I think this is the first time I was able to get as close as I was to this beautiful fellow. I was so pleased when I uploaded it onto the computer and saw the results. I do believe it is one of my better ones. My shot -Snowy Owl has been featured in the following four groups: In the Core [C.O.R.E.] Group In the Zoophoria Group In Animal photography Group And in the All That Is Nature Group Believe me this has had selective colouring on the shot it is just that the owl is mainly white. The original shot was taken in The Cornish Birds of Prey Centre & Animal Park in Cornwall. I have been playing about with it again; a crop here to focus tight on his beautiful eyes and selective colouring there and this is the result which I love. I hope you like it and thank you for viewing. The selective colouring was made in Photoshop Elements 6 NIKON D60 DSLR / F-stop f/9 / Exposure time 1/500 sec / ISO speed 100 / Aperture priority / Focal length 190 mm on a 70 – 300 mm Nikon lens This was the original colour shot. WILD & FREE / / Polar bear mother praying for some ice so she may hunt to feed her cubs. / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hut! The Snowy Owl – The Snowy Owl is a large, diurnal white Owl that has a rounded head, yellow eyes and black bill. The feet are heavily feathered. A distinctive white Owl, their overall plumage is variably barred or speckled with thin, black, horizontal bars or spots. Females and juveniles are more heavily marked than males – adult males may be almost pure white, although they have up to three tail bands. Adult females are distinctly barred throughout, and have from four to six tail bands. Immatures are very heavily barred throughout, and dark spotting may codominate or dominate the overall plumage. Snowy Owl calls are varied, but the alarm call is a barking, almost quacking krek-krek-krek-krek; the female also has a softer mewling pyee-pyee-pyee-pyee or “prek-prek-prek”... So unlike the one they use in the Harry Potter films, this Hedwig is actually female. They use male birds to portray her in the film because a bird with an all white plumage looks more impressive they think! bit of unless knowledge for you eh?

Juvenile Snowy Owl (bubo scandiacus) stretches his wings preparing for take-off!!! Yours truly wasn’t using a lens which was wide enough for his wingspan but I’m still glad I went for the shot anyway. Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 70-200mm IS f/4 L

I’m not really sure what this Ural Owl (strix uralensis) had been up to, but he sure looks like he could do with a hairdryer. Hawk Conservancy, Andover, Hampshire. Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 400mm F/4 L

This was taken at my work. He let me get about 4 ft from him. I am sure I could have gotten closer but his sharp claws and beak scared me LOL. Yes sitting on our mailbox :) He is a Goshawk. Possibly still a juvenile but I am unsure. Taken in Atlanta, Georgia – My Atlanta Hawk / Nikon D80 / 55-200mm Tamron lense / 200mm / f/4.5 / 1/80 / ISO 100 I did crop out the numbers on the mail box other than that as is from camera. / Hope you enjoy it. /
This aptly named Little Owl (athene noctua) may be a pocket-sized featherball but he looks like he doesn’t take prisoners! He did a great flying display for the spectators and apparently isn’t particular if he knocks your eye out while doing so! That’s my boy! ;o) Hawk Conservancy, Andover, Hampshire. Well you have to admit this guy’s footwear matches his feathery coat. This is a juvenile Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus). When he is mature, he will have almost pure white plumage. Female Snowys have black bars (so this fella must be feeling a bit of a pansy at the moment!) ;o) Birdworld, Farnham, England Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 70-200mm L IS f/4 handheld
