Taken at Hume Weir, Albury Australia. Although we have had some rain of late the weir is still very low due to the drought. There are still plenty of dead trees sticking out of the water. The tangled/entwined appearance of this tree got me thinking about how all the elements are linked/entwined.
The varying layers of cloud created wonderful variations in colour in this sunset. I was lucky enough to spot a dead tree on a nearby hill to create a great silhouette. Taken on Victorian side of Hume Weir out past Bellbridge.
This is the Hume Weir taken from Huon Reserve on the way out to Tallangata. Although the weir is currently at 18% and in a better position then the last couple of years the situation is still quite dire for a lot of the country and farmers.

This was taken on our open day this year. / This is Albury’s oldest fire station. It was opened in 1916. Taken with a Canon 350D and image altered with Lucas Art /

MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER Welcome to my latest work , for those commenting and if i am lucky favouriting thank you for dropping in ! This shot was taken on my recent travels south , had a great time wandering around Albury on my way back from Victoria. At Albury Wodonga, the Hume Highway, Australia’s busiest national transport corridor, crosses the Murray. For many years, Albury Wodonga has been singled out by travellers to break their journey overland from Melbourne to Sydney. In fact, Hamilton Hume and William Hovell passed through the area in 1824 and the famous ‘Hovell Tree’, in which Hovell carved his initials, still stands on the banks of the Murray River at Albury. Albury is lucky to be located on the magnificent Murray River. AlburyCity has a series of parks along the River’s edge with picnic and barbecue facilities. A two metre wide shaded walking/cycling trail runs through the parks, and has links to other trail networks throughout Albury and into Wodonga. Why not take a break at the outdoor Riverdeck Café in Noreuil Park. There’s a children’s playground, and the Noreuil Park foreshore is a favourite swimming spot if the weather is right. This shot was taken with 5 bracketted images around sunset, the camera Nikon D300, using a Sigma 10-20mm lens. The image processed using Photomatix Pro with a tidy up with Capture NX. The platform at the Albury railway station Canon 350D Albury Railway Station was built during 1881-83 and was designed by NSW Government Railways Chief Engineer John Whitton. The building is symmetrical with a prominent central clock tower surmounted by a small cupola. The building is over 91 metres long and is constructed of polychrome brick which is relieved by stuccoed decoration marking out pilasters, arch lintels, pediments, architraves and string courses. There are some characteristics of Victorian Italianate style. The platform, notable for its great length (it is one of the longest in Australia), is built of cast iron with fluted columns and it has an iron roof. Internally, the building features an impressive domed main booking hall. The station is an imposing structure, one of the best of its type in Australia, located in a prominent position which makes it a fine city landmark in Albury. BEST VIEWING LARGER I had great fun wandering this magical area , the home to hundreds of bird species that have made home to this oasis, add to that the wonderful sunsets over the Murray and to get one like this you do feel Blessed ! “Wonga” is Wiradjuri for Black Cormorant, still one of the most abundant bird species in this area. The Wonga Wetlands was named to give recognition to the local flora and fauna, and the important relationship the Aboriginal people had with this environment. *Restoring Natural Flow * / / A unique environmental development has taken shape downstream from Albury, along the floodplain of the Murray River – the Wonga Wetlands. The water that is bringing new life to this beautiful country is not directly from the river – it’s from the AlburyCity’s wastewater treatment systems. During the warmer months the reclaimed treated wastewater is used for irrigation, while in wetter months it is redirected to the wetlands, helping to restore the natural flow regime. Since the construction of the Hume Dam in 1919, the Murray River has been regulated for irrigation and does not flood as often. When flooding occurs, it is now often in the late Spring or Summer and is of a lower intensity. This alteration to the natural flow has dried out many of the floodplain wetlands and billabongs, destroying the bird and fish breeding habitat. The Wonga Wetlands development is an opportunity to revert to the original hydrological regime, with birds and other wildlife now returning to the wetlands For more information on Wonga Wetlands“ / / Equipment: Nikon D300, Sigma 10-20mm lens, Manfrotto Tripod, Luck / Technique:HDR, 5 Braketted Exposures, Photomatix Pro, Tidy up in Capture NX
