In 2004 I became involved with the pet reptile industry which was new to Western Australia. We were one of the last states to come on board and were behind the rest of Australia, Europe and the US by at least 10 years in experience and breeding. As well as looking after the animals I was also photographing them for catalogues, websites and advertising. When I photograph I try to find the “essence” of a subject and normally find that when I photograph “up close and personal”. Reptiles are some of the most amazing creatures “up close and personal” as you can see from my designs. I didn’t really have a uniform so I went looking for “reptile” tshirts for women to wear to work and was sadly disappointed in what I found. So I set out to design a range of images for shirts for all those girls out there that like our cold and scaly friends!

We have launched our first challenges and invite our wonderful members to take a look and enter their best works. We also invite all our friends to join, even if you do not paint. If you love wildlife and pets and would like to write about the subjects, we are very happy to have you join our group and submit your writing and chat to us in the forums. Every little helps in our passion to make the world more aware of the need to support and help other creatures. As the group is for realistic hand painted art, unfortunately photography and digital art will not be accepted. Our group only started a few days ago and there are stunning works of art to be seen. We would like to keep bmails to a mimimum and encourage our members to use the forums instead. We all love what we do so much and it would be wonderful to get to know one another and share that love in the forums. The challenges are: / Pet Paintings / and / Wildlife Paintings – Endangered Species Thank you / :-)

Yesterday, Saturday June 13, some of the hardier ‘Geelong Throngers’ braved the cold weather to visit Melbourne Zoo. It was good to meet up with familiar faces again and have a look at those animals that weren’t snuggled up somewhere warm. I spent some time with Kathryn lphotographing animals and drooling over handsome men!! Anyway, came away with a few reasonable shots ….. 1. / / I’m so cute I can’t stand it!! 2. / / Who’s a pretty girl??? 3. / / Mandrill 4. / / Boring! 5. / / Napping 6. / / Hiding 7. / / Little Frog 8. / / Peeking 9. / / Wrapped up! This snake must have recently enjoyed a large meal judging by it’s distended belly. 10. / / Lizard 11. / / Where are you? 12. / / Rebuff? 13. / / Monkey trio 14. / / The pigeon is about to get the fright of it’s life. It kept walking closer to the gorilla and, when it was in swatting range, a huge paw came out and swiped at it. This happened several times in a row. I think they were both having a bit of fun.

Just a bit of news on my end: I will be featuring some gecko artwork at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, PA, USA from July 25 through September 7, 2009. The Gecko art show runs in conjunction with the Academy’s live gecko exhibit (see http://www.ansp.org/geckos/highlights.php). Opening night reception and sale is July 24, 5:30 to 7:30 PM. This art show came about when the Academy put out a call for local artists to take 12” “blank” resin gecko sculptures and decorate them in whatever manner they wanted. I painted my gecko gold and then embellished with paper and foil cutouts, which I then coated with some layers of Modge Podge (a type of sealer) to keep in place. Having not worked with any sculptures before, it was a bit of a challenge for me to work in 3D. I have some more ideas of what I would do differently if given another chance, but overall, I think the result is interesting. I call him “Golden Gecko”. Below are some photos:

After two years work my latest fine art photographic series ‘Native Australian Portraits’ is ready to exhibit. It is a collection of 30 intimate images of native Australian wildlife including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. 50% of profits from the sale of limited edition prints (run of 500) are donated to the Australian Koala Foundation to help secure habitat and protect this Australian icon. I am currently seeking exhibition opportunities in Australia and overseas. As I wrote previously, I currently have an art piece entitled “Golden Gecko” on exhibit at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, PA, along with 75 other artists’ works. The Academy had professional and amateur artists decorate gecko “blanks” in conjunction with their current live gecko exhibit. You can now view ALL the geckos submitted online here: http://www.ansp.org/artofthegecko/gallery-1.php Mine is no. 4 “Golden Gecko” on gallery 1. I got to see all of these geckos in person and was blown away by some of the submissions. If you are in the area, please check it out. Lynnette
