  • I had the chance recently to visit the New England Aquarium with my daughter. They have a wonderful penguin exhibit there, with three different species. These are African penguins, the only species of penguin that breeds in Africa. Here, I have removed them from the indoor exhibit of fake rocks in a large pool to the more natural setting of a rocky South African shoreline. These birds are monogamous and listed as a vulnerable species. This drawing was done with charcoal and graphite on Strathmore smooth bristol paper. The original 9”x12” unframed drawing is available. 712 views as of 11/07/09

  • These refugee’s were traveling to Chad via Niger and stopped near our rig site to make repairs to their truck. After giving them water food and milk for the women, babies and children, they were gracious enough to let me take some shots. They still had 1000km to travel at this point…......Life is sometimes very cruel! Unfortunately i could not get any better shots of the women and children as they were safely nestled up on top. / Shot in the Sahara desert, Libya. / Nikon D300, 24 – 120mm at 58mm, f18, 1/250, ISO 200. / / . / / . /

  • One of the main elements involved in the (African) Yoruba divination system is the divination tray. This tray (Ifá) serves as the template on which sacred signs related to the personal concerns of a diviner’s client are traced as the point of departure for analysis. This time the idea was that of using this divination tray as a basic platform to display the main Orishas _ the African gods and goddesses_ and their peculiar attributes. / So this is basically a Cinema4D render, made in collaboration with artist Artpearl, who modelled the 3D divination tray. / Some visual effects were created and blended with Photoshop; there´s also a bit of digital painting. (CINEMA 4D is a commercial, cross-platform, high-end 3-D graphics application, produced by MAXON Computer, Germany. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—- “In Yoruba mythology, Shango is perhaps the most popular Orisha; he is a Sky Father, god of thunder and lightning. He is considered the center point of the religion as he represents the Oyo people of West Africa. / The energy given from this Deity is also a major symbol of African resistance against an enslaving European culture. He rules the color red and white; his sacred number is 6; his symbol is the oshe (double-headed axe), which represents swift and balanced justice. He is owner of the Bata (3 double-headed drums) and of music in general, as well as the Art of Dance and Entertainment.” / This image belongs to a series I´ve entitled “The Orishas Collection”. Main figure was obtained by changing morphs on M4; I modelled all clothing, props and accesories for this character. / You can find a brief on this Orisha by clicking here

  • It´s an ancient African belief that Shigidis constitute the most potent protective energy for home, family and business by repeling Death, Disease, Court Case, Loss, as well as a lot of other aspects. / Nowadays, a lot of people continue to use it on the belief that it is a powerful tool to protect their property and all those in it. It´s been said that this tool focuses on not allowing any negative energy to penetrate the premises. / Well, this is my vision on the Shigidis. / Main figure is an original Cinema 4D render; rest was done in postwork by blending layers and a bit of digital painting.
