Hi all as you know I have a wonderful bond with two special female artist’s here in my city that I have painted with, exhibited with laughed with, and even cried with….On this night though we were laughing and loving being together…..felt so right and so good… Kym Nic and Anna…hugs xoxo Anna Bartlett and Nic Hohn, both have bubble sites and even though they have not been as active as I on here they are both fantastic artist’s in their own right….I had the good fortune to catch up with them both at the Grammar art show opening on Friday night, where much to their delight they both sold two pieces, which is great for opening night…. We then caught up on Saturday for a bit at the gallery Anna owns, which we used to open every Sunday leading up to Christmas, due to changes in our lives, this no longer happens, however this Sunday gone I open up for a few hours and was lucky to get payment for a painting that had been on layby for some time…So all in all it was a good weekend for the three of us on many levels….. I would love you to take a look at Anna’s site….or at least the paintings I have here, I will get to feature my darling Nic later this week…. till then love to all…P.S Anna does the best hand painted art bags ever….I will be sporting one when I come down to Sydney so keep an eye out…this girl has a big future….Move over Ken Done…AB is on her way….

It’s cold here in Wellington. Not the best weekend but a good one to catch up on some of my unfinished drawings. I suddenly feel a need to share my art, but I haven’t been very discipline. I try to quickly sketch down ideas, ideas that seem to be materializing less and less frequent lately. I wonder what’s happening… I wonder if I’ve lost it. Lately I seem to do more think than creating. Putting myself through this process of filtering through the bad ones and when I’ve decided to take some of my sketches to the canvas, I convince myself it’s probably not worth painting. This new and foreign thought process, I am beginning to think what I do at work is being brought through into my art. The tedious and rigourous design and architectural decisions have finally taken a toll on my art life. I used to know how to separate them well. In fact I used to find one challenges the other and bring out the better. One professional and discipline, the other whimsical and free… I have been asking myself why am I painting, how is my work any different from the rest, don’t we have enough beautiful artworks around already. If so, is it wrong to clutter the world with more paintings that are just ‘beautiful’? How have I truly make a difference then?..... and this goes on…and on… and then before I know it, I’ve lost the need to paint. ANYway, since I have no new paintings for now due to my little personal conflict, I thought I’d just share some of my doodles instead. Sometimes I think they bring across more of an essence than a finished piece of work. Most of them are done during boredom, waiting for bus, insomia nights, waiting for computer to load at work, between TV commercials… This one was done on an insomnia night. Pen,pencils, ink, colourpencils I think. Maybe I’m changing. Maybe the old me doesn’t fit anymore. I feel somewhat lost really.

I was asked recently by my good friend Rick Gustafson / to explain to him some of the thoughts, feelings and symbolism behind Geisha Girl which i did for him. He was very pleased with my explaination and felt it should be part of the writing to accompany the image. I have placed it in my journal as i don’t wish to offend anyone with the slightly sexual content. Geisha Girl. The girl is sat in a low lit room she is surrounded and bathed entirely by darkness. Black for me if you remember from The Secret Garden is a symbol of deeper darker desires and sensual passions that cannot be seen but are known only in the inner self. The fact that she is surrounded by blackness is symbolic of her inner deeper desires coming to the surface and surrounding her totally until they are all she can see before her. The cloth is also black and wrapped around her, overflowing her, surrounding her, taking over the pure white skin symbolic of purity and innocence. She is seated in a submissive position with her arms raised and crossed arms, open hands all figurative of submission and vulnerability, surrender, waiting, embracing, passion, yearning and anticipation of the deeper darker desires that are closing in. But she wants it, she eagerly desires it, anticipates it and wants to embrace it…….she is waiting for it to overwhelm her to take away the responsibility and to overpower her. How she yearns….deeply, deeply yearns, how she waits for its arrival, the long awaited long desired consummation. Her hair is not pinned up, it is free, symbolizing she is not inhibited in anyway. She lifts her hair as a further act of submission to reveal the whiteness of her skin to the viewer…..to the darkness, to the one who waits in the shadows to possess her. She is willing, ready and waiting but she must wait for him but he will only step out of the shadows when he is ready, when he decides and she must be patient. She yearns for his control, she feels safe with him. She trusts him that he will love her and treat her correctly and always with respect and she in turn will obey him. Her neck is a place where life flows through her veins she is offering to him her self and her life. It is also her erogenous zone; she is inviting him to step forward and to kiss her in this intimate place, to embrace her sexuality……to mark her as his. Her shape is feminine, full of curves and inviting, she is unclothed revealing her nakedness, her readiness – nothing hidden away which shows her genuineness and honesty. She longs to allow her deeper darker desires to overtake her and yield to his touch but she sits patiently waiting. She must wait. The ribbon. The ribbon has special meaning. It is again black – the symbol for deeper darker desires and passion. It is tied around her neck and hangs loose down her back. She desires no necklace to adorn her neck, no jewels, no material gain…no she desires something even greater, something more precious that what this world can offer. The ribbon is around her neck where it can be picked up and held by the one in the shadows and she can be lead voluntarily to the place of passion and consummation. It is her collar. It is her symbol of ownership and of being owned. She loves her collar and the one who owns her. Her collar is her visible sign of her submissiveness for her and to her owner. She can touch and feel the representation of the one who owns her anytime she feels vunerable or alone and know he is there in the shadows, he will look after her. But she must wait. The collar forms a circle and when placed around the submissive’s neck is akin to a ring, the symbol of belonging, love and devotion. In order to receive her collar the submissive must first raise her arms above her head and cross them. In Geisha Girl she is waiting…..the ribbon is a merely a symbol of her long awaited collar.

As you may have noticed, I have not been around much. Please, tell me you noticed? I’ll cry,otherwise! Anyway …. For those of you who do not know, my daughter was having problems with her husband. So, she decided to take her daughter and go and visit her father for a while, think over the marriage and give him time to do the same. He insisted that she leave their daughter with him, because he said he was afraid that she wouldn’t come back, otherwise. So, that’s what she did. Shortly after she left, he got arrested. His mother had the baby at that point. Which was alright, ostensibly, since Morgan gave her $200, actually a little more, to help take care of said baby. They were all living together. Her mother-in-law then tricked her son into signing away his rights to his daughter (told him it was temporary, but the papers say permanent guardianship), called my daughter and tried to force her to agree to do the same – and when she refused to sign any such papers, threatened her with CPS waiting at the house to have her arrested and told her she is not allowed to come back to Arizona until she is 18. Well, this delayed my daughter in returning, as some research needed to be done, regarding if CPS, indeed, was doing any such thing. They were not. She came home and tried to get her daughter. The first time we went to the trailer, the Sheriff’s deputy told us that the m-in-l already had full legal custody of the baby. that she had papers signed by a judge. So, we looked up the records online and saw that there were guardianship papers filed, of some sort. Took us a while to prepare a response, go to the courthouse, and there we found out she had lied off her ass to the Sheriff’s Deputy. She had no right to refuse to let my daughter have her child, at that point – and she wouldn’t even let her see her daughter! We asked! Anyway, to make a long story short, despite the fact that all my daughter did was pay someone who lived in the house, and who was family, to help the father of the child watch her, and went to visit her dad, CPS has taken custody of her daughter, due to the allegations that she has abused and abandoned her daughter. They are taking the word of a woman who was arrested for custodial interference before, when she tried to steal another granddaughter from a different son. They are also misquoting a report I made that was about that woman and her sons, and my fears for my granddaughter and my daughter, and saying, in court, that I am the one that made a report that my daughter abused her daughter. So, at this point, if my daughter does not find a suitable home, a job, attend parenting classes, and a whole lot else, within 6 months, and that includes participating in visitation with her daughter, all parental rights will be severed. Pretty harsh penalty for visiting your dad, huh? Well, CPS is supposed to be referring her to services. They were told that she lives in Tucson – that her name was still on the lease to the address that the m-i-l lives at. Despite that, they opened the investigation out here, not in there. Then, when we tried to tell them about the m-i-l and her past history, they said “We are not here to discuss her, we are here to discuss you” to my daughter. So, the m-i-l told them things about my daughter, but, they are not willing to listen to WHY she is acting that way – even though she was arrested for trying to steal a grandchild before, even though she stole her children from their fathers (who had legal custody) before, even though there is no discernible record of her children going to school, and even though she is on SSD for something and yet she can MOVE, so it must be mental. They don’t care – they don’t want to hear it. They want to give this mentally ill, child abusing woman, her granddaughter to adopt. My daughter now has more like 4 months to get things done. They have not referred her to anything. In fact, the other day they called and told us they were trying to get a hold of us – despite the fact that they had two phone numbers and physical addresses by which to do so, and someone was home at both of them, the entire time! – and now that they finally did, they needed an address in Tucson, so the case could get transferred to Tucson. I gave them my sister’s address and phone number, again. They told me they already had it, though they lied and said we gave them the wrong space number before. My sister is the one that told me they are lying about it, because they called her to verify it, the FIRST time it was given to them. In other words, they are purposely dicking around, because my daughter is the one who has the 6 month time limit, not them. If she gets nothing done, she loses her baby, even if it is their fault because they never referred her to services when they know she hasn’t the money to pay for them. So, there you have it. I’ve been busy trying to find agencies that will help a 17 year old get parenting classes, rental assistance, counseling, etc. without any money. I may have finally gotten a few leads of places that will help. I need to check into them later this morning (it is 3:27 am right now). My parents are buying a 4-plex, if they can get it, so that my daughter can have that home CPS demands. That is, it won’t all be for her, but, it is cheaper to make a house payment than to make rent, and, besides, apartment managers do not rent to 17 year olds, despite their having been emancipated by marriage. So, for her to have a home, there is very little option, otherwise. If they get it, I’ll be moving in to the 4-plex, too, and probably, so will my sister. If they don’t get it, we’ll try for the duplex that has the single family rental behind it. I would prefer the 4-plex in that it is conveniently located, i think. However, I would prefer the duplex in that I would not have to live in the same apartment as my sister. Mind you, I love her, but, I do not want to live in the same apartment with her, if I can help it. As she, herself, said: I would like to live near family, but, not with them! Lately, we have been cleaning the pieces out of the house, because an appraiser needs to come and look at it and decide if it would make good collateral. It’s all been a big ball of crazy, brought on by another liar who wants someone else’s children; much like my own divorce. It is weird to be on the same side as my Ex, and to be in agreement, and everything. Neither one of us wants our daughter to go through what we did, or what I did, especially; and, neither one of us wants to go through it, again! That is the shortened (honestly) tale of why I have not been around much. Now, on to the features. Gloria Yellow Inversion :was featured in Yellow Gallery 19 days ago Thank you, Yellow Gallery! Slice of Ordinary Me was featured in Finks of Ink 4 days ago. Wow! I think this is now my most featured piece. Well, I think it already was my most featured piece, but, now, even more so. I’m both humbled and amazed, especially as this was a hands on thing. Digital is great, but, canvas, paint, marker, etc. is all about you, and nothing about the programmer. Well, unless you are speaking religiously! I have had a little spell from my artwork. Over the past couple of weeks or so I have been doing some quick expressive work, which I have enjoyed very much this morning and last night I started a signature ‘Lisadee’ piece that started out so basic. It will take some time to complete and I intend to do it in the ‘Taller Bigger Brighter’ feel or like ‘Lovely Lucia’. There has also been an absence of text for my work for quite a while which people always said was as important as the illustration, this new one has some text..at times drawing these little figures – I find it quite emotive, when I wrote the few lines of text there was a small wave of emotion, perhaps that is why I create these. Also I am very excited to be sharing a new type of art work I am currently developing…stay tuned. You can see it at my up coming installation at Bundoora Homestead as of December 17th 2009.
