  • Day #301 of my 365 Days project – a self-portrait a day for a year.

  • Inspired by the theme of “opposites”, I was aiming at creating an abstract representation of the theme in how androgyny plays a big role in both society and fashion. This was also inspired by a few songs that have the theme of androgyny in them.

  • man and woman?, man and man?, woman and woman? Touch me. Image taken from my painting: acrylic on canvas. 1050mm x 800mm

  • Image taken from my painting: acrylic on canvas. 900mm x 800mm

  • This was an exercise in vibrant colour and texture. Within I explored the theme of androgyny.

  • My husband.

  • This was a colored pencil drawing I did, in a series of humans that represent certain animals. My figures tend to be androgynous when representing the spiritual element of an animal or plant, so their gender is unidentified, but I’d like to think this one is female. / The concept was to draw characteristics from the animal and apply them to the portrait. Another piece in this series is Salamandsandstorm. / Colored Pencil on Pink construction paper – 8”x12”.

  • This was nearly impossible to photograph without a shine. It irritates me how the lack of light in this house affects the quality of my work. I began sketching a face, and then decided halfway through to make this a two-toned work. I really enjoy the way Hindu art is very radial in design in the background, so I decided the circle was a good compliment to the busy-ness of the middle of the piece. / I enjoyed the contrast of cool and warm. It’s always fun to play with. / 8”x10” Colored Pencil on Yellow Construction Paper

  • This self portrait is painted using acrylic on canvas with gel pens. I have included gelpens, not only to give a greater aesthetic appeal but also to include a feminine influence which disrupts the traditionally masculine orientated world of painting. This piece shows a traditionally masculine object (the pipe) and combines it with my hand, which looks like a lady’s hand with the nail varnish. The overall impression of the piece is meant to be highly androgynous.

  • This is an acrylic on calico piece, The three pieces ‘Disinfectant’, ‘Disinfect Me’ and this piece are a set and were produced primarily as therapy, in order to combat my living arrangements with an ex girlfriend. These pieces are about reasserting control and understanding of situations. The hand shown is my hand. I have attempted to make the work sexually and gender ambiguous. The nail varnish may indicate that a woman is touching the inner thigh, however it is my own hand. This painting is a moment of extreme joy, yet it is a moment afterall and the moment has become insignificant.

  • This is one of my more recent pieces, it centres around the gender war. Hopefully it looks quite androgynous. Shaving is an activity that men generally do on the face. I just thought it would be interesting to include my beestung lips and my nail varnished fingers. It was produced using acrylic paint and gel pens

  • Beautiful Androgyny Silver – Lady Hannah Cadaver Each Cadaver World t-shirt is designed so the colour of the t-shirt influences the final look. It is strongly encouraged that the buyer view the design of choice in various colours using the “view larger” function.

  • This sparked off my curiousity and interest in androgyny and gender theory. The idea of combining male and female physical traits really appealed to me.

  • music This is a collage of individual photos my friends and I took for another mate’s birthday present. This was originally 4 photos which were a creative gift of friendship. I wanted to take it one step further. Individually, the 3 friends in this photo and myself are very different. 2 male, 2 female, 2 coloured, 2 white, 2 full blooded, 2 half blooded, 2 older, 2 younger, 2 single, 2 in relationships. Perfectly divided in half, matching on some levels, opposing on others. Remind me again, how are we so different? Imagine a world where we are not governed by what society think of us, where media is not god, where prejudice is laughable, where division is not the main focus of our time and a place where people can live, not exist. Idealistic? Maybe.. but nice to consider. Featured in Core [C.O.R.E] / Featured in Put Out Or Get Out Canon SX100IS Edited 9pm Original photo in negative, layered sections cut from other portraits of 3 friends on top, added colour filter to each slice, contrast increase, added texture to finish.
