EVERY MARCH THE GREAT BLUE HERONS IN THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY NATIONAL PARK START BUILDING OR REBUILDING THIER NESTS. / THERE ARE TWO HERON ROOKERIES WITHIN THE PARK CONFINES. THIS IS THE LARGER ONE, COMPRISED OF OVER FIFTY NESTS, MOST WITHIN ONE HUNDRED YARDS OF BATH ROAD. THE PARK SERVICE HAS INSTALLED A SMALL PARKING AREA ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE GATHER TO WATCH THE BIRDS EVERY SPRING THAT TRAFFIC COULDN’T GET THROUGH

I’M VERY OFTEN SURPRISED TO SEE HOW A RAINY OVERCAST DAY CAN SOMETIMES BRING OUT MORE COLOR THAN SUNSHINE. THIS WAS TAKEN ON SUCH A DAY IN THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY.

THESE TWO GEESE WERE HANGING AROUND IN THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY FOR ABOUT 8 OR 9 MONTHS. I’D NEVER SEEN ANY OTHERS LIKE THEM. / I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THEY’RE WHITE CHINESE GEESE AND I THINK THAT THAT’S WHY THEY LEFT…THEY COULDN’T UNDERSTAND A WORD THE CANADA GEESE WERE SAYING !! A HIKING TRAIL IN THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

I had set my tripod up and was waiting for a large female red-tailed hawk to fly to one of her favorite trees one morning in late september. After about an hour I took a second away from looking at the tree and to stretch, looked around and saw this guy about 70 yards off to my right I had to move my camera slowly enough to not scare him off but fast enough to get the shot. / I got lucky and here he is. I later showed this image to a couple of the rangers in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, ( This was actually taken less than a quarter of a mile from the Park Headquarters ) and they both agrred that was about the biggest buck they had seen in the valley in quite some time. / Just as a point of reference, at full extension my tripod is close to 6’ tall; when the camera is mounted, the lens is very close to 6’ off the ground and you can get an idea of his size by the shooting angle.

THIS TRAIN, THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY SCENIC RAILWAY, ONLY RUNS A COUPLE DAYS A WEEK. UNLESS THEY’VE CHANGED THINGS AND I DON’T KNOW ABOUT IT ( AFTER ALL, THEY DON’T TELL ME EVERYTHING ! ) IT RUNS ON WEDNESDAYS AND SUNDAYS FROM CLEVELAND TO AKRON AND BACK AGAIN THROUGH THE CUYAHOGA VALLEY NATIONAL PARK.
