This is contemporary take on the myth of Icarus whose father made him a pair of wax & feather wings so he could fly and escape his imprisonment… but not heeding his fathers advice to not fly near the sun during a trial, Icarus did and his wings melted off and he plunged to his death. It took much research and trials to come up with a ‘convincing’ design for today’s athlete who is out to escape the physical limits of mortal man by using inhumane methods of body alteration to get the advantage over competitors… all in the name of world recognition, fame and a sense of power… although often disguised by truisms like “I liked the challenge” or “we’re pushing the boundaries in the name of science and humanity”. / Here Icarus has had surgical implants to enable his wings to be driven by his body’s diverted blood pressure system connected to pistons which drive the wings. This leaves his hands free for balance, carrying gear etc. Perhaps the very thing we strive for is the very thing that holds us back in our true human quest for meaning and significance. This is the first part of a diptych. The second is the “white board” display of the aftermath of this failed attempt to get off the ground… with a full analysis of what worked, what didn’t and the appeal by the Project Manager to gain more funding from the Corporate sponsor. I’ll try to put it up if anyone’s interested, but it is detailed and pretty hard to see on screen.
i think this may be one of the best pieces I’ve done. :) this can be bought as a print on deviant art: / 3rdaccount deviantart
Can’t win. Don’t try. Here’s a de-motivational poster of mine. I took the picture as well as doing the frame (oo-la-la, white text on a black background, fancy me) so I recommend if you buy this print you buy it unframed since I don’t know how to ask the good people here to include text in a frame.
Hopefully this should inspire us all to reach the unreachable.
”...7, 8 gonna stay up late, 9 ,10 never sleep again.” This was the piece I did for my banner on display at the grad exhibition. Concept, styling, photography, post-production digital painting all by me, model is me.

*model/ concept: Art laugh because it’s funny, and cry because it’s so pitifully true, guys… the fact remains that even if you’re a talented design/ art/ photography student, the size of your income may not always be quite so proportionate to the size of your skill. (of course, if you throw in a heavy dose of prayer and ambition, THEN the equation changes…) special thanks to Art for coming up with the idea for this photo, and just being ballsy enough to do this at a freeway exit, where I’m sure drivers were more than a little weirded out by what they saw oh, and by the way… do you guys remember the good ol’ days when we thought $2.87 for a gallon of gas was expensive? we were young, naive and innocent then… fun fact: this photo is nearly two years old! I took this back in late 2006 when I didn’t even have my dSLR yet! I normally don’t go back that far when searching for past photos that are worthy of being tweaked in the lab, but this one was special :)
Acrylic On Canvas (Original Sold) Concept:You feel that you are unique and set apart for bigger things, not just another sheep under the shepherd’s shears.
I was having a peaceful moment with the birds outside the Convento de San Francisco in Lima, Peru. That’s when “el nino” blew in determined to catch himself a bird. Fortunately for the birds they were too fast for him. hope you enjoy.
Do not listen to the fears of your father / Take the wings given to you and fly for the sun Combination of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
The need to escape the fetters that bind us. We all want freedom or do we? Are any of us really free? By popular choice, I thought I should upload this as a separate image.
My origami calendar / / Just one sheet makes a big difference; / One sheet that can make over 2000 cranes. / Each crane a step closer to a better world; / Each piece a step closer to peace. Each square in the grid paper is 5×5mm; and to be exact, there were 2028 full squares in the paper When I was in grade 5 our teacher read “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” to our class. Sadako Sasaki was infected with leukemia. She spent her days folding cranes and making wishes upon them; wishing for her health and for a more peaceful world (the quote above is my writing inspired by the story of the thousand paper cranes). This concept was originally created in 2008, and photographed without a tripod. But now I have a tripod and decided to re-shoot this again and re-uploaded it on September 6, 2009. A deserted beach in Barbardos… In case you wonder why this title—the whole scene reminds me of our efforts to reach new heights, strive to be better, go further, push the limits and sometimes resist the forces of nature…. Not sure if it is good, or bad, but it is who we are – or at least most of us.
When I grow up…..! Just a bit of fun after a bottle of wine : ) See my video on YouTube
FROM WIKIPEDIA / The causes of the recent warming are an active field of research. The scientific consensus is that the increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases due to human activity has caused most of the warming observed since the start of the industrial era, and the observed warming cannot be satisfactorily explained by natural causes alone.
