  • 1840 v2.0 / With the original versions of these pictures I was not able to use all the shots because they where damaged. But now, four years later, and with Photo Shop CS3, I’m able to rescue some really great pictures and show them now with pride. / This series was done in the middle of the woods, around the middle of Dec, 2002. It was freezing! The hot chocolate helped though. Most of these pictures are with Theak & Alex standing together, this was not a direction, and they were doing this out of a need for warmth! Half of these pictures were taken using a Nikon F, or F2 I believe, (no markings on the camera), and the other half with a Canon G3 digital camera. / Great makeup job by Rhiana, and of course, the whole look and feel of this shoot would not have been possible if not for the styling of Elisa. / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

  • During a product shoot for a hip hop band, I caught Alex in between outfits. As she was facing away from me the light on her back was incredible. I asked her to freeze. She turned slightly and I took this picture. Model: Alexandra Rodionova / http://www.alexandrarodionova.net / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

  • As a once psychology major, I was intrigued by Freud’s theory on the id and ego of the human psyche. It has been many years since those classes so my words may be somewhat off. But this piece is a self representation (aren’t they all?) of myself and how the “id” and “ego” play in our life decisions. We all seek pleasure and that constant feeling of euphoria, and our “id”’s only goal is to achieve those feelings without worry or care about the consequences of such actions. It is our “ego” that keeps the “id” in line, allowing us to think before we act, and to be able to foresee what may come of this pleasure seeking. It is a constant battle that wages on beneath our skin and sometimes the “id” overcomes. Some choose to live only by the “id”s bidding and never realize the destruction they leave behind when seeking their pleasures. I have been through that lifestyle once, and as much as I enjoyed such pleasures in bountiful amounts….the aftershock of those actions can still be felt today.

  • Wear the grudge like a crown / Desperate to control / Unable to forgive / And sinking / Deeper

  • The dirty lord of the manor surveys his filthy domain. Too many nights raising hell worked a little all too well. Constructed a monument to denial and excess, sunk so low, crawled so far back there’s nowhere left to regress. If these walls could talk, they would tell a horror story; Never-ending winter, violence and infidelity. Shadows fall through broken panes. Careless words that are filled with hate. Just enough to keep it together, never enough to make it work. Follow the path of least expectance. I don’t hate you, I’m just removing an enemy. Remorse is for the dead, my enemy. Remorse is for the dead.

  • Their existence is a crime / Their seat, their robe, their tie / Their land deeds / Their hired guns / They’re the crime

  • Giant Blue Clams from Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Indian Ocean Territories, Australia. The wonderful, luminous colours of the clams make them shine underneath the water. When snorkelling of diving in Cocos they are a wonder to see. The clams pictured above are reared beachside in a large salt water nursery. Visitors to the islands can visit the clam farm and learn more about these amazing creatures. This has been my most successful print to date. It won the Wildlife Category of the Expose Your World Photography Awards 2008 (national) and the Open Colour Section of the York Society Photography Awards 2008 (state), as well as a Highly Commended in the Melville Art Awards 2008 (state) and a Highly Commended in the ANZANG Nature Photography Awards 2008, Underwater category (national) and a Highly Commended in the Jan/Feb Fujifilm Showcase Photography Competition. It has also been published in “Camera Magazine” (Jan/Feb issue) . To take it I leant over the water to drop my shadow over the glare on the surface. Of course, the clams saw me do this and thought i was a predator, so they closed. I stood at an almost 90% angle for several minutes until they opened up again. I managed to take 3 frames before they sensed my movement and closed. Canon 5D, ISO 400, f8, AV MODE, 24-105MM L Series Canon Lens / Handheld, no flash, Auto White Balance. As is from camera. Meet baby Butterfly – possibly the cutest kitten ive ever seenfrom the RSPCA WA, Perth. I took the shot on a table, with a small black dog bed on it, and the blanket Butterfly is sitting on is placed on top of that. There was a window in the direction of her tilted head, so side-on to me. I used a Canon 50mm prime lens at about f2.2 to get a sharp nose and eyes but blurred background. I use this technique mostly when im shooting in very low light and particularly for the RSPCA as it gives an etheral and more emotive feel to the shots i think. The rest of this room was quite dark as the RSPCA movie was being filmed in it at the same time. Butterfly was too fragile to be on the floor with the larger kittens, so i took a break in taking stills of the movie making process and babysat her for a while, on my makeshift ‘studio’. Her story – This is a 5 week old kitten called Butterfly. She was found abandoned at 1 week old with her brother, wrapped in a towel and dumped in a park. Her brother didnt make it, and Butterfly has had her battles but she is doing well and will be ok. I was lucky enough to get to spend an hour with her taking photos and talking cat talk out at the RSPCA WA headquateres. She is so tiny and so cute…I fell in love. The RSPCA vet nurse is going to take her home as soon as she has grown and doesnt need monitored care. Taken with a Canon 5D and Canon 50mm prime lens @ f 2.2, ISO 800 1/200th sec. Natural window light used. Handheld. No editing. Profit portion of any sales will go to the RSPCA WA. Featured in Cats & Dogs Group (twice), and The Photographers Craft Group. Won “Best Animal Photo” in the As Is Group Challenge and is currently the Avatar for that group (14th Feb 09). Featured in Kittens Group & As Is Group, June 2009. Placed in top 10 (#4) in Kittens Group “Blue Eyes” Challenge, June 2009. Placed in top ten (#3) in All Soft and Cuddlies Group Challenge “Cuddle Up Kitty”, June 2009.

  • This Neishima, at 3 weeks of age, a puppy rescued from an owner who couldnt care for her, and cared for by the RSPCA WA.
