As I spend much time living with the Kambari tride, I get to know first hand the challanges they face each day just to survive. I also have the privilege of capturing not only hunger, sickness and often death, but the more happy occassions. This is Grace, and when I first met Grace in April 2007, she was suffering from Chronic Malnutrition. This was taken in December 2007, and the differnce is wonderful. We as a Charity depend on People like yourself, who donate time in Prayer and Finance to help us provide help and support for Grace and many others like her. I thank you all so much for your help. And now, / I paint and I create and I feel and I close / My eyes / A figure of light appears, / Dressed in royal colors / Dressed in abstract designs from a place beyond this one. / He takes my heart from my chest / And squeezes it hard / And like the wax of your love and your lies / It drips down the side of his fingers. / His lips are full and his smile is large. / He licks my blood and gives me the same. I only taste what I feel is Eternity and Peace. / And then, / He puts it back tenderly and instantly, / He is gone. / I am left with a thought that I repeat and use as my / Mantra, / My beacon back to Hope and Life. ‘With Love, I forgive’.

A term in high school….to be “Johnny Angel-ed” was a kultural term for “unrequited love” We would go and get drunk on some parents brandy and sing Johnny Angel to the poor victim over and over…until it drove them insane and they got over it. Umm the song goes something like “Johnny Angel how I love him, he’s got something that I can’t resist, but he doesn’t even know that I exist” .....But that my friends….is history ;) We were rockers ;)

The bridge reminds me of an emotion of solitude, which is not to be confused with loneliness. The former leads to an internal peace and being one with nature and oneself while the latter was a feeling of being forced to be alone, deprived of freedom and choice. I used to call this photo “Peaceful Bridge” until a young patient of mine (at the time she was nine years old) explored the difference between solitude and loneliness. When the image was presented to him as an illustration, he exclaimed, “Oh, solitude is peace, inner peace!” And the true title of the piece was born. Soaring to a celestial kingdom, Heaven cries for all of those who will never open their eyes, never see love, never know true happiness…. Heaven’s Cry took 7 hours, which is about 3 hours longer than my average amount of time on a piece of work….the wings alone took 3 hours….pencil on bristol board, i am very happy with the results….

The doe took a little time off from busy eating for the photo opportunity, although she didn’t want to give up the tasty colorful leaf. By now everyone who has ever seen my work knows that I’m absolutely “addicted” to develop a deep relationship and establish an intimate communication with mule deer (we don’t have a lot of white-tailed deer around here).
