  • Pencil drawing of a deer. This was just a peice of work that I was doddling one day at work. The final result is what you see.

  • Dozer, my boyfriend’s Labrador Retriever, just being a happy boy… ready to play fetch with his favorite toy, the tennis ball. =)

  • Pit bulls, America’s favorite hero dog. The pit bull was so respected in the early 1900’s that the military chose an image of a dignified pit bull to represent the country on WWI propaganda posters. The pit bull is the only breed to have graced the cover of Life Magazine three times. Famous pit bulls include Petey from The Little Rascals, Grunt from the 1983 movie Flashdance, Tige from Buster Brown shoe advertisements, the dog in the film Snatch is a pit bull, Jennifer Lopez used a pit bull in the music video “I’m Glad”, Veronica Mars from the UPN show of the same name owns a pit bull named Backup. Helen Keller had a pit bull as a family pet. Dakota is a pit bull search and rescue who searched for the remains of the astronauts who lost their lives in explosion of the space shuttle Columbia. Popsicle, who received his name after police found him in a freezer during a drug raid, is famous for sniffing out drugs for the DEA. A pit bull rescued in South Los Angeles by County Fire Station 14 during 1985 was the station’s mascot for years. Pit bulls get a bad rap because of irresponsible owners.

  • Bailey (left) is a Golden Retriever/Husky mix with a splash of Great Pyrenees or Newfoundland thrown in. He’s nine years old and has been doing harness work since he was a pup of six months old. Bailey is most certainly our lead dog. He can find his way home from pretty much anywhere on the command “go home”. Bailey understands more words in the English Language than most kids do at age 3. He can answer yes and no questions if he understands the question. (If he doesn’t he will SAY “I don’t know”.) He knows his left from his right, and on top of that can detect high and low blood sugars in our diabetic son. (He saved our son’s life the day he was diagnosed diabetic). His only flaw appears to be that he would prefer it if most people and almost ALL other dogs simply leave him alone. Normally, it would be impossible to keep such a dog, but we’ve learned what works for Bailey and once saved someone’s life..really, what more in loyalty can you ask for from a dog. It was tough thing to ask him to train another. However, we think he sort of likes having the help now. It was a testy couple of months though after our big pup came to live with us. Bailey revolted a bit and kind of rejected human contact for awhile. He didn’t like any of us very much. But, in the last couple of months that seems to have gone to the backburner as Mieko has learned “the ropes” of carting this summer. Bailey has learned that having “the wheel” helps in many ways when pulling. Since Mieko has proven he can work, Bailey seems impressed enough to allow him to exist. (Bailey refuses to give that Mieko is literally twice his size !) Mieko (right) is two years old and barely fully grown at about 140lbs. He’s enormous! We think we have his breeds narrowed down to Akita Inu, Rhodesian Ridgeback and Karnelian Beardog. He’s pretty new to being a sled dog, but is learning to be a pretty good “wheel” dog. Bailey is training him pretty well, and he’s learning faster than we expected him to. He’s had a rough start. He came to us a half starved and under-sized pup of about 10mo. old last summer. Though Mieko has had some delays, he can pull like crazy once he gets warmed up! Mieko is capable of pulling huge amounts of weight. If we can get him trained up enough, eventually we would like to enter him in some weight pulling contests. He is by far the SWEETEST dog we have ever met. He’s quite the cuddle bug for one his size :) They pull a hand built kick sled and a hand built three wheeled flat-bed cart…and pretty much anything else that isn’t nailed down if we tie them to it.

  • The Alter Real horses are Portuguese and closely related to the Lusitano breed. During the day, large herds stay freely outside pasturing in the abundant green fields of the “Coudelaria de Alter”, the place where they are grown, in the Alentejo region of Portugal.

  • I am a student in a high school digital art class. The purpose for making this project was to learn how to use the lay mask with the paint brush and the gradient tools. This is a Photoshop project using different animals to combine them into one animal. I was not inspired nor influenced by any artist that i have seen. I created this art because it was mandatory for the class.
