Meet Mo. He is a little squirrel who loves the quiet of the darkness. He loves making wishes and shooting them into the sky towards the twinkling stars! Will his wishes all come true? This is a print of an original illustration that I did with ink and digitally colored. Mo and Teeny are two little squirrels that live in my head….they had to come out eventually! Found after a hurricane, this little baby squirrel spent a few days with us before going to a wildlife rehab center. He was very sweet.

As a child, my treasured stuffed animal (as all children tend to have) was a little squirrel who went on every kind of adventure with me, and my favorite story was about a lil’ squirrel named “Miss Suzy” – written by Miriam Young, and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. I love the thought of the tiny leaf-boat capturing the attention of the denizens of the pond as it passes by en route to a wonderous place. January 10th, 2009 – WOW!! This is Rowdy, on the first day that I rescued him. I had just stepped outside when I heard a lot of noise way high up in the pine trees right in front of our house. I looked up and saw a huge crow had dropped a much smaller something that was crashing through the pine limbs and headed right for me. The tiny little critter landed about 3 feet from me and let out a scream that I think you could have heard in the next county. I raced over to it before any of my cats that were already on their way could get to it. I picked it up, stuck it under my shirt, ran in the house. Upon inspection I realized that it was a tiny, eyes-still-closed baby Eastern Gray Squirrel. / / Lucky for Rowdy he was one fat very wiggly little baby that must have been too much for the crow to hold on to. I took this photo of him after I had fed him his first meal away from mom. Since I had never raised a baby squirrel before I headed to the internet for help, found a site with lots of information and some wonderful ladies that told me everything I needed to get him to grow up to be big, beautiful and healthy. One interesting note. I was told that to know his birth date that all I had to do was wait for his eyes to open count back 5 weeks and that should be just about when he was born. I waited for a few weeks, his eyes opened, counted back, born Aug.3. his birth date, is the same day as mine! He will be 6 years old, on Aug.3rd. I will be somewhat older, however. /

Autumn has arrived here in the UK and the squirrels are everywhere, gathering nuts for the winter. I payed a visit to Belle Vue Park in Newport, South Wales today to watch them play. Image taken with a Canon EOS 500D and 250mm lens.
