Stories to live is a collection of Short Stories by Amy Hempel. These stories are great, and you should read them at your earliest convenience, if you’re in to that kind of thing. My only fear is that this under-done parody of a book review might dissuade you from taking the recommendation seriously.

Have you received this email? Please forward this on! Subject: 7 yr old with Cancer (this child is local) / Hi, my name is Amy Bruce. I am 7 years old, and I have a large tumor / on my brain and severe lung cancer. The doctors say I will die soon if / this isn’t fixed, and my family can’t pay the bills. “The Make A Wish / Foundation” has agreed to donate 7 cents for every time this message / is sent on. For those of you who send this along, I thank you so much. But for those who don’t send it, I will still pray for you. Please, if / you are a kind person, have a heart. Please, please, PLEASE HIT THE / FORWARD BUTTON. Amy Bruce I received this from a friend who no doubt sent it with all good intentions; being of a more suspicious nature, I checked it out and it appears to be just a stupid fraud. There are numerous debunkings of the cancer child email to be found on the net. Here’s one and here’s another. I have advised people in the past when they’ve fallen for a con like this and it’s most intriguing that I am made to feel like the bad guy for doing it. Some people would rather enjoy that warm inner glow even when it’s completely baseless and has done nobody any good – well, that’s homo sap for you.

I am designing one or two t-shirts and a print the profits of which (all artist mark up – should there be any) I would like to devolve entirely in a charity, specifically a project realized by the Rotary Club, St. Angelo, Italy called AMIS DU SENEGAL (Friends of Senegal ) which has been provinding various kinds of aid to several small villages in a small area of Senagal. Over the past four years their projects have successfully concluded among other projects a tree growing project, supplies of hospital equipment and medicines in collaboration with the Senegal Ministry of Health and the building of a day school to house the children from surrounding villages. The t-shirts and prints I will design specifically with these people in mind and with a wish to give what little help I can to this admirable project. The funds raised will be utilised almost entirely directly for the project itself, the amministrative fees are mostly at the expense of the Rotary itself so the funds are almost entirely devolved in the assitance given to these extraordinary people. Check into my RedBubble soon to see what I come up with and maybe buy a t-shirt or a rpint for this admirable Rotarian project. Have a great day everyone / Rosa

Through an amazing series of circumstances, I secured tickets to V-Festival at Chelmsford. VIP ones, too, which meant free food and drinks and a better class of camping facilities. (I celebrated this by not drinking that much, not eating that much, and commuting to and from Chelmsford both days. It was all about the photos… I mean MUSIC. It was all about the music.) So here’s some photos! / Spearhead and Michael Franti. It’s nice to have a double act with an “and” between them, rather than the ubiquitous “Feat.” of Rap/RNB or ”’VS” which you occasionally get in Dance. / Beth Rowley. Sort of a cabaret style singer in one of the smaller stages – pity I couldn’t focus more closely and sharply on her without losing the nice colour of the background and dress. / Sugababes. How much street cred can I lose by saying I recognised most if not all their songs? Remember : I also have Eminem, Xzibit and The Game on my iPod. I’m STILL hardcore. / Alanis Morissette. She used to weigh less, but then I used to have more hair. Things change. And her performance of “Uninvited” from the City of Angels soundtrack was excellent. / Estelle. To be brutally honest, I don’t like her songs (especially ‘American Boy’) and I additionally mistook her for British singer Adele (the suffixes are the same!). But she was a pretty good performer and even cleared security to let a fan up on stage to dance with her. / Amy Macdonald. She’s Scottish, she’s 19 or something and I was certain I’d heard at least one of her songs before. Maybe. I still love how Scottish (or any-Accented) singers will sing in phonetically generic style, then speak in a voice that sounds like it’s drinking Guinness and ordering a haggis. You go, Amy! / Duffy. “Mercy” was a world-wide hit, even topping the Austrian charts. I missed hearing that, but I did get to hear ‘Rockferry’ which I think is just as good. And she won me over with her cheerful “How the F&&k y’all goin’?” between songs. / Futureheads. I think I’d heard of them before. And I think I still had most of my hearing left afterwards, so it was certainly a win-win. / Stereophonics were loud, too. But good. I took this from a distance. In the armaments industry you’d almost call it ‘minimum safe distance’ but I think from memory I wasn’t using an overly long zoom for this shot. / Bryn Christopher. No, I hadn’t heard of him either. But he had a good energy, and kind of a 1990s style of Pop. And a tie. He also had a tie. / The Crowd. They threw beer, they threw water, they (disturbingly) threw some liquid that was warm. They had national flags, they had pirate flags, and they even had two inflatable dolls doing things to each other that are kind of best kept private. It didn’t matter. My Pentax K10D is weather proof and unflappable and can withstand such things. / Sons of Albion. The name sounded familiar. The music wasn’t bad either! / Midway Station in the ‘Sessions Stage’. I do like the smaller stages and tents. It gets you closer to the artists. It also gets you closer to their powerful speakers. (I know that Mythbusters debunked the idea of a ‘brown note’ but to a certain extent I’m not so sure) / Aussie Singer Gabriella Cilmi (Woo!!) (‘Sweet About Me’ – not sure how big it was elsewhere, but I think it made the Austrian Top 10!). / ‘The Kooks’. Actually, it’s only one of them, so technically this could simply be a ‘Kook’. / The Rifles. I didn’t see any. The Hat I did, though / Clever. However, the person texting misread the male/female ratio of the crowd, and also the fact that many of the guys were standing next to their girlfriends. That said, the roar of approval was still more than audible. / Girls Aloud. They apparently cop a fair bit of flack given their pop styling credentials in a more rock/alternative festival like V. But every year they’re invited to play, the band come and play. And the ladies in the crowd seem to like their songs and the guys…. like them too. / Girls Aloud. Oh very well, another photo. For the music fans out there… / Lenny Kravitz. Best act of the Festival in my opinion. Then again, I hate queues and I sacriligously skipped the Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, The Verve and Kings of Leon. But Lenny rocked, rolled and either went over time because he’s too cool to stick to schedules or to cover the extra de-thawing time required by Amy Winehouse. Either way, props to the Man. / / My fave shot of the day was of Mr Kravitz, and it will soon hopefully be recycled and used again in my ongoing ‘one photo per day’ series. / Amy Winehouse And Sign. Heehee! It got even funnier when people in the line of sight of the sign started getting annoyed with having their view blocked by the sign. Then stuff started being thrown. / Amy Winehouse. She was lucky her backing singers were loud, and assembled crowds were willing to help her with any lyrics she couldn’t recall or felt disinclined to sing. Apparently the crowds at the Other site the previous day hadn’t been as forgiving. To give her credit, she performed a full set and stood upright under her own power, which couldn’t have been easy for her! / The Young Knives. They were in one of the smaller tents, but incredibly I’d heard of them, having walked past a local HMV the day their album was released. Pretty cool guys, they also dedicated their last song to Virgin Founder Richard Branson. Nice. / The Zutons. Apparently they’re big. Possibly, but the giant ‘Z’ behind them is even bigger. / Ah, the remorse. For me it was nearly 3000 photos taken pre-culling and a shower and a proper bed to sleep in each night after the festival. Perhaps I missed the point,... but perhaps documentarians can’t get too close? I’m David Attenborough, good night.

I would like to introduce to you a dear and great friend Amy Klein. Amy and I discovered each other at our local marina. I learned through casual conversation that she too loves photography. That might explain the camera round her neck most of the time. Since then, we have been to different areas in Holland, MI taking pics and have some great stories to tell… (like being locked in a private parking area where I had illegally parked my car. I won’t do that again.) She just recently joined our fun family here on RedBubble. Please welcome her and wander through her portfolio.

Hey Bubble Lovers, iv got an image of my self that i really really love, but i took the photo with my camera phone and its very dodgy!
