Psalm 30:5 is such a comforting verse, a reminder that grief has its season and then changes to gentler times. I would like to dedicate this to Bianca Thomas who lost her beloved husband. May you be comforted by the angels and strengthened as you grieve.

This is one of my own personal mandalas, created on board in gouache and coloured pencil, with metallic overlays. The four quadrants symbolise the passing of the seasons and of my life. The angel represents my heart; the dragon my courage; the unicorn my passion/creativity; the castle my soul. The four phases of the moon are in the vine and leaf border. The 5 pointed star at the heart of this mandala symbolises my connection with the spiritual and the divine.

In ancient times and in the Middle Ages, a sanctuary served as asylum, a place of refuge for persons fleeing from violence or from the penalties of the law. To injure a person in sanctuary or to remove him from it forcibly was considered sacrilege. In Egypt the temples of Osiris and Amon offered the right of sanctuary. Under the Greeks all temples enjoyed this privilege, and certain ones, like the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, were known throughout the Mediterranean world as a haven for fugitives. In Rome fugitive slaves often sought sanctuary. Christian churches were given the right of sanctuary by Constantine I. Abuses of sanctuary, tending to encourage crime, led to its curtailment and abolition. Modern penal codes no longer recognize the right of sanctuary.

Christmas is all about love, let’s spread the joy of giving by giving :) The characters look familiar? Yes, they are developed from my “dessertelia choir” which was actually the birthday gift I designed for my sis, “Amelia”. I’d very much like the idea of keeping ”...elia” as the suffix in the names of these characters. : : :

The people that live in this house go so all out for Christmas that they decorate their ENTIRE home, including the front, back & side yards, EVERY room inside, closets, hallways, kitchen, foyer, patio, swimming pool, roof, & even the garage door & driveway! There are at least 250-300 trees each decorated with a different theme &/or style! Lights upon lights upon lights upon lights! Every possible Xmas decoration you could imagine & then so many more that you hadn’t! They open their house to anyone & everyone to come inside for a free tour and they greet you in elf costumes! They do accept donations as their electric bills go through the roof during this time but they do not ever ask or hint around or even imply that you should at all. There’s a donation box located at the begining of the tour that’s it & it really doesn’t stand out much especially in comparison to the rest of the place! We’ve been going for about 3 years now & we tell anybody & everybody we can about it & where it’s at so they can go too. It really is an amazing display much more so than I can ever even describe. These people are truly beautiful people & they obviously love to spread joy to those all around them. Oh I forgot ~ they do have a very small room that has some small souvenirs you can purchase but no real big supplies of anything & a few different flavors of candy canes maybe. But that room doesn’t have any lights or props whatsoever to grab your attention like the rest of the house does. I can’t say what their motives are for doing this every year for total strangers who may or may not give a little bit for letting them come into their home but from what I’ve seen it’s not for the profit. Bless their very generous hearts!

FIRST OF SUMMER / By Dale Crum / I created this as an invocation piece of this the summer of 2009…may it be a Great time to form Wonderful Memories that we all will treasure for the rest of our lives. / Joy is not controlled by outside forces…it is a choice…and while the economy is messed up… we can… and should choose to seek happiness in those things that really matter… and not in those fleeting things that cost money. Perhaps humanity is about to be reminded… / Of what is real in this life…and that which we just do…not…need. *This piece has more layers than any other work I have done to date…I lost count after about 18!!! / I used only my own original photos.
