Developed and built by Panavia, a tri-national consortium consisting of British Aerospace (then the British Aircraft Corporation), MBB of West Germany, and Alenia Aeronautica of Italy, the Tornado first flew on August 14, 1974. / The Tornado GR4 is a variable geometry, two-seat, day or night, all-weather attack aircraft, capable of delivering a wide variety of weapons. Powered by two Rolls-Royce RB 199 Mk 103 turbofan engines, the GR4 is capable of low-level supersonic flight and can sustain a high subsonic cruise speed. The aircraft can fly automatically at low level using terrain-following radar when poor weather prevents visual flight. / XV (R) Squadron / Elvington, York / Aug. 2005

One of the few remaining F-4 Phantom II’s, performing at the 2008 Airpower over Hampthon Roads Airshow. The F-4 Phantom II is a twin engine, all weather, tactical fighter-bomber. It originally performed three tactical air roles: air superiority, interdiction and close-air support. The F-4 continues to serve in retirement as the QF-4 Aerial Target, an unmanned, high performance aerial target used for live air-to-air and surface-to-air missile tests. Image was taken in Langley, VA. Pictured is a patriotic jet jockey hard at work -

This is an older image that I have been meaning to post. It was taken in 2006 during the airshow at Naval Air Station Oceana (Master Jet Base). Just several weeks later the F-14D Tomcat’s performed their last flight, as they were retired and scrapped. Planes shown in this image are from Strike Fighter Squadron VF-31, also known as the Tomcatters. (Based on Nimitz-Class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt – CVN71).
My son turned to watch in disbelief and amazement as his toy plane actually took flight in the living room. After grazing my head it eventually crashed and burned near the end table. Both have been grounded ever since…. This is straight out of the camera. Nothing is attached to the airplane. The secret to the shot lies in the EXIF data which I have provided below. Camera: Canon EOS 40D / Exposure: 1/3200 sec / Aperture: f/2.2 / Focal Length: 50 mm / ISO Speed: 3200 / Exposure Bias: 0 EV / Flash: Flash did not fire
I’m not sure what we have for fuel but it makes me happy. /
I’m feeling supersonic / Give me gin and tonic Oasis | SUPERSONIC (click through to the music video which I had never seen till last night and incredibly, is full of passenger jets). This tee has been simmering away for quite a while. The jets are all computer renders of a modified copyright free 3d model. For the sound challenge. You can vote for this entry by clicking here. I’ve narrowed it down, but can’t decide on a t-shirt colour to enter – please let me know what your pick is.

The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a carrier-capable ground-attack aircraft designed for the United States Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. The delta winged, single turbojet-engined Skyhawk was designed and produced by Douglas Aircraft Company, and later McDonnell Douglas. It was originally designated the A4D under the US Navy’s pre-1962 designation system. Fifty years after the aircraft’s first flight, and having played key roles in the Vietnam War, the Falklands War, and the Yom Kippur War, a few of the nearly 3,000 Skyhawks produced remain in service with several air arms around the world, including active duty on the aircraft carrier of the Brazilian Navy / (Wikipedia) Best viewed large This is a 3D Digital image.
