Cusco, Peru’ ! / While walking in Cusco a few days ago I met this little girl, Flor, and her sister Yolanda ! I had already taken a picture of them last year ” Flor y Yolanda ” and when I showed them a copy of the photo.. they were so impressed that they asked me to take more pictures. This is just one of the many I took ! She is so confident and loves to be photographed !!! I love this picture for the way she poses here, the way she smiles, her spontaneity.. and the beautiful contrast of colors !!!

The valley lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation, and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163. The Navajo name for the valley is Tsé Bii’ Ndzisgaii (Valley of the Rocks). / The area is part of the Colorado Plateau. The floor is largely Cutler Red siltstone or its sand deposited by the meandering rivers that carved the valley. The valley’s vivid red color comes from iron oxide exposed in the weathered siltstone. The darker, blue-gray rocks in the valley get their color from manganese oxide. / Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Placed in the Top 10 in the Spread Those Wings Challenge in group “Just Butterflies” in August 2009 / Featured in the group JPG Cast-Offs in July 2009 / Marcella Daggerwing – Marpesia marcella has a distribution from Mexico to Peru. I found this one in a group of at least 12 near a lagoon in the Chicaque Natural Park just outside of Bogotá, Colombia. Although it is found at all elevations from sea level to 2400m, and occurs in deciduous forest and degraded woodland as well as rainforest habitats, Marpesia marcella is primarily a cloudforest species, and is most abundant at elevations of about 1200-2000m. This species is usually encountered as small groups of up to about 6 males, visiting wet sand or mud to imbibe mineral-laden moisture. / / In hot weather they tend to constantly flit from spot to spot, fanning their wings, but occasionally settle for a while and feed while holding their wigs erect.
