  • The river Leirungen flowing towards the lake Gjende. The tall peaks of southern Jotunheimen National Park are sadly obscured by clouds. Sunrise, late September 2007. Canon EOS 5D with Canon EF 17-40L

  • Pioneer Peak, in Alaska, is bathed in alpenglow as the sun sets.

  • Watsons Crags are in Kosciuszko National Park and in my opinion is the most spectacular alpine ridge line in Australia. On this particular occassion I had spent the day skiing out from Thredbo to camp at the frozen Lake Albina on a spectacular little knoll overlooking the Crags. This shot was taken halfway through dinner at my personal restaurant. The heater at the restaurant was pathetic, but the view… For other shots from this area check out my Kosciuszko gallery. • under the mist, there should be Innsbruck / looking south towards the Sellrain valley Canon EOS 40D / Sigma 24-60 EX DG HSM 07:57 in the morning

  • Mt. Blanca on a cold December evening, basking in alpenglow Canon 30 / 1/400 / 130mm / F/4.5 / ISO 100 12/23/07

  • The sunlight hit just right deep inside the canyon right before sunset enabling me to capture this shot. To me, shots like this show what real beauty and colors lie deep inside the Grand Canyon if you look down for it. Image captured with a Nikon D80 – Nikon 24-85 F2.8-4 D lens – circular polarizing filter. All content & images © Stephen Vecchiotti. • It was not long before dawn and there was an eerie silence around the lake. The lighting was changing by the minute and every photo had different qualities. I ended up choosing this one over the others to process because I really liked the reflection I got in it.

  • Soon after the sun rises and the alpenglow fades, the lighting evens out and gives more natural daytime colors. The wind dies down and gives better reflections and the wildlife comes out to greet the new day. I saw a couple of deer while photographing that morning. They were wandering across the lakeside on the right. The fishermen started coming out in numbers around this time and made things a little tough on me since I was set up right near the marina and had to wait wile boats passed through my viewfinder every few minutes. In the end though, it was a beautiful summer morning that I wish I could experience everyday.

  • Opinions needed. I need one or two more images for my Deserts Calendar and this is one candidate. Thumbs up or down? I found these fascinating formations of clay to remind me of pawns on a chessboard. Last Light illuminating the odd formations of Goblin Valley State PArk in Utah.

  • Fiery sunset over icy mountain, storm clouds moving in; Wilhelmina bay Antarctica

  • Sunset & alpenglow, mountains and mirror – calm ocean, Paradise harbor, Antarctica

  • Laurel Mountain dominates much of the view at Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierras of California. The steep escarpment is known as the Sevehah Cliff. This photo was taken in early Spring when much of the higher elevations are still covered in snow.

  • Mountains and sea – sunset & alpineglow, Lynn Canal, Alaska

  • This is Leon Wurl, the road that takes me to work. It’s a great way to start the day! /

  • This is a photo I have been holding onto for a long time waiting to process. I finally decided how I wanted it to look so here it is! This is Lake George, in the Mammoth Lakes Basin, Eastern Sierras, Ca. Fly fisherman often fish off of this shelf. I was just starting a hike that passes the lake and this scene caught my eye. The mountain in the background doesn’t have an official name but I have heard it called Red Mountain before. There was a lot of mining activity there in the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

  • Alpenglow reflected from the canyon walls onto the snow. best viewed large :)

  • The majestic Mt. Rainier capped with a small cloud as the first light of a new day illuminates the peak and reflects in the still waters of Bench LAke

  • This was taken moments before the sun cast its first warm rays against the mountains. Watching a sunrise in the Sierra Nevada mountains is hard to beat. It isn’t called the Range of Light for nothing. The quiet peacefulness before dawn slowly escalates as it gets lighter and the animals come alive. This is an HDR created using Photomatix Pro.

  • The Grand Tetons ablaze in early morning alpenglow. I was lucky to have two clear mornings as the wildfires both here and in Yellowstone created a lot of smoke. Nikon D300, Nikkor 24-85 lens, HDR processed in Photomatix
