  • This fox has been coming into the garden every day recently. It usually curls up in a particular corner and goes to sleep when my dog isn’t roaming the yard. On this occasion, I sat behind the gate (about 10 feet from the fox), hoping for a decent picture. I managed to take this just before Harpur lunged at the gate and scared the fox away. I think Harpur’s just jealous because I keep feeding the fox his biscuits! :-) Photography by Jennifer Woodward © 2008

  • I was not going to leave the zoo without this image. The beautiful bird, I first saw the outlines of through the man planted flora, gracefully glided across the artificial pond. Its motion cut a gentle trail in the small, evening breeze caused ripples. I set an ambush at the narrow part of the pond and waited patiently. No good. The introverted animal was too edgy when passing by, and emerged in and out of the dark shadows at unpredictable intervals. This was going to be a long haul. Luckily, with the ambient light we both needed running out quickly, my desire to capture the elegant curves of this creature and its routine craving to nibble a bit before the day expired reached an uneasy, but welcomed equilibrium. I held my breath and pushed the button with my cold stiffened finger. Timeless beauty. This is not a great story, just a blurb, with a moral that outweighs its size. The ever relevant message to those who take away your freedom is to realize they will never be able to deprive you of your Dignity, your Grace.

  • Oil Pastel and Acrylic on old wood with slight digital enhancements Ophelia, puzzled by the radical transformation that had taken place overnight to this butterfly friend of hers, thought to herself, “She was in a white thread-like casing yesterday, how did all that happen so fast? There must be something magical about that case!” This is inspired by a book Hope For The Flowers by Trina Paulus. This is a cute and yet thought provoking story about two caterpillars who because they mistake the meaning of their urge to get high, get entangled climbing a horrible “caterpillar pillar”. And for two caterpillars, we all know, surrendering to the cocoon is the only way to finally fly. Hope For the Flowers is a book that celebrates HOPE. My fave lines from the book is “How does one become a butterfly?” She asked pensively. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.” We are all meant to be as beautiful and free like the butterflies, that’s our destiny…as we free ourselves to be who we really are…and together with our innate talents,we bring hope to the world around us, bringing change inevitably around us :D / You can view and buy my other “Metamorphosis” creations from my Zazzle Gallery:

  • Vincent’s Cat Recently I’ve been looking at Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings. I love his irises and wanted to paint some myself. Their complicated forms and brilliant deep blues captivated me. As some of you may know I have a fondness for cats. During my life I have had two exceptional ginger cats ‘Victor’ and ‘Mittens’ who were very dear to me; this is dedicated to their memory. Acrylic on canvas / Size: 30cm x 30cm Original SOLD

  • Al Fresco Cats / Acrylic on canvas / Size: 505mm x 405mm I’m combining three of the loves of my life here – cats, gardens and food. / These two cats resemble a couple of cats I had as a child, Skittle (black and white) and Victor (marmalade). They are just deciding what to eat first, perhaps the cheese…as / there seems no meat available.

  • The Chaffinch is one of my favourite garden birds. They are colourful, cheeky and have a lovely warbling song that always puts me in mind of springtime. This little fella, photographed in our “white out” the other day, looks to be a youngster as the top of his head is not the typical pure grey. If there are any birdie experts out there who could clarify this, I would be much obliged! Canon EOS 50D with Canon EOS 400mm L f/5.6 handheld

  • Honeyeater captures a view of one of these beautiful yet shy birds at the National Botanic Gardens in Canberra. Behind the scenes / Too many times, I’ve missed a great shot of birds like this one because of hesitation. I’ve waited, my finger poised on the shutter button for the perfect shot. To capture this image, I tried a different tactic, shooting many frames rapidly capturing the bird in a variety of poses. This was one of the successful shots, capturing the bird in a fantastic posture it held for only a split second. / Canon 1Ds mkIII | EF 100-400mm | 1.4x Extender Artwork / This is a striking image and an ideal addition to any decor. The subject creates a focal point while soft colours ensure it isn’t imposing. Take it home, to the office or share it as a gift! © 2009 A Spence. All Rights Reserved

  • I’ve been looking for some Amanita muscaria without success but I thought I might just put up a few other “guys” I found while looking. These tiny guys were growing out of a recently fallen old stag (dead tree). Not colourful but cute just the same. / 307 Viewings in Nov 2009 Canon EOS 40D / Aperture-Priority AE / Shutter Speed 0.4 / Aperture Value 22.0 / Spot Metering / ISO Speed 800 / Lens EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Featured in / Forests / Fungilicious / Nature’s Wonders / Top Shelf Wildlife & Nature Art / Extreme Close-Ups

  • Allow me to introduce “the Wormster” and one of his fledgling blackbirds, having lunch today. Wormie got his name because he’d frequently follow me around my back garden with a beak full of worms. This was apparently his way of dropping a hint to me to put out dried worms and suet nibbles for him to feed his babies. Often when I go into the garden Wormie is out there cheeping persistently at me for his favourite menu. He normally sits on top of our garden shed, the lamppost or in the hanging baskets, and has even hopped right into our kitchen and onto the draining board demanding attention! He really is a busy fellow and dedicated dad…. Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 70-200mm L f/4

  • Featured “The Woman Photographer” September 1009 Situated in the tree overhanging my balcony. The night prowler … from the Koala invasion series ... and this includes home invasion!!! Not break and enter as front door was open. I am calling the series … The Koala Caper / My belief is that this expression is one of smugness!! A “you dont know what I have been up to and got away with look”. / While this is a more formal shot, the remainder of shots in “The Koala Caper” are not!!! Nikon D90 Nikkor Lens 18-105mm with flash / F/ 4.8 / 1/60 49.00 focal length / ISO 800 0.00 compensation / Matrix metering / /
