Now this IS my desktop photo and is one of my favorites, obviously. / I just wish I had taken this at a higher resolution. / The Kananaskis is the foothills area of the Rockies southwest of Calgary Alberta. There is a wonderful road from Longview to Canmore which has some of the most spectacular and available scenery for shutterbugs. A sunny day is just a recipe for a wonderful day of photography.

It is the commercial center of Jasper National Park, located in the Canadian Rockies in the Athabasca River valley. Jasper is 362 kilometres (225 mi), or approximately 3 1/2 hours west of Edmonton. Jasper is 290 kilometres (180 mi) north of Banff, Alberta, with the Icefields Parkway connecting the Jasper townsite to Lake Louise in Banff National Park. It was established as a specialized municipality on July 20, 2001 and the governance of Jasper is shared between the Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada Agency. Jasper House was first a Northwest Company, and later Hudson’s Bay Company, fur trade outpost on the York Factory Express trade route to Fort Vancouver on the lower Columbia River. Jasper National Park was established in 1907, with the Canadian Northern Railway beginning service to Jasper in 1912. The Jasper townsite was surveyed in 1913 by H. Matheson. Athabascar Glacier, Icefields National Park, Alberta, Canada. / March 2008 Taken on our road trip through the Rocky Mountains in March this year, we were already falling behind on this day, losing time after so many great stops and photo opportunities along the way through the Icefields National Park onto our next destination of Pocahontas, just outside of Japser. We had agreed that we would have to limit our stops to reach our destination before sunset, but when we turned a corner and saw this, we couldn’t resist! A foolish decision to save time, we decided not to go through the usual process of jumping out of the car and putting on our many layers of warm clothes, hats and gloves… this would just be a quick stop. Big mistake! This place was cold… this place was very cold… this place was fer-fer-fer-freezing! Not only that, but the best shooting point was actually a short run down the road… it would have been a walk had it not been so cold! Destination reached, we set about shooting, fingers shaking, body temperatures dropping… it wasn’t long before we couldn’t stand any more and headed back to the car… ran back to the car! Claire even getting hysterical with laughter during the process – as they say, we could but only laugh! Anyway, lesson learned! We had been so careful before and always been appropriately dressed… this wouldn’t happen again! Glad to have got at least one shot from the experience!

Lorette Ponds in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, are 5 small ponds that were formed by the diversion of the Kananaskis River. They are often stocked with rainbow trout and fishing is permitted. There is a nice little bridge where you can cross from one side to the other with a paved walking trail all around the ponds. My friends and I built an Inukshuk on the banks of this pond in September 2006, I will check this year when I go back to see if was left there or destroyed. Kananaskis Country is a park located southwest of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. / Canon EOS Rebel XTi; Canon 18-55mm lens / Inukshuk / They are monuments made of unworked stones that are used by the Inuit for communication and survival. A great set of clouds over the prairie landscape near Drumheller, Alberta. This image was originally shot on slide film. I have a ~27×40 inch canvas of this print, which looks gorgeous. You can see the film grain nicely at that size and people always ask me if it is a painting. / This image was tweaked and re-loaded Oct 20, ‘09 as I found the RB print I had made was too dark and muddy. It worked well for the canvas I had, but not for RB cards!
