Arrested Expansion is a symbolic scene that depicts a combination of self-excluding objects that might not be present in real life. Objects in the secluded room make the viewer feel claustrophobic and unreal, which might be compared to someone’s mental delusion based on a medical condition. Image is a mixture of photo stock with some 2D vectors, and 3D objects. Photoshop, 3ds max, Illustrator. / The most common cause of cardiac arrest is a heart rhythm disorder or arrhythmia called ventricular fibrillation (VF). The heart has a built-in electrical system. When a contraction happens, blood is pumped. But in ventricular fibrillation, the electrical signals that control the pumping of the heart suddenly become rapid and chaotic. As a result, the lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles, begin to quiver (fibrillate) instead of contract, and they can no longer pump blood from the heart to the rest of the body. If blood cannot flow to the brain, it becomes starved of oxygen, and the person loses consciousness in seconds. Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 15×20 / 2009 Related work: / The Waterman: Unio Mystica This is the second panel of The Waterman triptych. While the central panel represents the Christ as the macrocosm, the side panels are the microcosm, represented by the Four Elements and their manifestation in the physical world. Ignis Aeris is the yang pillar, the elements Fire and Air. Volatile and oriented upward, these elements are connected to the realms of the abstract thinking and intuition. Fire is the energy, passion and primeval instincts, that need to be balanced by the intellect (Air) in order to manifest in a most constructive way. The certainty of the Divine, that comes from the heart and from a primal knowledge, needs to be shaped by the intellect in order to become less aggressive and to expand (the butterflies rising from the fire and flying upward). Only through a perfect combination of faith and reason we can access the Divine and understand Its Laws. At the basis of the picture, handling the creative power of Fire, we see the Magician of the Tarot, which I represented wearing the skin of Nemean Lion, just like Greek hero Herakles. He represents the first step in the Hero’s Journey, or that path that each one of us need to find out and go through in order to become Whole with the Universe. The Magician is the one who uses his power of will (Fire) and mental skills (Air) in order to find his own path.

I went for a hot air balloon ride a couple of weeks ago – it’s quite the way to travel. I was surprised by the accuracy of the ‘steering’. The wind direction varies with altitude, so the pilot took us up and down into different air currents to control our direction. We landed within a few hundred metres of the target – after a 20km flight. Mind you, we did crash into a tree during the landing. This is an image looking into the ballon from the basket.

Completed April 2008. www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “All living beings have the Buddha nature and can become Buddhas” / – Buddha Buddha Within illustrates the story of personal awakening. My understanding of the personal awakening process is that when undergoing the final awakening stage, the kundalini (rainbow serpent) becomes an intense fire (red/orange beside the tree trunk) shooting through the spine engulfing the body. The energy (green vortexes) required is enormous. As the kundalini reaches the crown chakra, it fully opens and all earthly limitations drop away. This being is no longer tied to a religion or faith but now embraces them all as represented by the sacred symbols in the tree. The consciousness now resides in the higher self and is one with the universe and all that is. When the transformation is complete sonic waves (the four vertical crystalline waves) travel out into the universe to let all of creation know of the grace that has taken place. All life is naturally drawn to the radiant and divine being that has become pure Buddha consciousness (centre). At each of the chakra points on the Buddha is a Swarovsky crystal in the relevant chakra colour. Crystal magnifies the properties of the chakra energy. / Buddha Within is divided into four quadrants (earth, fire, water, air) and the five elements including precious metals (bottom corners). The red veins dividing the quadrants represent the lower dimension (inner earth). The higher dimension is represented by the white equilateral triangle. If you look closely, you can see the texture of the underlying branches in the tree. These were meticulous painted before adding the covering of leaves. The tree must be complete in the physical, in order to emit the complete energy of the life form. Imbibed in the painting is sand from a sand mandala created by Gyuto Monks. They had spent a week painstakingly building an exquisite sand mandala. Upon its completion the mandala was ceremonially deconstructed and the sand poured into the local river for healing, accompanied by prayer and the blasting of Tibetan ceremonial horns. Some of the sand is held back and distributed to those who attend the ceremony: it holds sacred healing properties. I used some of the sand from this mandala, mixing it in the purple paint used for the crown charka encircling the white triangle and Buddha. Buddha Within is the third in a series and preceded by The Dream and The Awakening.

I shot this on digital, which I’m now ashamed off, but there is no post production at least. That figure is my old flatmate, good friend, and occasional crazy project partner, Crispy DeVille, down in Sorrento somewhere. I think almost all of us jumped off but he was the only one who did it with any grace.

The symbolism of this piece is quite rich, and in further researches I found out that I ended up making relations between all the representations without consciously being aware of it. The Chemistry is about inner alchemy and how the power of transformation manifests itself through Will. That’s basically my version of the ancient illustrations on alchemy in which we see a dragon-serpent “wrapping” a maiden. In my version, for artistical reasons, I decided not to draw the serpent involving the maiden’s body, but putting her closer to the background, and showing her body changing according to the colors of the environment – which are the colors of the four elements. The serpent is a representation of the unconscious forces of Will. The maiden raises from a pond (the beginning of all things, regeneration, new birth) that has been formerly muddy and still (the dark green color at the edges), and now is made clear by the power of fire (strength, courage, will, passion), or the dragon. A bunch of monarch butterflies come out the pond. The butterfly is one of the symbols of the Gemini sign (Mercury) and the classical representation of regeneration and rebirth. The maiden’s hair turns first into green grass from which 3 lotus flowers (another symbol of rebirth) arise, and then into fire. The dragon’s head show itself among the profusion of hair. The four elements are clearly present, in images and colors: Fire (dragon’s head, the top of the picture, the color red), Earth (grass and leaves, the color green), Air (butterflies, the color yellow) and Water (the pond, the color blue). It’s part of our journey as human beings to face muddy waters throughout our life. But to remain stagnant in them is our choice. We all have the inner strength to being born again, to rebuild ourselves – we just need to accept the changes and look toward the future. My husband, my son and their friend Erich are all involved in a local gliding club…and always suggesting I paint an aeroplane lol I thought, there’s no way i can do that! / But i found a way, after lots of thinking on the subject to incorporate a sort of flying contraption i designed myself into this piece. My girl is onward bound and it’s semi-self portrait i guess you could say…altho most people don’t see the resemblance to me….she is a lot younger, perhaps how i would like to be thought of lol Also inspired by my lovely and ever patient friend Christine / a fabulous friend and textile artist, her threads and yarn and tactile things have affected me on an immense scale, so that all my work these days is imbued with these elements….although there is no actual wool or thread in the painting, i have used these as inspiration for her scarf and hair detail. The khaki overalls are what i wear when i’m painting, with a white singlet in summer, or a jumper in winter…...i am yet to find a hairdresser who could accomplish this hairstyle for me.. the little parrot represents conscience, a little voice that knows right from wrong….this is an idea loosely taken from a movie i saw a while ago ‘The Golden Compass’ I dedicate this painting to Christine, as she has listened to all my crazy ideas, and very carefully encourages me or points out things that may help, and i don’t know where i’d be without her…..thanx Chris :) Patchwork and patterns, repitition, daisies, journeys, serene expressions, genuity…..

I have never seen this more true than my own life. As everyday I soften my thinking to better feeling thoughts I experience new vista’s to guide me towards that which I am becoming and that which I desire. Today has been such an easy day full of butterfly vibrations and lovely sounds and visions and YOU! xox
