Curvy road in Arizona Desert.
Colorado is certainly known for it’s parks, and this one I happened upon out of the blue one day….it really is a majestic site, with these odd rock formations just jetting straight up from the earth, as if reaching for the sky. I was also lucky enough to capture the distant clouds as they were building for afternoon thunderstorms, later that day….spose you can say I like the sense of drama that they add to the image overall. / HDR processed, thoughts most welcomed! —-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. This image is part of Erin’s challange here / This is one of my favorite images because it brings back fond memories of my childhood. / When I grew up, I lived in a nice neighborhood, mostly composed of middle to upper middle class families. Just before my teen years, my family bought a farm. From that day forward, we were out on the farm hoeing blue grass, driving either our large tractor (case) or the smaller Ford, driving combine and driving truck. I could barely reach the pedals on most of the equipment (I had to sit way forward in the seat to drive the trucks). / This old Ford tractor was one I spent hundreds of hours on. Discing, plowing, mowing and cultivating among other things. I used to come back from the fields looking like one big dust ball. / That is why this image is so important to me. It helps relive some of my best (and worst) childhood memories.
Santa Marta, Colombia ! Walking along the beach, I had to improvise a bit without my tripod ! / Anyway this inconvenient gives me the chance sometimes to take pictures I wouldn’t probably take ! - Please alsp view… / / . / / .
Girls spinning on a whirling carnival ride during a mid summer’s night; from a series: Sunset on the Small Town Carnival. Owing to the rise of mega-parks and high liability insurance, small town carnivals are rapidly disappearing. Whenever possible I try to document these vanishing icons of the Twentieth Century American landscape. The original image was shot at 1/15th with a camera flash and 2 remote strobes. The long exposure shows motion and the flash freezes detail. I used opposing color filters on the remotes to get better depth in the subject. In post processing I used a combination of effects from both Illustrator and PhotoShop. The big trick was getting the file size down by rasterizing my AIs in PS and reopening them in AI and re-saving as a vector.

It was not long before dawn and there was an eerie silence around the lake. The lighting was changing by the minute and every photo had different qualities. I ended up choosing this one over the others to process because I really liked the reflection I got in it.
Soon after the sun rises and the alpenglow fades, the lighting evens out and gives more natural daytime colors. The wind dies down and gives better reflections and the wildlife comes out to greet the new day. I saw a couple of deer while photographing that morning. They were wandering across the lakeside on the right. The fishermen started coming out in numbers around this time and made things a little tough on me since I was set up right near the marina and had to wait wile boats passed through my viewfinder every few minutes. In the end though, it was a beautiful summer morning that I wish I could experience everyday.
The weather was really beautiful and ominous on that day. Everytime the sun would peek out I would drop everything and set up my tripod. This is Little Lakes Valley, Eastern Sierra, Ca and I’m still amazed that I live so close to someting so beautiful. This trail eventually ascends Morgan Pass and up into the alpine High Sierras. You can see them in the far background. Created from 2 exposures blended together.
This was taken in Little Lakes Valley, Eastern Sierras, Ca. I have submitted a few different photos from this hike and the lighting was just so intimate that I may just remember that day forever. This is the one furthest down the trail and closest to the mountains in the background. There are many meadows along the trail and they are usually very lush but by summer’s end they start to dry out like this. I thought it made for some nice contrast. You can see a little bit of the trail on the right leading into the pines.
This is a subpeak of Mount Morgan I guess, it’s unnamed. I was driving down a dirt road that leads into the canyon and the early morning shadows on this mountain just drew me in. I got out and took quite a few photos trying to capture it best. I think B&W works well with such a contrasty scene.
Box Lake can be found in Eastern Sierra Nevada, California. It is in an area known as Little Lakes Valley. It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen. This is an HDR image.

What I love about Summer is going to the beach and going thorugh the tideppools and looking at all the marine life. I love the starfish here in North America they are larger and come with the most beautiful white ripple pattern underneath a background of orange. This starfish was washed ashore on some rocks, after beening rescued we placed him back in a tidepool, to continue the circle of life. Photo taken California Crystal Cove USA. People take too many pills in this country. Some people need them to stay alive,... that’s one thing but a great deal of the others… and those side effects are horrifying! / I vote for National Healthcare, hope you do too!
