The Ghost gums of Ormiston Gorge are a spectacular sight at any time of day, they grow straight out of the rock face of the gorge and flourish. Ormiston Gorge, West MacDonnell Ranges National Park / Northern Territory / Australia
The Skies over Kings Canyon are filled with heavy rolling clouds. Looking down towards the head of the canyon and detailing doth the rock formations and vegetation I think that this one of my favourites. Kings Canyon, Watarrka National park / Northern Territory / Australia
One of my favourite subjects in the West MacDonnall ranges is Mt. Sonder the third tallest peak in the Northern Territory. Mt. Sonder, West MacDonnall Ranges National Park / Northern Territory / Australia
Strong southerly winds carry tonnes of sand hundred of kilometres from South Australia and deposit them into the Northern Territory. A scene with movement and drama this has to be one of my favourites from around the base. Shot at the entrance of the Mujutuulu waterhole on the southern side of Uluru. Uluru, Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park / Northern Territory / Australia
Constant down pours for more than a week have produced some amazing sights around Uluru. Usually bone dry sand and dust is transformed into a tropical garden if only for a short time. This has to be one of my best images. Ormiston Gorge, West MacDonnell Ranges National Park / Northern Territory / Australia
The Finke river one of the worlds oldest river systems flowed once again this summer. A cloudy sky and the perfect amount of light to record both the shadows and highlights in the range made this a great day for photography. Glen Helen is a spot that I rarely get to shoot because of a limited amount of time and a desire to take part in a tonic lime and bitters at the bar. Glen Helen Gorge, West MacDonnell Ranges National Park / Northern Territory / Australia site www.thedirtygardener.org
A well weathered Rock Acacia sit on top the ridge line of the South wall of Ormiston Pound. I had been watching this tree for almost a year now and dreaming of having the right light too shoot it. This morning was perfect with heavy clouds to really block out the sun which would have been right behind the branches. Plus the amazingly clear conditions enabled the viewer to see a stunning amount of detail in the usually dusty mountains of the north wall. Once full rock pools are slowly drying up in the intense heat of summer. Before they do dry up these pools are teaming with both animal and plant life. Some of the more note worthy are fish up to 20cm long many species of frogs and blooming algae. An amazing afternoon at one of my favourite campsites along the Finke river here in Central Australia. Billabongs, Water birds, stunning rocky outcrops and of course the majestic presence of Mt. Sonder never far away. An afternoon to remember with a thunderstorm looming just minutes away and a truly amazing display of lightning over Mt. Sonder to top it all off. 2 Mile, West MacDonnell Ranges National Park / Northern Territory / Australia site www.thedirtygardener.org ________ Camera & Processing Canon 5D MKII / Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM at 160mm / 1/6 sec at f/22 Lightroom 2.2 / - RAW files processed to DNG format / - Catalogued and selected Photomatics 3.0 / - 3 exposure (+/- 2 EV) tone mapped HDR Photoshop CS3 / - Channel Mixer / - Nic Software Colour Efex Pro 3.0, Pro Contrast

Simpson’s Gap is located 23 km from Alice Springs in the West MacDonnell National Park. Rare Black-footed Rock-wallabies are found here and are often seen if you look hard enough at the rocks walls and tall grasses. The Simpsons Gap area incorporates large areas of Mulga and is a major stronghold for over 40 rare plants. It forms part of the MacDonnell Ranges and is located on the Larapinta Trail. Orton effect applied The area is an important spiritual site to the Arrernte Aboriginal people, where several dreaming trails and stories cross.
