Seal and the adorable Harp Seal while creating an awareness of their plight.
The endangered Snow Leopard is the most beautiful and rarest of all the big cats, and is found at high altitudes in and around the Himalayas and summers in the Tibetan Highlands. Their long, thick, beautifully marked fur protects them from the harsh weather of their remote mountain home. A Snow Leopard has a cushion of hair on the underside of its paws which not only keeps its feet warm, but also spreads its weight and helps it to run across snow without sinking too deeply. Leaps of 45 feet (15 metres) have been observed. The Snow Leopard resembles the big cats in size but have many characteristics of smaller cats, they cannot roar but purr and feed in a crouched position as do domestic cats. A solitary animal, although males and females hunt together during the mating season, its survival is threatened by illegal fur trappers. Snow Leopard pelts are highly prized by the mountain people and skins are still regularly seen on sale in Kashmir. / The ‘Exotica Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the lovely and seldom seen Snow Leopard surrounded by blue poppies that grow in the snow while creating an awareness of their plight.
Chambered Nautilus Nautilus pompilius can usually be found on the sea floor at depths of 150m+, it swims into shallower water at night to prey on small fish. Nautilus use their strong sense of smell to track their prey, and because of their ability to adjust the distribution of gas with each chamber, are deft at moving through the water column. DEPTH RANGE: 200-300 m. DISTRIBUTION: PNG, central Indo-Pacific. / View my underwater collection here Take a look at my other photos / Klipz Card Shop Add me to your watchlist /

The turkey vultures from Cuba I saw these birds flying high in the sky in most areas but to high to capture a image even with the strongest of lens when came the visit to the mountains my luck was finally in when I saw them perched on this tree… Turkey Vulture is an excellent flyer. It endlessly soars with wings held in V-shape and teetering from side to side. It performs infrequent wing beats, taking advantage of raising thermals. / Wing beats and take off are laborious, but it soars very easily. It is able to glide during six hours without any flapping. Part of the Cuban experience… (-:

`Ale `eke / Hawaiian Translation: Sand Turtle / Sand Crab / Ku`au Beach Maui Hawai`i The `ala `eke, the Pacific mole crab. Commonly known as Sand Turtles, these crabs live at the water`s edge where they ride up and down the beach with the waves in search of their favourite food, man o`war. If they are threatened, they immediately burrow out of sight in the wet sand, the reason they are called mole crabs. Usually not more than an inch long, the `ala `eke have rounded shells which give them their popular local name, / Sand Turtles ~ http://world-turtle-trust.org/turtleinfo.html My images do not belong to the public domain.
