We wanted to send man to the moon. / We did. We wanted to supply man with a / way to communicate through fiber optics. / We did that too. But what happens when the / human counterpart is so reliant on technology, / that it forgets to…be human? Numbers, dates, / appointments all stored in a portable database. / Families forget to interact with each other because / they all have a human counterpart that they can connect / with. Patience is a thing of the past because anything / they want is at their fingertips. Ideas are unoriginal / because they have all been thought of before; typed, dated, / and logged. Welcome to the Butterfly Effect. / Welcome to our world. / / / Hand painted (mouse painted..heh.) digital oil / (taken from my own eye) / Corel Paint Shop Pro/Corel Painter X/Apophysis / This is my first hand painted digital oil. / Challenge Cafe Entry / / / Special thanks to Helene Kippert Paul Tupman and Stacylee for your influences. ;) / / / Runner up in the Challenge Cafe Contest / Thanks to all who voted on it!

You’ll see from the graphic that I’m generally implying the sorry fact that in the future our neurons will be so filled with war, hatred, dis-ease, fear, greed, vanity, and vapid, banal nonsense that our super skinny bodies will have one short arm to hold our brain-tumour inducing mobiles up to our rotten Apple infested heads, while our eyes bleed having never spent one second away from a flickering screen, our chest cavities will be stuffed with money since interest rates have plummeted so low that keeping cash in a bank devalues it, all the while wielding a shotgun to protect ourselves from everyone else who are all exactly like us. It looks like this in my head when I close my eyes at night.

Not sure if I’m finished with this one yet, I’d like to add more but I also like the simplicity and white space, would look great as a card as is. Will also be making this one available on a tee asap too. / Pen and pencil drawing. / ZOOM IN for detail.

Sprawled Traintrack – Dissecting Your Imagination…. a few titles came to mind. Combining illustration and photography to push an idea to the extreme. Really happy with the way the light works off the jeans. I was actually trvelling through Italy at the time and in all the supermarkets were heaps of raw meat, slami, proscuitto etc on display, so I wanted to do a tongue in cheek combination of my environment at the time, thus combined a not so realsitic salami shot I took in a supermarket witht the body and traintracks. Lots of fun!

Or Why I hate my computer engineering job / A work in progress. Perhaps nothing encapsulates who we are better than the Soul of ~~. This statement of our values, beliefs and aspirations is at the heart of what makes us a great company. At the core of The Soul of ~~ are the members of our team who everyday, throughout the world, demonstrate our commitment to Customers, the ~~ team, Direct Relationships, Global Citizenship and Winning. Just an interesting effect I got by holding my thumb over the flash, PS’d a bit to make it look a bit more colourful. Copyright © 2008 Simon Deevy. Piece Two in my HSC body of Work. The series in total is called “Ascendancy” which means domination or influincing figure, but also has connotations to the ascention of Mary in Christianity. Basically what i tried to do was to show how humanity’s expression of faith has changed, evolved, or even stayed the same. “The Temptation” refers to the temptation of Christ by the devil (40 nights in the desert, etc) Compressed Charcoal on Paper / size: approx. 80×40 cms I would like to thank the wonderful photographer who allowed me to use his brilliant photographs as references throughout the series: mehmet turgut . His page on DeviantART is (http://mehmeturgut.deviantart.com/) and the link to the particular photo for this piece is (http://mehmeturgut.deviantart.com/art/gravity-part-2b-26768855)

As a once psychology major, I was intrigued by Freud’s theory on the id and ego of the human psyche. It has been many years since those classes so my words may be somewhat off. But this piece is a self representation (aren’t they all?) of myself and how the “id” and “ego” play in our life decisions. We all seek pleasure and that constant feeling of euphoria, and our “id”’s only goal is to achieve those feelings without worry or care about the consequences of such actions. It is our “ego” that keeps the “id” in line, allowing us to think before we act, and to be able to foresee what may come of this pleasure seeking. It is a constant battle that wages on beneath our skin and sometimes the “id” overcomes. Some choose to live only by the “id”s bidding and never realize the destruction they leave behind when seeking their pleasures. I have been through that lifestyle once, and as much as I enjoyed such pleasures in bountiful amounts….the aftershock of those actions can still be felt today.

Here is everything I’ve learned in my graphic design course so far. Almost everything… The tricky part is my resources have been disagreeing about what names lend themselves to what letters. Ears, for example, occur only on the lowercase g, but are also found on r, f and a, depending on what the climate is like. Feel free to argue about this in a string of entertaining comments! Also, if I’ve spelled anything worng, or if you know any better than I do, please let me know and I will look into fixing it. / PS: this is also an experiment in horizontal halftone! However I’ve cheated and used original image at 30% transparency as a kind of bolster… any thoughts on the output??
