The new Summer Issue of Ottawa Life Magazine is out, and I’m all over this issue! / First we got the front cover. No surprise here that I teamed up with Alexandra Rodionova for this amazing shot. We came up with a great idea at the last moment. I love it when that happens. The Magazine also used another one of the cover shots for the main article, which I personally think is better than the cover shot. Then there is the two full page spread I shot at Hotel Indigo with Alex and Christiana, make-up by Erin Heather. This was a crazy shoot. Twelve hours! This shoot is going down as one of the hardest shoots I’ve done. / There are just some things you don’t expect to have problems with. Everything was great and wonderful till the exact moment we started shooting. Then everything goes wrong. / The lights didn’t work properly, the location starting having problems, outfit problems. The list goes on and on. But as usual we pulled together and prevailed! / I originally wasn’t sure what I was going to get from this shoot, but as time went on, as I was working on the pictures, I started to see the greatness of what a small group of determined people can do. / To view the entire set, plus the unpublished pictures, click on the link below. / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/72157601121278550/

I often take for granted the ease the working relationship is between Alexandra Rodionova and I. These pictures are a direct result of that comradery. If you where an onlooker on a shoot with Alex and I you would wonder why we hardly talk when we’re right in the middle of taking pictures. Well, we don’t need to communication, “stand this way, look that way, etc”. We know each others every move. Thus is the benefit of working with a muse. / Alas, these days must come to an end. After 5 years of working together Alex is going her own way. So all I have now are there archived photo shoots to share. I’m sure once in awhile we’ll team up again… / ...in the mean time I guess I’m in the market for a new muse! / You can contact me at muse@chaosacademy.net. / Please include head shots and full body shots. hehe / Continue here to view the full set. / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/72157594387973146/

And so it has come to a time when I need to end the bohemian lifestyle I am enjoying and re-enter the workforce so that I might do such sundry activities as eat, pay bills and buy a new lens. If anyone knows of any jobs going in the arts/events admin vicinity it’d be smashing if you could throw a link my way. If it leads to a job I’ll buy you a print.

  • Touch Me Calendar
    by Alexander Edwards

Here it is. My first ever exhibit will happen in January 09. I’ll be exhibiting the Touch Me series. This is part of the reason why so far none of the images have been for sale in any form until now. Partly because I need help funding the prints for the exhibit. Each calendar will pay for one print to be hung on the wall. But please don’t think I will be charging a heap for the prints and rolling around in the profits. This whole project is non-profit and I will be pricing the prints to recover costs and provide some money to my very helpful models – who so far have worked for nothing. So please know that if you buy one of these you’re getting art on your wall that was made with much love. And that in buying one you have made more than one person very happy to be able to continue doing what they love.

And so it is… “Touch Me”... my first exhibit. It opens on the 21st January, 2009 at the 69 Smith St Gallery – oddly enough at 69 Smith St in Collingwood. I haven’t checked out the space yet. But I can’t wait to. And start getting down to the nitty gritty of organising it all. Hope you can get there for the two weeks that its not. Any constructive criticism would be muchly appreciated as well.

Today. I got emails. 1) Postcards from the Edge sent me an email promoting the event and I’m listed as one of the artists… in a list containing some rather famous artists including Yoko Ono. I don’t know why, but I think thats really cool.. 2) Spunk magazine want to print my stuff in their first issue. Printed soon. Distro in Sydney, Melbourne and NYC planned thus far. 3) My test print for my exhibition was ready to be picked up. And it looks fantastic. If I do dare to say so myself. Printed on Moab Entrada paper… I showed a friend and she wanted to touch it. I went a little crazy. And the opening is set to be biggish… So I am going even more crazy. If someone wants to give me advice on how to set it up, then please shoot me a mail. Thank you to all on here who have given me advice and support thus far. Tis muchly appreciated.

When I was told that my work had been featured I had to ask Tai what featured meant. When it was explained to me I was spellbound. I had been on RB for such a short time and then to have 3 of my works featured by a group is overwhelming. To know that the photos I took to remember Alex by are worthy of such accolades. To have work featured, especially in the I Love Birds group, means a great deal to me. I can’t even start to express my appreciation to all concerned. It is not very often I am at a loss for words and this is one of those rare occasions.

  • Please encourage all Artists on Red Bubble and beyond as you have been encouraged.

/ Enthusiasm is 99% of any “Art”. The major part of “Art” is the enthusiasm of its creation. No matter what standard your art is at if you can keep the passion, the enthusiasm, your skills, your artistic know how, your application to each new work will improve each time. Do not let the results of your first works dampen your enthusiasm in creating; again not every budding artist is a “natural”. Red Bubble has many great natural artists and looking through Red Bubble’s portfolio of artists and their works, I see improvement on each successive art creation. I also see the encouragement the “natural “artists give to all in their replies and comments. This is their enthusiasm showing through to all artists and their artistic creations no matter what standard their art is at. What they understand is the enthusiasm of your creation. I enjoy all arts because of their enthusiastic application not necessarily because of their standard compared to other artists. I love sculpture and in sculpting all animals I have achieved a certain standard, and with each successive sculpture my enthusiasm has made an improvement. In other words I have done it the hard way and looking back I can have a good laugh at my first attempts to be creative but I do not laugh at my enthusiasm as it is even stronger now than in the beginning. I remember a remark made by a young girl when I was sculpting a marine fish angel at a demonstration. She said, “I would love to do what you are doing but I see that would be impossible. I can’t see where I would start.” / I had to say to her, / ” Are you enthusiastic enough to attempt a small beginning?” I talked to her about starting and gave her a few pointers and remarked that her first attempts may be laughable to her but somewhere down the successive track of prospective sculptures her laugh will turn into a lovely inner smile of satisfaction, a recognition of the fact the satisfaction that others will get from her own creations and that her skills may encourage some others to take up some kind of art and so it goes on. / Here’s to enthusiasm, / The Auld Yin. / Karen Hull awards for exceptional works of Art In any Genre. / I am not an expert in all fields of artistic creations on Red Bubble, if any at all. My eyes and my instinct tell me what I like and what is exceptional. / It is on this basis I would like to give this Karen Hull Award. / Karen Hull is an exceptional artist on Red Bubble, nearing genius in my humble opinion. / I found it more and more difficult commenting on her magnificent creations; this concerned me because her works should be appreciated and commented on by all. So this Award by me is not to put myself in a judgmental position on any genre of the arts, it will be given along with my usual comments; whereas before I have given only comments I find now that I need to express more emotion on their wonderful works of art. / Please for your own appreciation of wonderful works of exceptional Art have a look at Karen’s portfolio / Karen Hull / I will post my award winners on my profile page as they occur. / MY Profile

  • Karen Hull Trophy for the big sook joak
    by Alex Gardiner

Karen Hull / Visit this portfolio and be surprised by this artist’s wonderfull talent. / youtu…

Karen Hull / Visit this portfolio and be surprised by this artist’s wonderfull talent. / / joak’s wee brother / / I award the Karen Hull Trophy to the big sook joak. He has a wonderful colourful portfolio not to mention his wonderful colourful vocabulary; so I won t mention it :( It is not all of those attributes he has that I give this award but for the sheer presence he has when he is on Red Bubble. I have followed the big sook way the funny legs and the big fat Erse for some time now. I have tried to educate the big lump but so far to no avail; but I will keep on keeping on for this Scottish legend of the Red bubble has such a large following, especially among the female gender; Aye it denies explanation and I am not going to try for it would take till hell freezes over to understand, this, this, this, jings crivens even, how can you explain him? His colourful Scottish accent and his lack of grammar and his spelling leaves you to wonder why is this so?. Well he is likable; he is much larger than life; he loves his wife and family; (you know this by his slagging of his wife) (a Scot only slags when he likes or loves some-one) If you don’t understand joak’s accent or script have a look at the Scottish CLICK HERE you will have a translation of the big sooks language. He loves his dugs (dogs) to the enth degree; he loves his Red Bubble and he loves taking the Mickey out of me. He endearingly calls me a wee Edinburgh shite and I thank him for that. I do not think I really have to explain to joak’s followers why this award, they know all too well and they all look forward to the big ex pixie’s next appearance on Red Bubble. So joak ya big sook I hope you accept this award and dinny stoap me slaggin’ yea in the future. / The Auld Yin. / PS. All Karen Hull Awards will be posted on my profile page.
