Title:From the Sea / Artist: Jessica Tremp / Model: Jo O’Brien THE MERMAID A mermaid found a swimming lad, / Picked him for her own, / Pressed her body to his body, / Laughed; and plunging down / Forgot in cruel happiness / That even lovers drown. William Butler Yeats a few of my favourite things come together…mystery, the sea, earthy colours and textures and an overall sense of whimsicality and melancholy
Pollution reigns.
Salt flats near Swakopmund photographed from the air. What I find interesting is that as the water recedes the algae metabolise at a different rate that changes their colour. That is why it looks like there is blood on the landscape.
Taken at Wakki Beach. This place really does exist – near Scotts Head on the North Coast of NSW, Australia. SOLD one extra large canvas print – thanks to the buyer

This is a macro of moss and algae growing on sandstone rock…..reminded me of an aerial view of the Amazon jungle!!!!!

for the very lovely and talented artist Helen Chierego In the summer of 2000, sudden summer storms washed large amounts of nutrients into Port Phillip Bay. These nutrients caused blooms of microscopic algae called dinoflagellates. The increased nutrients and warm water meant that these planktonic organisms may be present in sufficient numbers to colour the water. This happened late in November and the eastern shores of Port Phillip Bay were stained red by an algal bloom. / Although the dinoflagellates were apparently not toxic, they were able to glow in the dark. During this phenomenon, many locals would arrive on the beach shores at night, pick up a hand full of sand and throw it into the sea to see it glow in the dark. Bioluminescence is simply light produced by a chemical reaction which originates in an organism. / Bioluminescence is a primarily marine phenomenon. It is the predominant source of light in the largest fraction of the habitable volume of the earth, the deep ocean. / Bioluminescent bacteria occur nearly everywhere, and probably most spectacularly as the rare “milky sea” phenomenon, particularly in the Indian Ocean where mariners report steaming for hours through a sea glowing with a soft white light as far as the eye can see.

my own picture + curves for color adjustment / light adj. (it was shot in low light environment and forgot to set a higher ISO) + texture (thank you Wildfire47 for sharing this stunning texture !!) / - / my youngest child – 5 yo – loves fish… fishing, feeding them by hand, catching them with a net or hands, watching them for hours, kissing them… small or big, gray, yellow , red or blue… she loves them all the way… except in her plate ! lol yesterday, when I said we were going to the drugstore, she was happy because she remembered there was an aquarium with beautiful tropical fish and crustaceans there. So I brought my camera and “courage” not often you see someone shooting in a drugstore ! in fact, I never did … lol and told her she could choose one picture from which I would make a wallpaper for her computer. this is one of the picture I took. I couldn’t resist working on the colors and adding a texture to see what it would look like. I was pleased with it and so happy my daughter make me see life with such innocence and wonder ! / I wouldn’t have taken this picture if it wasn’t for her ;) hope some of you will enjoy it as well ^^ / - / /
On a group photo shoot last night with six other members of the Mt Gambier and Limestone Coast camera Groups. Travelled to Carpenters Rocks and to the Lighthouse looking over Red Rock Bay. With an extremely low tide the green growth was exposed and created a bed of colour across the rocks. Canon 400D, 18 – 55 lens with Hoya CIR Polarising filter. Thanks to Globalphotos for the name change!

Background Information: / The term sea refers to certain large bodies of water, but there is inconsistency as to its precise definition and application. Most commonly, a sea may refer to a large expanse of saline water connected with an ocean, but it is also used sometimes for a large saline lake that lacks a natural outlet, e.g. the Caspian Sea. Colloquially, the term is used as a synonym for ocean. Additionally, large lakes, such as the Great Lakes of North America, are occasionally referred to as “inland seas”. Salty Rocks / Foam /
