  • This image grew organically from the “Chiefs wife”. I was thinking of the regal aloof nature of the African queen, which I had drawn earlier and then I thought of the scary twighlight world of the Sangoma, or witchdoctor, in juxtapostion to this calmer world. Sort of like the yin/yang, good and evil aspects that co-exist within each of us.

  • Digital manipulation. A collage of photographs of dancing cranes. Inspired by a trip to Zimbabwe where I saw mating pairs of these Crowned Cranes dancing and calling.

  • Whilst traveling in the north of Namibia in a 4wd, we could go almost a whole day without seeing anyone. We’d set our tent up in the middle of nowhere, wash in streams amongst desert elephants and wake up to wildlife surrounding us. Seeing animals in a NP like the Serenghetti is thrilling, but to enjoy it without another tourist in site for miles is a different experience altogether and one of the most exciting to date.

  • This is an old school bell at a rural school. It is still being used to signal the change of lessons. / 1090 Views – 500+ Viewing Group

  • This is an acrylic painting I did a couple of years ago in South Africa, now in my wife’s private collection :) Lets try to keep these amazing cats sleeping peacefully under the stars for as long as possible.

  • WILD & FREE / / We were really lucky to come across these “Little Bee Eaters” whilst on safari in Samburu National Park. They didn’t sit still for long, always moving then flying away, but when they did I was fortunate enough to get this shot. / / (Samburu National Park – Kenya) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

  • Black and white version of Mramba, to me this has a whole different level of intensity. Which version do you like? Captive animal. / / / / The future of African predators is in peril. It is estimated that only 10,000-15,000 free-roaming African lions remain, down from 50,000 a decade ago. African lions are now listed as Endangered (West African subspecies) and Vulnerable (East and Southern African subspecies) by the World Conservation Union and are on Appendix II of the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) list. African lions are in danger of disappearing altogether due to disease (FIV, bovine tuberculosis, canine distemper) and habitat encroachment. Today’s modern world subjects lions and other wildlife to many dangers. Mankind constantly seizes more and more of the remaining wild areas of Africa, forcing lions onto smaller and smaller parcels of land. Large-scale developments destroy the lion’s natural habitat. In areas inhabited by livestock, lions are frequently shot, snared or poisoned. And sadly, the hunting of these amazing animals for “sport,” for man’s pleasure, is still encouraged as a revenue producing industry by many African governments. African predators simply will not survive unless they are protected. 100% of proceeds from any sales of this image will be donated to the Virginia Zoo

  • Canvas Print sold of this artwork on 23 October 2009. Acrylic Painting on Artist Canvas Panel 18” x 24” (45,72cm x 60,96cm) commissioned. Completed 11 May 2008. ______ / My version of a scene from Baobab Alley in Madagascar. This alley is lined on both sides by these giant Baobab trees. It has been declared a National Tourist attratction in Madagascar. In the rest of the regions on this large island, these trees are being brought down at an alarming rate. I wanted to portray their plea by having them placed in such a ways as if they were holding “hands” as protection against MAN. The setting sun symbolises the possibility that these gentle giants may become extinct if we do not take care. / _____ / Image copyright: Mariaan Krog 2008 / _____ / For buying info, see top right of this page. • Acrylic on Canvas 120×40cm I love the way the sky darkens over african plains just before an afternoon storm. The sky goes dark and the land still reflects the sun’s rays. When it rains while the sun shines we call it a “Monkeys Wedding”. As simple as it appears, this is a painting from my soul.
