Yachts anchored in Bunbury Harbour. / South West of Western Australia. / Has been slightly watercolored.
This is a little SC of an eyelet, whilst looking along the Bow from the Bowsprit of the “James Craig”. / The anchor with the chain and all the rivet’s, gives a feeling of cold hard steel. But in actual fact, when on the “James Craig”, this ship has a feeling of warmth and beauty.. / . / To see the whole collection so far of this series / click here! / Also / Click here! if you want to see more and to be able to read about her history. / ( photomatix & photoImpact ) ==================

In the harbor in the small town of Point Arena on Northern California’s rugged coast there is a wonderful little restaurant and a few small shops. We found this old anchor leaned up against the steps that lead up to the shops. If it could talk it would no doubt talk with wonder and awe about the sailors who sailed the Pacific and the amazing places it had visited and the fateful day that it ended up here at rest in the harbor of Point Arena. Taken with my Canon Rebel XSi with a 55-250mm lens. 50% of what I receive from sales will be donated to help military families/children during the holidays…so spend large and lets help them out!
There’s a new memorial in Depoe Bay. It’s an old anchor — possibly Russian, perhaps from a sailing ship — that captured the fertile imagination of a man named Richard Taunton. It came into his possession when he was working on the American I, on the north side of Unimak Island in the Aleutians. It was pulled up from the bottom with the fishing nets, and because it was Richard’s turn among the crew, he got to take it home to Depoe Bay. After Richard died suddenly in January 2006, his family struggled to find a proper memorial for a man who loved history, trivia and his hometown traditions like the Fleet of Flowers. “Many times, Richard scheduled his vacation so that he could be home for the Fleet of Flowers week,” said his brother, Phil. “Memorial Day was a good time for him.” The Taunton‘s — his mother Betty, as well as brothers Phil, Craig and Neil, and sister Nancy Pierce — chose to donate Richard’s treasure from the bottom of the sea, and to inscribe it with a quote from the explorer Magellan. The City of Depoe Bay, with help from the Depoe Bay Chamber of Commerce, has installed the memorial next to the Whale Watching Center on the sea wall. If you come to this city by the sea for its annual Fleet of Flowers, take a moment to think of Richard Taunton — a community anchor if there ever was one.
