  • I seriously doubt that anybody is going to buy a grainy card, poster or print of ugly old me but I nevertheless wanted to share this work with you. ;) / It’s one of those works that in real life gets tons of reactions when people see it hanging on our wall. I’m curious to see whether it will provoke any reactions here on this wonderful art community. In truth, this is only half the artwork. The other half has agreed to being upload to redbubble too, so, here she is: Showcased in Pay it Forward after a nomination by picketty because: / °°° / I have to nominate this fine work as my all time favourite because it has imprinted itself on my memory. I love the subtle colour treatment and the way the image halts me in my tracks. There are so many beautiful images, I have pages of favourite,... . but for me this is the most memorable. / °°° / Many thanks for this gigantic compliment!

  • The second installment of this duo portrait. A while ago I upload my self portrait, which is actually only half the artwork. I wasn’t sure the other half would be comfortable with her picture being on a website like redbubble but when she saw that I uploaded mine she said that those 2 should never ever be parted. She is right. The “she” I’m talking about, the beautiful girl in this image, was my girlfriend. Today, so many years later, she is my lovely wife. These 2 portraits grace our entrance hall and get a lot of reaction so I really wanted to upload them to redbubble although I don’t think that they are likely to be bought. So now, with my wife’s approval, .... Here is the other portrait from the duo: /

  • The carved pumpkin, lit by a candle inside, is one of Halloween’s most prominent symbols. / These lanterns are usually carved from a turnip or swede (or more uncommonly a mangelwurzel). / The jack-o’-lantern can be traced back to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a greedy, gambling, hard-drinking old farmer. / He tricked the devil into climbing a tree and trapped him by carving a cross into the tree trunk. / In revenge, the devil placed a curse on Jack, condemning him to forever wander the earth at night. This story has been passed down through generations of Irish families. / The carving of pumpkins is associated with Halloween in North America, where pumpkins were readily available and much larger, making them easier to carve than turnips. Many families that celebrate Halloween carve a pumpkin into a frightening or comical face and place it on their home’s doorstep after dark. In America the tradition of carving pumpkins is known to have preceded the Great Famine period of Irish immigration. / The tradition of carving vegetable lanterns may have been brought over by the Scottish or English—documentation is unavailable to establish when or by whom. The carved pumpkin was originally associated with harvest time in general in America and did not become specifically associated with Halloween until the mid-to-late 19th century. / -From Wikipedia / Halloween work details – Original is acrylic painting which I’ve altered (alot) in ps with airbrush, burn and dodge tools, some smudging and color changes. / Original painting- Cheeky Jack / also available on a tshirt / ““http://www.redbubble.com/people/dimarie/clothing/1072798-1-jacks-fire-tee Click on any category above for that genre… or / Click here to go back to my profile page ... thanx :)

  • from my original primitive /naive acrylic digitally altered

  • I’m up to my old tricks again! I’m now truly hooked on the Forgotten Postcard concept. I went digging through my old photos today to find some that I wasn’t altogether happy with to see what could be done. Venice is one of those timeless, European cities. I haven’t had the best of luck photographing it as both times I’ve been there the weather has been horrid. This particular shot was pretty drab and boring. Hopefully it’s a bit more interesting now :)

  • Mixed Media (Pencil drawing, graphic markers and photoshop). /

  • I wanted to take some pictures of how I sleep to understand my sleeping patter, always had a problem with insomnia. Watching the tossing and turning was extremely fascinating.

  • In Roman mythology, Janus (or Ianus) was the god of gates, doors, doorways, beginnings, and endings. Janus was usually depicted with two heads (not faces) looking in opposite directions, and was frequently used to symbolize change and transitions such as the progression of past to future, of one condition to another, of one vision to another, the growing up of young people, and of one universe to another. He was also known as the figure representing time because he could see into the past with one face and into the future with the other. Hence, Janus was worshipped at the beginnings of the harvest and planting times, as well as marriages, births and other beginnings. He was representative of the middle ground between barbarity and civilization, rural country and urban cities, and youth and adulthood.
