Piece Five in my HSC body of work. The series in total is called “Ascendancy” which means domination or influincing figure, but also has connotations to the ascention of Mary in Christianity. Basically what i tried to do was to show how humanity’s expression of faith has changed, evolved, or even stayed the same. “The Annointment” refers to Mary Magdelane’s annointment of the body of Christ. Compressed Charcoal on Paper I would like to thank the wonderful photographer who allowed me to use his brilliant photographs as references throughout the series: mehmet turgut . Piece six in my HSC body of work. The series in total is called “Ascendancy” which means domination or influincing figure, but also has connotations to the ascention of Mary in Christianity. Basically what i tried to do was to show how humanity’s expression of faith has changed, evolved, or even stayed the same. “The Resurrection” is basically how we would express the resurrection of Christ today – more physically, more as an escape or rejoicement. Compressed Charcoal on Paper / size: approx. 110×75 cms I would like to thank the wonderful photographer who allowed me to use his brilliant photographs as references throughout the series: mehmet turgut . After having so much fun with the last piece, I decided to try a series of em. I have an idea, but won’t let it out until I’m sure it will work =D This piece is focused on the ability to open up. Being vulnerable to the outside without fear or worry. My creative juices have been flowing since that week of downtime and in a way my mind has opened a little more for me to see inside and to let you see a little deeper. Only in this state of vulnerability can I truly be free, and without limitation on what I do or how I go about doing it.
For the past week or so I have been in a real deep funk. Won’t go as far as saying depressed but overwhelmed by the feeling of unhappiness. I sketched this out last night about midnight and felt that it was worth throwing up here. I wanted to capture how I’ve been feeling and this happened to pop out. No preconceived idea of what I was aiming for and was at the will of my subconscious. As you see in the image, I am gripping onto one of the only things that make me happy, and no matter how hard I squeeze, it still feels like it is slipping away. What IT is, is not important, because it can be anything that brings you any kind of joy. And as you see, without that happiness and that “constant”, I am nothing. Along with my happiness I myself begin to slip away into the darkness, hoping to meet my happiness at the bottom.
Studio shot using 2 point continuous lighting. Be careful what you wish for, you might end up exposed.
So this is what we look like when sliced open in the middle. An old anatomical drawing for anatomy lovers to enjoy!
“Leslie” / Charcoal on paper / original size 85×60cm
Yay, proportions, ratios and lots of other Da Vinci flavoured words. It’s a very neatly designed car, if you think about it.
Arches paper full sheet. graphite pencil, coloured pencil and digital collage / (H) 70cm x (W) 47 cm
A reimagined piece from “awakening” and my final painting for the upcoming art show. Not really sure the size of the cabinet door but if you could have only seen how stressed I was trying to come up with a color scheme for this one. Take a step into my mind and see what meaning this conjured up: With everything that has surrounded me in the past couple months, the stress of class, unknown depression, and just the inability to be happy, the one thing that has kept me breathing is my love, but more importantly the love given to me which has kept my body warm. I don’t think I need to spell it out to ya now with my color choices. So…um…enjoy

Had the urge to do something impulsive after spending most of the evening working on Tomorrow so I whipped this up using a bunch of different style brushes. Wanted to get a good mix of colour and shape without using the correct ingredients (eg the arm being made up of various views of a spine). I got a thing for grungy stuff at the moment so this was fun to do.
Hand-drawn heart. Molecule is sucrose … sweetheart! Featured in Back in Black!
paper on pencil drawings – seven postcard sized pieces framed together I started out wanting to draw this face I found, but there was so much to comment on at that time of my life that I decided to divide her up into little segments where I could further editorialize. So I did that. Then I put this away. For a year or so. On a stormy night, I added the top layer of drawings. I had bought myself this giant wonking “Anatomy for the Artist” when I was 18. It sat on my shelf all that time. It was expensive! I never used it – until that night. I referred to it to make the layers you see added. Then I put this away. For a year or so. On yet another stormy summer night, I pulled it out again. I cut the drawing into seven pieces that you see here and started erasing parts of the original images and added swirls and embellishments. The piece is framed as one – they float on a piece of dark suede. Here I gathered them to show you. (Oh, I think this piece is about the cycles of life and how one must ultimately surrender to them – again, my obvious title!) This piece with some of my other drawings were shown in last year’s “Nothing Is Black & White” exhibition in New York.
I wanted to do something with TV show logos, so I found most of the typefaces and re-created each of them. And then I put them in a sentence.
