  • Afternoon light filtering through the trees… Location: Woodside (Adelaide Hills), South Australia Taken in Autumn ‘08 Featured in The Adelaide Hills group 2008 More from the Autumn Afternoon Series…

  • an incredible Italian sunset driving from Italy into Austria

  • I uploaded this sometime ago in color but I wanted to see what it would look like in b&w and then I added a warming filter turned up quite a bit because I like how it made the light look.

  • A fact never to be underestimated – someone, out there, may still call this their birthplace. It captured my attention while in the car on my way south. A short walk on the gravel road is all it took to reach the old house that parted with its best years sometime in the last millennium. That colour, the textures of decaying wood, rusting roof and the remains of the dead tree, fallen where it lived, still searching with its long fingers for the occupants, long gone. I was mesmerised by the scene. There is something profoundly sad about the remains of buildings, any kind of ruins. Is it because they remind us of the inevitable and our disposability in this world. And all the usual questions: how old is it, who lived in it, and will it make it to the next autumn or even next week? Time to go, I had better move. The sky of ‘I mean business’ colour has been gathering strength for a while. Its forward party already seized the strategic heights from the playful patches of the late afternoon sun. When it hits, it will hit hard. On the way back, just one more look … enough time to take another breath of impressions, to treasure, and an image to share, with you.

  • While visiting beautiful Folly Beach, South Carolina, in April, 2008, I lay on the bed listening to the ocean waves and watched the sun’s rays cross the room. I grabbed my camera and began taking pictures of the sun’s progress across the wall and came up with this. I’ve always loved the artist Andrew Wyeth and this reminded me a bit of his work. - Featured in the Featuring the Shadows Group, January 5, 2009 / - Featured in the Contrasting Perceptions Group, May, 2009

  • I was back up at the Bunkyou Civic Centre yesterday, this time with one of my students. The sunset was extraordinary. It was impossible to control the lens-flare as I was shooting straight into the sun for this shot. Five-shot bracketed HDR with very little done to the colour. This is pretty much, apart from a bit of a shift in the tonal contrast, what the scene looked like through the lens. Nikon D300 / Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 ED / 5-frame bracketed burst merged in Photomatix 2.5.4

  • Captured on a very bright sunny winter’s day in December down by the banks of the Ottawa River after a fresh snowfall. The late afternoon sun cast very long shadows that accentuated the loneliness of the park bench while also conjuring up the summer past. Taken behind Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Also appears in the calendar Reflections of the Seasons

  • I have a bit of an obsession with anything the sunlight hits late in the afternoon. / Hope ya like it. Enjoy! _

  • Gerroa is an idyllic village at the Kiama end of Seven Mile Beach on the south coast of New South Wales … their sunset on Tuesday (6 January 08) was aided by smoke haze from bushfires in the Morton National Forest. After a day in which temperatures reached 40 degrees celsius and beyond, it was a pleasure to have the surf lapping my ankles as the sun slipped behind the mountains. My Bubblesite also shows works in categories. Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM
