Taken on a dreary day in a small cemetery… Please also view Face of a Mourning Angel (shown below) to get the full effect of the images’ perspective… Images above are examples of sympathy cards.
Even when / you shouldn’t or / you couldn’t—wouldn’t you / still remember the one time when / it made you younger / and carefree. / When silverwinged angels / still supped on your words?
The angel is holding an upside down torch, symbolizing a life extinguished. More cemetery art can be seen at my web-site in the gallery. www.timelessphotovideo.com
A dead cows earns its wings..
I can’t believe a psychiatrist bought this for his waiting room… I’m a bit perplexed; although I can see that it has some soothing qualities that was not really my intention.

Fear no more the heat o’ the sun Fear no more the heat o’ the sun, / Nor the furious winter’s rages; / Thou thy worldly task hast done, / Home art gone, and ta’en thy wages; / Golden lads and girls all must, / As chimney-sweepers, come to dust. Fear no more the frown o’ the great; / Thou art past the tyrant’s stroke: / Care no more to clothe and eat; / To thee the reed is as the oak: / The sceptre, learning, physic, must / All follow this, and come to dust. Fear no more the lightning-flash, / Nor the all-dreaded thunder-stone; / Fear not slander, censure rash; / Thou hast finished joy and moan; / All lovers young, all lovers must / Consign to thee, and come to dust. No exorciser harm thee! / Nor no witchcraft charm thee! / Ghost unlaid forbear thee! / Nothing ill come near thee! / Quiet consummation have; / And renownéd be thy grave! —William Shakespeare
REGRET
Taken at the Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
We all lose someone we love, be them human or animal, today we hold a candle to their memory. I read an old card / sent many years ago / during a time of turmoil and confusion. / The soothing words written then / still caress my spirit / and bring me peace. I remember who you used to be / the laughter we shared / and wonder what you have become. / Where are you now, / Where did you go, / When the body is left behind / and the spirit is released to fly? Perhaps you are the morning bird / singing joyfully at sunrise, / or the butterfly that dances / so carelessly on the breeze / or the rainbow of colors / that brightens a stormy sky / or the fingers of afternoon mist / delicately reaching over the mountains / or the final few rays of the setting sun / lighting up the skies / edging the clouds with a magical glow. I miss your being / but I feel your presence, / In whatever form you choose to take, / however you now choose to be. Your spirit has become for me / a guardian angel on high / guiding, advising, and watching over me. I remember you. / You are with me / and I am not afraid.
Ulysses S. Grant, Jr. (1852-1929): The son of President Ulysses S. Grant came to the San Diego area in 1893 for his wife’s health. He was active in real estate and promoting the San Diego area. He built the U.S. Grant Hotel as a memorial to his father. The bronze Angel of Death is the work of Henry Lukeman, a prominent eastern sculptor who had studied with Daniel Chester French (Sculptor of the Lincoln figure in the Lincoln Memorial). The stone was cast in 1911. Henry Lukeman later worked on the Stone Mountain Memorial in Georgia. /
The leafs begin to leave the trees,
In becoming the person we want to be sometimes we leave behind the things thought weak. This man decides he is not deserving of the light, and walk through all, he thought he lost or killed the light and beg for it’s return but he believed he was undeserving of this anyway….but winds and leaves surround him and him a journey to his light, how will he react? Hope yous like this peace… ; )

Sculpted in 1923 by Herman Matzen, the Angel of Death Victorious is the most famous marker in the Lake View Cemetery. The six foot, 1500 pound bronze angel sits on his massive granite throne at the gravesite of Francis Haserot, hands folded atop an upside down torch. The torch is said to signify the exthinguishing of life. The years have streaked his bronze skin and caused tears of discolored metal to stream from his blank eyes. Some say the angel is crying for those whose lives he’s extinguished.
