  • My coworker’s young Australian Shepard taken on 12/19/06. Her father is also a “blue Merle” and her mother is a Black Tri, the perfect makings for excellent stock. We call her Punz for short; she will be ready to breed in the Spring of 2008; I can only imagine how gorgeous her pups will be. I don’t take many pet photographs but, on seeing the outcome of this shot, that may change.

  • As Is Canon EOS 350D Canon Lens 34mm 1/60 sec F/4,5 ISO-400 / Sushi is a six week old Maine Coon Kitten of the Cattery Kata-Nebari, The Netherlands, Europe / The Maine Coon is a breed of domestic cat well known for its distinctive physical appearance. It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, specifically native to the state of Maine, where it is the official State Cat. Although the Maine Coon’s exact origins and date of introduction to the United States are unknown, many theories have been proposed. The breed was popular in cat shows in the late 1800s, but its existence became threatened when long-haired breeds from overseas were introduced in the early 20th century. The Maine Coon has since made a comeback and is now the second most popular cat breed in the world, according to the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA). The Maine Coon is generally noted for its large bone structure, its rectangular body shape, and a long, flowing coat. The breed can be seen in a variety of colors and are known for their intelligence and gentle personalities. Health problems, such as feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and hip dysplasia, are seen in the breed, but testing is available to detect the genes responsible for causing these abnormalities. / Source Wikipedia / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Portrait of Sushi / / / Featured in Cats and Dogs, Alphabet Soup, Domestic and Pedigree Cats

  • Boxers are an incredibly graceful and very independent breed, very willing to work, but unwilling to be ordered around. Friedrun Stockmann, a German breeder whose work with boxers helped to make the breed what it is today, described the Boxer as “a gentleman amongst dogs with short coats. He not only wants the best food, he wants to be handled in a civilized manner, too.” The Boxer is not, and was never meant to be, an “attack dog”. However, lack of aggression does not equal lack of protection. Boxers are natural guard dogs, and the first breed ever to be used as Service Dogs in the US. They partner people who are blind, deaf, lame, in wheelchairs, etc. Not one of them has ever been successfully mugged. Not one of them has had their home successfully broken into when their Boxer Service Dog has been present. These dogs know when things aren’t right and they will act accordingly. A typical Boxer is a gentle creature without aggressive tendencies and a one-dog home-entertainment center. He is a quick learner, though he is just as quick to unlearn any task for which he does not see a reason. He is easy-care, intelligent, athletic, and faithful; a trustworthy pet for an active family … As Matthew Cowley said in his article ‘Canine Clowns’: A boxer is “a laugh a minute, lives life to the fullest, a maximum velocity version of canine slapstick.” What more could an dog lover ask for? • A Doxie and a Golden – Two of a kind! Golden Retrievers are without any doubt smart and loyal dogs. But the Dachshund is a good dog too, smart and fast, and a comedy show on its own. The ‘Wiener’ is an early warning system. The Golden only barks when necessary and is good for ‘effect’ when you consider intruders…big bark and big presence. It takes a special person to own a doxie. This Barking Sausage is very stubborn and an independent thinker, and a little difficult to housebreak. Goldens are good at paying attention and learn quickly. ‘Hot dogs’ do not care that they are small. Waldi (that’s the German nickname for dachshund) acts like a big dog in a small body, keeps up with the big dogs and will usually be the “boss”. Golden Retrievers want nothing more than our love. They are all about pleasing their family and know our every mood. Dackel, (that’s how the Dachshund is usually called in Germany) are playful, curious, and bold, but they prefer older, considerate children who respect their dog’s space and privacy. Golden’s are the best dog for kids of all ages. gentle, reliable and trustworthy, yet protective. Doxies ‘think’ that they can rule the world and have a great heart. Golden’s have a great heart and ‘know’ that they can rule the world. The Dachshund and the Golden Retriever are both very good dogs, and to own both of them is a lot of fun. Just make sure you have a good vacuum cleaner! Thank you for being a friend /

  • Photograph taken with Sony Cybershot early this morning – 20 May 2009. Other than cropping for redbubble the picture is as ‘real’ as it gets, ‘untouched’ and ‘as is’. The metal man had arrived and was reinforcing Alkatraz aka ‘The Den’ as my pooches have become little Houdini’s amongst other things. The sound of the drill scared them and they came to me for protection – being the evil mother that I am I left them sitting and tried to catch the moment. To get all six in one place and not chewing, fighting, digging or eating was simply beautiful. The smallest of the three boys – short haired with very big feet! The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund (“Butchers Dog”), is a “medium to large size, stalwart dog” breed originating in Germany as a herding dog. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Rottweilers also worked as draught dogs, pulling carts to carry meat and other products to market. “Rottweiler breeders aim at a dog of abundant strength, black coated with clearly defined rich tan markings, whose powerful appearance does not lack nobility and which is exceptionally well suited to being a companion, service and working dog.” The Rottweiler was kept busy in these traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railroads replaced droving for getting livestock to market. Although there are still Rottweilers working stock all over the world, many other roles have been found for this versatile breed. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put into service in various roles including as messenger, draught and guard dogs. Currently they are often used as search and rescue, assistance, guide dogs for the blind, guard and police dogs in addition to their traditional roles. Although an extremely versatile breed used in recent times for many other purposes, the Rottweiler is first and foremost one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of herding breeds. A multi-faceted herding and stock protection dog of exceptional ability, it is capable of working all kinds of livestock under a wide variety of conditions. The breed is an ancient one, whose history stretches back to the Roman Empire. In those times, the legions traveled with their meat on the hoof and required the assistance of working dogs to herd the cattle. One route the army traveled was through Württemberg and on to the small market town of Rottweil. The principal ancestors of the first Rottweilers during this time was supposed to be the Roman droving dog, local dogs the army met on its travels, and dogs with molosser appearance coming from England and The Netherlands. This region eventually became an important cattle area, and the descendants of the Roman cattle dogs proved their worth in both driving and protecting the cattle from robbers and wild animals. However, by the end of the 19th century as railroads became the main method for moving stock to market, the breed had declined so much that in 1900 there was only one female to be found in the town of Rottweil. • Well since we last looked in on Lil’ Bit… he had made a trip to Best Friends Haven For Animals…started going through training to become a house dog and not a wild aggressive little Taco dog! / All was going well and then the little rascal decided to follow his nose one day and disappeared into the desert for over 5 hours. He was gone in a blink of an eye and no way could a person find this foxy little guy…especially in 110 degree heat…needless to say it was a tense 5 hours and we just had to hope for the best… They told us at Best Friends that it would be hard to break this habit of ranging out, following his nose and neutering was of the utmost priority. It had become a survival instinct even if he had a full bowl of food. He had pretty much gone “Native” during the months he had survived in the wilds of the desert…a huge challenge on our part to take this habit in check. / The very next day he was scheduled to have the neuter opperation..my husband says that he ran away on purpose…wanted to keep his little bag a jewels…LOL!! Well… he did return but upon very careful inspection…standing back and out of range of his huge teeth…it appeared that he had been mauled by a really big animal or a Hawk had tried to pick him up and carry him away. There were 5-6 puncture wounds across his lower back, hips and thighs. / It was going to be impossible to tend to him..he was in a heightened state of aggression and badly wounded. So fast forward to today…he has survived (how I don’t know) as he would allow no one to get close to him for the last three weeks…I would set food down and back away and he would eat every last bit…was drinking water and we would see him maybe twice a day come out from under this huge storage chest in our garage. No signs of rabies and no signs of infection …once again it is truly a miracle this little dog has survived yet another monumental life and death event. He does come in the house now…he still stays well away from myself and my husband…but I will catch him like this capture…from under his blanket just staring at me… / Lil’ Bit and I had became very close…he sat in my lap most every day while I was either at my drawing board or computer. / He his SLOWLY coming around…the pain of what happend to him must have been horrific…I could only offer soothing words and all the water and food (with ground up baby aspirin) he could eat… / Thanks for taking the time to read…send some good thoughts to Lil’Bit…

  • Lipica stud farm is the only unified, intact medieval farm estate in our country. The breeding of karst horses and the Lipizzaner breed started more intensively after 1580, when the Habsburg Archduke Charles bought the older estate of the bishop of Trieste. The foundation of the Lipizzaner breed is the indigenous Karst horse, refined with Spanish, Napolitan and Arabian horses. A fast and teachable horse was bred for the needs of the court, military and the Spanish Riding School. The karstic conditions, stony area and north “bora” wind were especially suitable for developing stamina and resilience in the horses and were therefore chosen intentionally. The stallions are normally darker, and with age the horses take on their characteristic white colour. In Lipica there are six basic bloodlines of stallions: Conversano, Favory, Maestozo, Neapolitano, Pluto, Siglavy, and more than a dozen bloodlines of mares.
