  • From Bayon, one of the many Khmer temples at Cambodias Angkor, dating back to the 13th century. Theres some 200 or so of these faces at this temple. It’s believed the faces are of the king Jayavarman VII, incarnate as the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. Regardless, it’s a moving, eerie place, where serene, smiling faces are watching you at every angle.

  • Another from Cambodias Bayon temple in Angkor. I’d like to know what people think, I feel there’s probably a few different ways this could be represented.

  • Angkor Wat at sunrise, Cambodia / Colour digital image

  • This giant cotton silk tree has tried to reclaim a portion of the ruins of the Ta Prohm Temple in Cambodia. This is quite a well known tourist site, and is especially popular after a portion of the Tomb Raider movie was shot here. I hope you enjoy the effect I have created in the image. PS I also have a portrait version of this image available as well if anyone is considering making a purchase. I prefer this crop, but please let me know if you want to look and I can upload it for you. Cheers / Steve

  • Bayon Temple, Angkor Thom, Cambodia Built in the late 12th century or early 13th century as the official state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the centre of Jayavarman’s capital, Angkor Thom. Following Jayavarman’s death, it was modified and augmented by later Hindu and Theravada Buddhist kings in accordance with their own religious preferences. (Thanks to Wikipedia). Here you see a Buddhist monk surveying the temple ruins. Six hundred years ago a similar monk may have stood here surveying the newly built temple. Nikon D70, AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G ED

  • The ancient buddhist temple of Ta Prohm, east of Angkor Thom, Cambodia. This amazing structure was built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries in the Bayon style. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor’s most popular temples with visitors (thanks Wikipedia). This temple was used as a location for filming of the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. The tree in this shot is, I believe, a silk-cotton tree (Ceiba Pentandra). Please correct me if I’m wrong! That’s me centre-field. I set up the shot then got my wife, Carol, to click the shutter.

  • Angkor Wat in Cambodia is a magical place. Although I had to get up very very early to shoot this, it was worth every minute. It is always inconvenient to carry a tripod when backpacking but scenes like this remind you how important it is to bring one along.

  • What to me still stands as the living empire of Cambodia , the Angkor Wat complex is a trully magical world.

  • Roots of trees have overtaken a number of the structures of the Ta Phrom Temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Cross-processed.

  • Angkor Wat bathed in warm light not long before sundown. Crowds gather and mill about to watch the last rays of sunshine transform the giant temple. Siem Reap, Cambodia. Thank you to all who stop by to have a look, it’s much appreciated, as are your comments! Copyright © Lesley Williamson 2009
