On my first visit to Chile, we were the first passengers to sail the Kaweskar Route of the southern fjords on the Skorpios III. The weather was terrible most of the time (typical Patagonia n springtime) and the day before this, visibility was nil. Imagine our surprise when this day we woke up to this serene and magical sight. I think it is the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen – photos cannot do it justice.

Yosemite National Park – April 2008 Dragged myself out of bed at 7am with a raging temperature and flu in minus temps. Skated with tripod along an ice covered bridge to re-shoot this waterfall after a corrupt CF card, anything for a shot huh?? By far the most famous fictional ghost ship is The Flying Dutchman. The ship has become synonymous with the phenomenon so that “Flying Dutchman” is often used as a generic term for any apparition-type ghost ship. The term may also refer to a real ship that was reported to be seen – often as an apparition – after sinking, or to a ship found floating with no crewmembers on board. According to folklore, the Flying Dutchman is a ghost ship that can never go home, but must sail “the seven seas” forever. The Flying Dutchman is usually spotted from afar, sometimes glowing with ghostly light. If she is hailed by another ship, her crew will often try to send messages to land, to people long since dead. / Versions of the story are numerous. According to some, the story is originally Dutch, while others claim it is based on the English play The Flying Dutchman (1826) by Edward Fitzball and the novel The Phantom Ship (1837) by Frederick Marryat, later adapted into the Dutch story Het Vliegend Schip (The Flying Ship) by the Dutch clergyman A.H.C. Römer. Other versions include the opera by Richard Wagner (1841) and The Flying Dutchman on Tappan Sea by Washington Irving (1855).

Stopped off here for lunch after snorkelling all morning, after lunch we went off to find to the manatee. Needless to say I really didn’t want to leave! St. George’s Caye is an island in the Caribbean Sea, eight miles east of Belize City. It is part of the Belize District of Belize, Central America. As of 2000 St. George’s Caye had a permanent population of about 20 people. St. George’s Caye was previously known by the Spaniards as “Cayo Cosina”, or “Kitchen Cay”. It was settled as a town in 1650, and was the largest settlement in what was then British Honduras in the 17th century and 18th century; however, its importance was eventually eclipsed by the growth of Belize City. From 3 September through 10 September 1798, British settlers fought and defeated a small Spanish fleet sent to drive them from the area; this battle is marked as a national holiday in Belize each September 10th as The Battle of St. George’s Caye picture taken with Pentax Optio S4i – no special features Jan 2007

Multnomah Falls, Oregon, USA, Taken Summer Vacation 2007 Multnomah Falls is a waterfall on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, located east of Troutdale, between Corbett and Dodson, along the Historic Columbia River Highway. The falls drops in two major steps, split into an upper falls of 542 feet (165 m) and a lower falls of 69 feet (21 m), with a gradual 9 foot (3 m) drop in elevation between the two, so the total height of the waterfall is conventionally given as 620 feet (189 m). The trail continues to a platform at the top of the upper falls, the Larch Mountain Lookout, where visitors get a bird’s-eye view of the Columbia Gorge and also of “Little Multnomah”, a small cascade slightly upstream from the “upper” falls, which is not visible from ground level. I thought I might say a little bit about how we got these Ophelia shots. Missy is a VERY talented photographer friend of mine (to view her work, go http://missyjanek.deviantart.com/) and she has also modeled for me in the past. I thought she’d be great for this concept, so we started about 3pm yesterday. All was going well until she got in the pool and said “I don’t know how to swim!” So we struggled and propped her up with pool noodles and floaties and Adam even held her legs while she tried to stay afloat. I felt like she really was going to drown a couple of times! (We kept her in the shallow end, of course! and my dog was keeping watch as life guard.) For someone who had not really been in water before, I think she did a great job. :)

Nikon D80 / F9, 1/15, ISO100 The hike to Supai Village (Grand Canyon, AZ, USA) was 8 miles in the rain. Arriving after dusk, at this, Havasu Falls, the water was flowing chocolate. We were treated to many colors, with this being the picture 60 hours later. Rockhopper This species of penguin occurs in subantarctic waters of the western Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as around the southern coasts of South America. The Southern Rockhopper Penguin is classified as Vulnerable species by the IUCN. Its population has declined by about one-third in the last thirty years. Their common name refers to the fact that unlike many other penguins which negotiate obstacles by sliding on their bellies or by awkward climbing using their flipper-like wings as aid, Rockhoppers will try to jump over boulders and across cracks.

The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area in northeastern Pennsylvania boasts many beautiful streams and waterfalls. This stream, in the Childs Park Recreation Area above Fulmer Falls happened to catch my eye, captured in full springtime flow. Taken in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Pretty much a tourist snapshot of the Falls, which I thought I would share with you ! / A rather crowded place, justifiably so, who wouldn’t want to see this sight ? The Canyon has some amazing colours, and I found the best time was towards evening to be viewed at it’s best. The vertiginous slopes are very loose and crumbly, and I wondered how those trees maintain their perilous foothold !! Shot on a Canon EOS 40D, polariser, tripod, f22, 1/3 sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in PS CS3, levels/curves/selective colour adjustments.
