UNTOUCHED PICTURE / I went to the lake very early in the morning ,it was pretty cold but it was worth it ,it looks like the trees were in fire.Oh! This was one of those freak photos, straight off my camera, the only thing i changed was the white balance and the original was in color!!!... i walked straight past this spot on the walking track and my friend pulled me up!!! Spider webs were every where, there was late afternoon fog that had nt lifted, sun was perfect, dead trees, it was all there!! 30 mins later when we walked past, the sun was too low and the fog had lifted and the web could hardly be seen!!! freaky…......right place…......right time…....hahahaha…

In July 2007 I did my first ever snow shoe walk from Falls Creek out past Pretty Valley to Tawonga Huts and the Niggerheads then over Mt Fainter and down to Bogong Village. The downhills aren’t as fun as my crossies but the uphill and flats are a dream much easier manoeuvrability for photography too. Great trip had some good weather (the following day was a whiteout). Love the way f22 on my fisheye lens creates this sunburst effect, doesn’t work very well with a dark foreground but with this highly reflective snow it’s a winner. Just after I completed this trip I got a phone call from someone who had heard about an exhibition I did earlier in the year and who had specifically wanted a picture of the Victorian Alps, they ended up buying a 12”x30” framed print of this one. “A Moment of Silence” Looking East From Picture Lake Into North Cascades National Park, Washington. The day I went up to Picture Lake to take this photo, it was extremely windy. I thought my day was wasted as I really wanted to capture the reflections of Mount Shuksan. When I got my camera set up for the shoot, the wind subsided and the resulting picture was taken. When I finished the shoot, the wind started up again and the reflections disappeared. During my travels in six states in the past week, I finally landed in Durbin West Virginia, where I stayed with a friend of mine. This old coal steam engine depot is in her little historical town of Durbin. We finally got a chance to ride this train that soon will be reaching it’s centinial (100th) birthday in 2010. This engine is called The Durbin Rocket One of three coal steam engines actually running in the world. When we came to a short stop, I took advantage of shooting this (and yes, have quite a few shots while riding it) Something about the elderly gentleman looking at this engine remembering when he was a boy and rode trains like this enticed me to shoot it in black and white. This has not be converted, I changed settings on camera to shoot in BW, I will be adding more photos of my travels after I return from Texas this weekend. This was shot in SS priority, F-stop of 8.0, Exposure at 1/125, ISO of 400, Exposure Compensation at 0 / Best if viewed larger.

the leadbeater,s possum is a rare possum that lives in hollows in old trees like the mountain ash the trees take more than 150 years for suitable hollows to develop if fire or LOGGING are too frequent the old trees are killed .the young trees in this photo are stunning but offer no suitable habitat for hollow dependent species. tha black spur.

The lupine in parts of Grand Teton National Park are quite extraordinary at just the right time of year. This little pond is ephemeral, and is the perfect mirror for sunrise over the Tetons. My greeting when I visited a Masai village alone. They were wonderful people, I will never forget them. / The light was very intense, and highlighted the vivid colours of their colourful costumes. Many of them still observe the old customs and maintain the traditional way of life. I love rainy, overcast, windy days. Someone has to, I suppose. The pink/purple of the fireweed has yet to reach its full splendor. As Alaskan legend has it, when fireweed blooms all the way to the top of its spire – the six-week countdown to winter begins. Some of us can hardly wait. It felt great to get out in the elements! It is a very old site, once occupied by a small temple dedicated to the worship of the Fates, as recorded in the rare 3rd century epigraph (walled under the northern portico of the castle). Its original religious function was soon replaced by a military function, given its strategic position. In the 13th century the castle passed from the hands of the lords of Toblino into those of the lords of Campo, who owned the castle bearing the same name in the Giudicarie (Castel Campo). Later on, the castle fell into the hands of the church of Trento (1495) and the Cardinal Bernardo Clesio had the place restored and rebuilt (1536-1537) on Renaissance lines, to become a lord´s residence: it was decorated by some of the artists working at the Magno Palazzo of the Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento. The prevailing 16th century elements are due to the subsequent transformations (courtyard portico and loggia, round arches) ordered by Gian Gaudenzio Madruzzo. All that remains of the Medieval castle layout are the wall to the west, a turret to the north-west of the present enclosure and the 20 meter high cylindrical tower, which may be considered a keep, strengthening the fortifications closing the summit of the fortified rock. Lake of Toblino This valley bottom lake has marsh vegetation (in particular ) and lacustrine (a few samples of “lamineto” of the ninfea gialla type); At certain points of the shore there are willow groves. The beautiful Isle of Skye. / Typical Scottish Highland weather, bursts of sunlight, lasting for three minutes if you are lucky, between heavy showers that soak you to the skin, lasting around five hours. Or more. LOL ! / You don’t have to be mad to live here, but it helps, as the saying goes ! A magic place all the same ! / Have you ever tried to set up a tripod where the heather and bog myrtle grow in abundance, teetering on the brink of a raging burn? (Burn = river) It ain’t easy ! / It causes you endless grief, for one thing, the blasted tripod wobbles around, and it disturbs those dear wee midges, which bite you to the brink of insanity, then you have a wee puppy craving attention threatening to knock the tripod/camera/you into the burn, and I can’t swim either. / Combined with Family members watching your attempts and laughing then getting bored, it is a small wonder that any images get produced at all. Professional ?? Ha Ha Ha Ha !! / Hysterical laughter ! Shot on my CANON EOS 40D, mounted, sort of, on my tripod, polarising filter, f22, 1/4 sec, 17-85mm IS Canon lens, at 22mm, iso100, auto wb, three shot RAW files processed in Photomatix, then fiddled around with in PS CS3, with some more selective tone mapping applied. LAB colour to finish. / Slight vignette.
