Amur leopard snarling. Captive animal. / / Amur leopard, only 33 are left in the wild, more precious than its weight in 24 karat gold! / / The AMUR leopard is rarely found in cold or high-elevation environments and is best known in its more familiar home in the savannas of Africa, where populations are relatively stable. However, in the northernmost part of its range, a rare subspecies of this cat lives in the temperate forests and harsh winters of the Russian Far East. This is the Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis), also known as the Far East leopard, the Manchurian leopard or the Korean leopard. IUCN’s 2000 Red List of Threatened Species classifies the subspecies as Critically Endangered, and the CITES has listed it on Appendix I. In 1998, the Russian government adopted a strategy for the conservation of the Amur leopard. WWF is supporting anti-poaching activities in the Barsovy wildlife refuge, as well within the whole leopard habitat in the Russian Far East. The organization is also implementing programmes to stop the traffic in Amur leopard parts and to increase the population of prey ungulate (hoofed) species in the leopard’s habitat. WWF staff are also monitoring the leopard population and its habitat. The Amur leopard has some very distinguishing features. The hairs of its summer pelt are 2.5 cm long but in winter they are replaced by 7 cm long ones. Apart from its long winter coat, the Amur leopard is easily told apart from other leopard subspecies by its widely spaced rosettes with thick borders. It also has longer legs, probably an adaptation for walking through snow. The Amur leopard is habitually nocturnal and solitary. Nimble-footed and strong, it carries and hides unfinished kills so that they are not taken by other predators. Adult males: 32-48 kg, exceptionally large males weigh up to 75 kg. Females: 25-43 kg. Light colour in the winter, more reddish-yellow in the summer. Major habitat type: Temperate Broadleaf and Mixed Forests / Range States: Russia, China, probably North Korea Geographical Location: South of the Far East-Primorskii region (Russian Far East), Tzilin, Heilundzyan Provinces (Northern China). Ecological Region: Russian Far East Temperate Forests Interesting Fact: The Amur leopard has been reported to leap more than 6 m horizontally and more than 3 m vertically. 2009 Acrylic on Canvas 36×36” / Years ago as I was going through a nasty divorce and fighting depression, working, creating artwork and trying to run a business all at the same time…...I encountered this old lady very humble looking, but as she approached me I felt a peace a calmness , come over me. She took my hand this perfect stranger and embraced me and kissed my right cheek. I not knowing who she was …....was dumb founded with the peace that came over me.Then she placed this beautiful little angel metal around my neck. It was attached by an old leather string,......She then said to me I was sent to help you. / Don’t remove this image from your person as you will need it, and kissed me again. There were only 3 people there, as I turned to thank her she was gone…..there was nowhere for her to go yet she was gone and the other people didn’t even see her….Strange. / The next day I was hit and run over by a car driven by no less then my soon to be ex-wife in front of the hospital where my son was working part-time he was still in high school I had come to pick him up from his job. / She not only hit me with her car but dragged me about 20 yards to the end of the driveway. / As I was rushed into emergency which was right there …..and bleeding from my face, arm and chest, I felt this strange peace come over me and as I was rushed into xray room and xrayed to see the extent of my injuries, the doctor rushed in with xrays in his hand and a puzzled look on his face and said there is no injuries that I can see no broken bones, nothing that I can see how do you feel? I felt great with this fantastic peace about me…..and the bleeding had stopped. / I only had a scrape on left side of my face and a long scraped along my left arm. (the lady had kissed me on my right cheek)My pants and shirt had been ripped off me almost completely and the xray technician and nurse took the rest off me. There I was almost naked and my pants had burned black tire marks on them everyone was amazed that I was not injured even the 4 witnesses that saw me get run over…..strange / However on the xray an image of an angel metal on my chest that couldn’t be explained, as they had removed my watch (which was broken) and my wedding band….I never put it back on …..and I realized then that the marriage was over…...after being separated for 6 months and 20 years of marriage. It hit me hard…...harder then being run over. / I was never able to explain or find that angel metal that was around my neck for one day and one night…... / So you see there are Angels that look after us!

Angels Weep…For the Children There’s a disturbing culture of violence sweeping our schools, resulting in trauma, maiming and even death…..we shed tears and burn with anger and while we search for answers…..more lives are lost and the angels weep. Children are de-sensitized by being drip-fed a steady diet of blood, gore and violence through games and the media yet we have a Not Safe button on the human body…what kind of message does this send?...the human body is something to be abhorred, ashamed of? / Kindergarten was once a place for children to learn social skills, re-enforce discipline and respect for others , develop their imagination and prepare them emotionally for school, now it’s a place of learning, they’re pushed into growing up too quickly. No surprise they’re angry when they can’t keep up..! / . / Recently a 6 year old took a knife to school…now where would a 6 year old learn problem solving involved using a knife!
