Photographic based digital montage 2007 (1 from series of 6 – redesigned from 2004/5 Japanese Series) My favourite one from the series. I shot the tree, flowers, roses, birds, combined them in P/S with drawn elements & filtered the lot. Approximately 50 Photoshop layers.

This is my entry for the Photoshop Creative competition / Digital Mixed Media. Mostly done in Photoshop CS2. A touch of Corel Painter and Apophysis 2.0. This image is composed of digital painting, a few fractals, and several photographs added for texture. I hope you all like it because I’ve been working on it for most of this week :). / This is the first I’ve completed in a new series: The Elijah Series. This image represents the chariot of fire. You can read about it here: 2 Kings 2:7-12. There is so much going on in this image so I’ll help you out: The Chariot driven by some sort of Angelic being is in the center of the image while the horses of fire are at the bottom, very front of the image. The blazing light of Heaven is in the very back. Basically, the sky has opened up and the Chariot of Fire is coming down from Heaven to separate Elisha and Elijah. The whirlwind that takes Elijah up into Heaven will be the next image I do in this series. Thank you for looking!

The eye perceives light it only when it is mixed with darkness. Light itself is invisible yet our eyes see nothing without it. Light actualizes the form within being. When the single reality of pure light falls upon physical realities, they become visible, manifesting an endless array of color and dimension, a garden of rich and varied hue. Many spiritual paths teach that what unfolds in the surrounding world and within the realm of personal experience is not a black and white drawing with clearly defined endings and beginnings, no matter how obvious it may first appear. Life is far more interesting than that for every happening unfurls a shifting spectrum of color and interpretation. Its always up to us whether to aacpet and flow with something as it is happening, and looking no deepr than the surface, or to plumb deeper for multiple levels of meaning and wisdom. Its always a toss up, and there’s no right or wrong answer in these choices. This painting speaks of embracing the mixture of light and dark in life, the kaleidoscopic unification of the opposites that is life. Intergrating and balancing is the way to healing and wholeness. / Text and image copyright Helena Nelson Reed

Image by photographer Glennis Siverson, www.glennisphotos.com. Photo was featured on the RB home page on 6/12/08. “I will not wish thee riches, nor the glow of greatness, but that wherever thou go some weary heart shall gladden at thy smile, or shadowed life know sunshine for a while. And so thy path shall be a track of light, like angels’ footsteps passing through the night.” / Words on a Church Wall in Upwaltham, England (I got this quote from talented RB artist Marny Barnes.)

Gallery 1 / Gallery 2 / Gallery 3 / Gallery 4 / Gallery 5 / Gallery 6 / Watch my tears Hi Friends i have been away for days now , i was working on some new art works , here is one that i love alot , hope you enjoy it like i Do. / this work means alot to me.missed you all. please see it in large view for details. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / Linaji wrote this great poem for this Art work , Thank you very much Lina you did it again . / please visit Linaji for more of her work. With love, I Forgive / Your love / And your lies / Balled up like wax / Dripping down the side of my fingers / Burning / Pain, / Heat / Tears / Dissolving a fragile string of kindness which has / Muddled and hardened with time Story after story goes thru my mind, / Till I am spent and drained at my own efficient ability / To fill in scenes I only think you might have played / A part in. / Uncovering again and again the deceit and the pain / That one morning you did bring. Long before I swore.. / Never again. / But the rabid dogs of Goodbye / I did unleash / Ready for your remains / To become festered with my own / Pain / My own despair. My eyes steel cold and grey / Pools of ice and determined / Chill. / That morning / When you lead me down the / Corridor of your will. Words diminished to / Graffiti sighs / And lovers’ cries. And now I am faced with / Time that has passed and the / Decorum of modern man / Spiritual leanings / And friends that remind me / I have a place in their hearts too. / Was Love all about you? The ending is near for all this / That was. / For all this that was. And now, / I paint and I create and I feel and I close / My eyes / A figure of light appears, / Dressed in royal colors / Dressed in abstract designs from a place beyond this one. / He takes my heart from my chest / And squeezes it hard / And like the wax of your love and your lies / It drips down the side of his fingers. / His lips are full and his smile is large. / He licks my blood and gives me the same. I only taste what I feel is Eternity and Peace. / And then, / He puts it back tenderly and instantly, / He is gone. / I am left with a thought that I repeat and use as my / Mantra, / My beacon back to Hope and Life. ‘With Love, I forgive’.

My new wolf friend seemed to like having his pictures taken – he stared “up close and personal” right into the lens. I believe it is only fitting to donate the proceeds of the sale of this image to a park that more than 200 wolves call home! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Algonquin Park

I had an opportunity that I clearly used to my advantage…...while up at Lake Nora over the weekend, a dragonfly in distress and nearly dead happened my way; he spent the good part of an hour letting me photograph him before he gathered up enough strength and then flew off, only to land about 10 feet from me, but out in the water…........I made a wish for him and I know his spirit is watching over all the others as they diligently go about their designated tasks…...I had a very good feeling though as if he was put right there in front of me for this reason…......I got quite a few shots of his entirety, but I enjoy this one more…........ / / ______ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. The bridge reminds me of an emotion of solitude, which is not to be confused with loneliness. The former leads to an internal peace and being one with nature and oneself while the latter was a feeling of being forced to be alone, deprived of freedom and choice. I used to call this photo “Peaceful Bridge” until a young patient of mine (at the time she was nine years old) explored the difference between solitude and loneliness. When the image was presented to him as an illustration, he exclaimed, “Oh, solitude is peace, inner peace!” And the true title of the piece was born. Soaring to a celestial kingdom, Heaven cries for all of those who will never open their eyes, never see love, never know true happiness…. Heaven’s Cry took 7 hours, which is about 3 hours longer than my average amount of time on a piece of work….the wings alone took 3 hours….pencil on bristol board, i am very happy with the results….

Based on the following lines from a poem I wrote: / “For through the stillness of forest trees… floats to earth the remnants of angels’ wings”. The feather is a painting (deliberately made to look torn), the rest was created in Photoshop. /

My eyes do not see them / My ears will not hear them. / My hands cannot touch them / and they slip through my memory like dreams upon waking. Yet in my soul, I hear the rush of wind through silken wings, / and I feel the elusive touch of something soft upon my face, / tracing the lines of my being….beckoning me…. My heart sees beyond and brings back to me the infinite grace of their presence and I am re-minded again of love. / They are the beauty and compassion that even the blind can see. / They are the song of life that even the deaf can hear. / They are the ones who silently observe us / in the mirror of time / waiting for us / to remember who they are, / and reaching through the veil of human limitations, / to finally remember, / who we truly are.

I’m really glad I was able to complete this image. It’s one I’ve been working on for quite some time now and almost scrapped it a number of times. I actually made the decision to trash this and I’d begun working on a new piece but I couldn’t move on until this one was finished. So I went back to it and all of a sudden it just started working for me seemingly out of nowhere. It’s ironic that the decision to scrap the work was all I needed to fuse my brain into making it work. art plays little tricks on me sometimes. :)

The doe took a little time off from busy eating for the photo opportunity, although she didn’t want to give up the tasty colorful leaf. By now everyone who has ever seen my work knows that I’m absolutely “addicted” to develop a deep relationship and establish an intimate communication with mule deer (we don’t have a lot of white-tailed deer around here). Everyday I go out there in the early mornings, hoping to have a close encounter! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada
