Farmer in the productive farmlands of Pennsylvania, taken on a back road around Intercourse, PA. Its a lovely place to wander around and see how productive you can be even without the modern tools of life. The Amish people’s way of life is a wonderful reminder of a simpler time. They are a kind and loving people, with forgiveness in their hearts.

Sunday morning in rural Pennsylvania. What a sight when all of these horse drawn buggies make their way to church. The ones that get there early, benefit from the covered parking. I love the buggy wheel trails leading onto the church grounds. Taken with Nikon D200 and Sigm 18-50mm f/2.8 lens.
This image was taken on an Amish farm where I buy my eggs. It was a very cold morning and I got the sense that the dogs were quite content to remain in their cozy boxes. I worked the image in Photoshop to create a more painterly feel.

Amish farm shrouded in early morning fog on a gloomy winter day. Just love that weeping willow, it just adds to the general feel of sadness, doesn’t it?

In my ramblings around the countryside here I am continually amazed at the things I find. A friend told me about an abandoned church building not too far from town. The other evening my wife and I decided to go in search of it. I was expecting to find an empty building, falling in, sitting back in the middle of the woods. Nope there she sat on a paved stretch of county road a just a few scant miles from town. The cemetery was well kept and the building was plainly visible on three sides. The church is complete with all the pews and a piano. The pulpit has fallen over as has the piano and half the pews are sinking into the earth from the floor rotting, due to the weather coming in through the un-repaired roof and broken window panes. I don’t know when this church was built but the oldest stones in the cemetery are from the late 1840’s. I have been told it was most probably an Amish, Mennonite or Reformed Friends (Quaker) church, as it has a partition down the center to divide the men from the women.
The scooter. An iconic image of, and still a common mode of transportation for the Amish people in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The farmlands of Pennsylvania are very productive. The Amish people forgo the use of modern equiptment, yet their farms are beautiful and bountiful. This picture was taken in the back roads of Amish Country PA (somewhere between Strasburg and Intercourse)
This shot was taken a few miles from the town of Blue Ball in the middle of Amish country in Pennsylvania. I watched the buggy travel along the road for miles ahead of me before I took the shot. There is a vastness in this country that is almost unbelievable. I had to zoom in to get this shot in my frame. This shot was taken over the weekend, Jan. 31, 2009 … the snow had a icy crust on top that shined bright. It snowed again all day yesterday, Feb. 3, 2009 and again this morning there was a city of ice out there. It is beautiful to look at … but perhaps not as much fun having to drive to work in it. Only fun when I can be taking pics of it … Come on, you all know the feeling! :) —Judi 2009

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania © Dyle Warren All rights reserved / Nikon D200 / Nikkor Lens 18-200mm The farmlands of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country are among the most productive in the nation. The farmers here are different from most Americans, they are the Old Order Amish and Mennonites, also known as the “Plain People”. / .

This is a covered bridge that I discovered along my ride through Amish country in Pennsylvania. There are many covered bridges in the state of Pennsylvania but I think this one is one of the most beautiful ones in a very nice setting. So come on through but don’t forget to hitch your buggies afterwards …. Another view: /
