  • This image is of a very steep slope off The Razorback near Mt.Hotham toward Mt.Feathertop. You can clearly see the effects of both the weather and gravity on the paterned snow. It is amazing how tough the snowgums are, and the places they can survive. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • Taken on Mt.Higginbotham at Mt.Hotham the cloud had just thinned enough toward the sun enough to allow a soft but distinct shadow to be cast by the snowgum onto the fresh snow. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • This was taken in late Autumn before the start of the official snow season, looking down the top trail at Mt.Baw Baw. The overhanging snowgums laden with snow, the fog and dropping away of the track gave a feeling of walking through a snowy tunnel. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • This photo was taken looking Due west from Mt.Higginbotham at Mt.Hotham resort just as a storm was coming in. Fresh snow had recently fallen so it was a real winter wonderland! / / This shot was taken not far from, and about 30 minutes before this panorama . / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • This was taken between Mt.Hotham and Dinner Plain, at JB Plain in the Victorian Alps. It shows one situation where shooting in the middle of the day was the best time as the broad snow gum canopy cast a nice consistently patterned shadow across the fresh snow. / ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • This shot was actually slightly overexposed, which allowed the snow gum that has a dusting of fresh snow to come out in a more ghostly grey, with detail in the trunk retained. The surrounding snow and sky however wasn’t completely washed out, and the slight detail and contrast there allows you to just discern its place relative to the snow and this sky. / ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • This was taken late in the afternoon in early Spring. At 1922m Mt.Feathertop is the second highest mountain in Victoria, Australia behind Mt.Bogong. • Mystical Snow Gums, on the Great Alpine Road in Victoria , just have to love those trees. The Great Alpine Road meaders through national park landscape of the Victorian Alps. Sale to unknown buyer, matted print

  • Watsons Crags are in Kosciuszko National Park and in my opinion is the most spectacular alpine ridge line in Australia. On this particular occassion I had spent the day skiing out from Thredbo to camp at the frozen Lake Albina on a spectacular little knoll overlooking the Crags. This shot was taken halfway through dinner at my personal restaurant. The heater at the restaurant was pathetic, but the view… For other shots from this area check out my Kosciuszko gallery. • In July 2007 I did my first ever snow shoe walk from Falls Creek out past Pretty Valley to Tawonga Huts and the Niggerheads then over Mt Fainter and down to Bogong Village. The downhills aren’t as fun as my crossies but the uphill and flats are a dream much easier manoeuvrability for photography too. Great trip had some good weather (the following day was a whiteout). Love the way f22 on my fisheye lens creates this sunburst effect, doesn’t work very well with a dark foreground but with this highly reflective snow it’s a winner. Just after I completed this trip I got a phone call from someone who had heard about an exhibition I did earlier in the year and who had specifically wanted a picture of the Victorian Alps, they ended up buying a 12”x30” framed print of this one. • Waking up well before dawn I drove through the fog filled valley hoping to get above the clouds for what I was sure would be a magnificent vista. Eventually I broke through found this spot and tree to accompany the magnificent pre dawn light and in awe observed this beautiful sight. • This shot took me somewhat by surprise. I had just spent two days hiking in Mt Buffalo National Park in Victoria, Australia with half of it off track. The previous day I had woken on Mt McLeod and hiked straight down over the granite slabs to Rollasons Falls near the base of the mountain. To give you an idea of how hard it was, it took me 7 hours to hike 3km, quite treacherous in spots too, but magnificent country and vistas. That morning I had re-ascended the mountain via ‘The Big Walk’ to my car then went back to the Chalet to say good bye to The Gorge. Having been to Bents Lookout numerous times before I saw no point in taking my camera which until this point had been my constant companion. Of course as soon as I got there this amazing rainbow appeared sending me scrambling back to the car for my camera, fortunately it was still there when I got back and this image was the result which ended up being my favorite for the trip. • The beautiful, unspoiled, relatively isolated (until I opened my big mouth) Val di Funes, in the northern part of the Italian Dolomites. Each year when we visit the Dolomites (home from home – remember I AM a marmot), we try to get to spend a few hours, with a picnic (make mine an Asti Spumante!) in this peaceful and amazing place. Unfortunately, the vista here faces north – we need to try and get here earlier/later in the day for a clearer shot of those jagged spires.

  • Oh dear, I’m getting broody for the Italian Dolomites today, but fortunately I’ll be back there in 2 weeks time… This is the south side of the Sella Massif as seen from the the top of Marmolada Cable Car Station. I’m hoping to get up there in better weather, one day…and you see that green mountain in the middle – well that’s where some of my marmot relatives “hang out” as Jay would say! What a view, eh??? I’ve never suggested you view larger, but since this is a pano crop, it might be nice…. ;o)
