  • I love this photo for so many reasons. Here I was…a Buenos Aires tourist in the area of Palermo. I saw this elderly couple across the street and wanted to take their pic. Then…suddenly, a Buenos Aires bicyclist pops into my frame as I’m looking into the lens. He was delivering something and seemed to have passed the adress…so he stopped and started to back up. As he turned his head my way I spontaneously shot this one…and I love how it was so random and spontaneous. The wonders of photography when you’re at the right spot at the right time.

  • Rockhopper Penguin This species of penguin occurs in subantarctic waters of the western Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as around the southern coasts of South America. The Southern Rockhopper Penguin is classified as Vulnerable species by the IUCN. Its population has declined by about one-third in the last thirty years. Their common name refers to the fact that unlike many other penguins which negotiate obstacles by sliding on their bellies or by awkward climbing using their flipper-like wings as aid, Rockhoppers will try to jump over boulders and across cracks.

  • This image was taken in South America . Nikon 808, Velvia Fujichrome 50

  • Featured in Hummingbirds of the world This Violet-capped Woodnymph put on quite a show of color and theatrics as he had all but established himself as the king of the flowerpatch at the orchid farm where I spent 3 days last week. There are so many varieties of hummingbirds in Colombia it is nearly impossible to capture them all. / /

  • The wonderful scenery and wilderness that is northern Patagonia, Chile. This is shot from near Cerro Castillo, just outside the Torres del Paine National Park. You can see the Paine Massif in the distance and the truly blue Lake Sarmiento in the midground.

  • I was surprised this morning, after a week away, to still find anyone at home. But sure enough, there he/she was. I tried to get him while he was still on the nest but I guess he thought he was ready to leave and only got an empty nest with one egg that didn’t hatch (what I saw last week was just one). With the mottled color they are camouflaged amongst the leaves and branches. This very young sparkling violetears hummingbird is just starting out in life and testing his wings…the final stage before joining the community of hummers in this very active botanical gardens. This capture is not cropped or enlarged in anyway. I was actually able to get this close to him. This is truly a wonder of nature to see how life begins from an egg only millimeters long fit into a nest no larger than a tennis ball and finally able to leave the nest. / / /
