In South Australia’s mid-north there are many towns whithering away. Once centres for the surrounding farmlands, they are now bypassed for the larger regional centres and cities. / The only thing that passes through here now is the breeze, as it blows through theweeds and native flowers, now permanent features of a once proud railway station and platform. / Manoora – situated between Saddleworth and Burra
It was a lovely day in September! Just three months ago! And ever so different. It is good to be able to look back … and to look ahead by looking back. Green times shall come again. Taken near Maartensdijk on an old straight country-lane which is partly lined by wonderful old beech-trees and indeed is great for cycling. Near Maartensdijk, 21st September 2008, 10.22 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 70 mm / F 6.3, 1/50, ISO 400

65 years ago many young men answered the call to free Europe from an evil empire that was called the Third Reich. Many unfortunately made the ultimate sacrifice during operation Overlord or D-Day and the many months to come thereafter. Godspeed my fellow Veterans.
I’ve been watching to much history channel again but I had some fun with this idea, I hope you get it and more importantly like it. It’s meant to be reminiscent of a scene in Starwars where Obi wan uses the force to trick the storm troopers into letting them pass without looking at their ID or the droids in the back of the speeder. In my design the soldiers are still stormtroopers as they were called this at the time and the driods have been subbed for more appropriate radios. The characters in the car are meant to remind you of Luke and Obi wan but are actually local french people attempting to pass a german road block in 1943. Oh how the mind wanders! Here’s a few images showing how I put this design together. original sketch: Vector drawing created from the sketch: detailed view of colour drawing finished in photoshop: If you like this you might like this other design in a simular style /
I am in the centre with flag and my son From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia / This article is about the 1989 demonstration. For the mathematical contest commemorating it, see Baltic Way (mathematical contest).* Human chain formed in Lithuania / The Baltic Way or Baltic Chain (also Chain of Freedom,[1] Estonian: Balti kett, Latvian: Baltijas ceļš, Lithuanian: Baltijos kelias) was a peaceful political protest on August 23, 1989. Approximately two million people joined their hands to form a human chain spanning over 600 kilometres (370 mi) across the three Baltic states – Estonian SSR, Latvian SSR, and Lithuanian SSR, republics of the Soviet Union. It marked the 50th anniversary of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. The pact and its secret protocols divided Eastern Europe into spheres of influence and led to the occupation of the Baltic states in 1940. The event was organized by Baltic pro-independence movements: Rahvarinne of Estonia, Popular Front of Latvia, and Sąjūdis of Lithuania. The protest was designed to draw world’s attention by showcasing popular desire for independence and solidarity among the Baltic states. It has been described as an effective publicity campaign, emotionally captivating and visually stunning scene.2 The event presented an opportunity for the Baltic activists to promote their view of illegal Soviet occupation and position the question of Baltic independence not as a political matter, but as a moral issue. Soviet authorities in Moscow responded to the event with intense rhetoric,[2] but failed to take any constructive actions that could bridge the widening gap between the Baltic states and the Soviet Union. Within six months from the protest, Lithuania became the first of the Republics of the Soviet Union to declare independence.
