  • I did this ink drawing back in 1992 for fun after I learned a time consuming process of simply making ink dots while in my Graphic Arts class. I loved the outcome of this so much that I had it framed. I happened to see it a few days ago and decided to photograph it—to share with all of you. A mistress is a man’s long term sexual partner and companion. Historically, the term has denoted a kept woman who is maintained in a comfortable (or even lavish) lifestyle by a wealthy man so that she will be available for his sexual pleasure; essentially a kind of highly expensive, single-client prostitute. Today however, it is used primarily to refer to the companion of a man who is married to another woman; in the case of an unmarried man it is usual to speak of a girlfriend or partner. The relationship is generally stable and at least semi-permanent; however, the couple do not live together openly. Historically a man kept a mistress. As the term implies, he was responsible for her debts and provided for her in much the same way as he did his wife. In more recent and emancipated times, it is more likely that the mistress has a job of her own, and is less, if at all, financially dependent on the man. It is not uncommon for a man to have acknowledged children by his mistress.

  • I took this shot in Nice, France. The original shot was non-digital, so I took a digital photo of the shot and tried a blue tint. I kind of like it this way…it’s like he’s a detective and only The Shadow Knows…for sure. :) / I originally caption titled the photo: / Pondering My Past, Present & Future / (seems like this chap could be doing that as well). Sold 1 Mounted Print to a mystery RB buyer in England.

  • I couldn’t help myself. I was waiting outside the SOHO, NYC post-office. I saw this girl and had to act fast…I love capturing one in ‘deep thought’. I’m sure she was thinking whether or not she should stay at her current job…no? LOL

  • The feeling of freedom, to breathe once again and feel the wind as it sweeps across the open fields. I feel the solitude and the tranquility, lift my face and feel the purity of the air, it envelopes me stroking me and i embrace it willingly. • It was snowing heavily in late evening upon our arrival in St Johann, Austria. This lovely lone tree was full of snow and went straight into my must photograph journal, I decided to wait till morning to get the best light. The only thing that stopped my planned photograph, the morning rain. Although this shot was not what I was intending I am happy with the result as the mist did help in isolating the tree. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 70mm, f/11, 1/400 sec, ISO 200. No filters used. A massive amount of dust and hair removed in photoshop, where had my camera been and OMG, how do I stop the sensor getting that dirty? This shot is also available from a photobook collection called Rural Mementos by redtree.me © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.

  • Due to the amazing amount of comments I have had from Solitude I thought I’d share this shot. I couldn’t help myself, I had to walk up to the tree, hence the footprints in the virgin snow, although retracing my footprints to take the photograph was very difficult. This shot was taken in St Johann, Austria. I hope you like it. Greeting Cards / Framed Print / Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 70mm, f/11, 1/400 sec, ISO 200. No filters used.
