I don’t know why this has loaded horizontally, the original is as a portrait! and it is meant to be portrait, so everybody twist your heads!! Sorry. I have tried twice to get it the other way round, / Any solutions out there?

The Great Barrier Reef, Australia’s most famous World heritage area, is under increasing threat from land based sources of pollution, destructive fishing practices, urban coastal development and global warming. Sea bottom trawling is also destroying the Great Barrier Reef as well as threatening the survival of critically endangered marine turtle species. A highly destructive activity virtually stripping the sea floor, killing coral, sponges, fish and other forms of marine life. Over the past twenty years it has drastically reduced sponges, corals and other vulnerable sea bed species. / The ‘Fantasea Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the striking Lionfish and playful Clownfish that swim in our endangered Coral Reefs.

Standing close to four feet high, the Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is one of the most majestic of birds. This fellow was fishing for his morning breakfast and didn’t seem to mind my intrusion. Photographed in Lake County, Florida.

I found this young buck in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park… right next to the road. Canon 20D, Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS, braced against the truck window (sitting inside). Featured twice in America’s National Parks and Wildlife Habitat.

This is acrylic on canvas board 10×14 inches. They were done as a gift for my Aunt from an old photograph of her daughters much loved but long passed pets. After uploading last week I decided to do some more work on the puppies. I previously used a red for the shadows around the dogs necks and it wasn’t until I uploaded that I realised it looked like they had cut throats. How could I have not seen that.

The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund (“Butchers Dog”), is a “medium to large size, stalwart dog” breed originating in Germany as a herding dog. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market. “Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.” The Rottweiler was kept busy in these traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railroads replaced droving for getting livestock to market. Although there are still Rottweilers working stock all over the world, many other roles have been found for this versatile breed. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles including as messenger, draught and guard dogs. Currently they are often used as search and rescue, assistance, guide dogs for the blind, guard and police dogs in addition to their traditional roles. Although an extremely versatile breed used in recent times for many other purposes, the Rottweiler is first and foremost one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of herding breeds. A multi-faceted herding and stock protection dog of exceptional ability, it is capable of working all kinds of livestock under a wide variety of conditions. The breed is an ancient one, whose history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions traveled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army traveled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil. The principal ancestors of the first Rottweilers during this time was supposed to be the Roman droving dog, local dogs the army met on its travels, and dogs with molosser appearance coming from England and The Netherlands. This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. However, by the end of the 19th century as railroads became the main method for moving stock to market, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil.

Great Crested Grebe series Great Crested Grebe (wikipedia ) on the city canals in Weesp, the Netherlands – carrying it’s young on it’s back… / It was a very clear day, and the reflections on the water of the flowered canal walls and houses was enormous… and I didn’t have a strong telelens back then… Still, I just couldn’t stop trying and shooting along… Looks like a painting, isn’t it!
