Whilst traveling in the north of Namibia in a 4wd, we could go almost a whole day without seeing anyone. We’d set our tent up in the middle of nowhere, wash in streams amongst desert elephants and wake up to wildlife surrounding us. Seeing animals in a NP like the Serenghetti is thrilling, but to enjoy it without another tourist in site for miles is a different experience altogether and one of the most exciting to date.
At the end of a long 14 hour game drive, there’s nothing better than standing with a cold beer and watching the sun set over the plains, before heading back to camp for something to eat! / / (Masai Mara – Kenya) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /
Skies alight with burning fire / Smouldering with clouds of grey / Flashing yellows, to admire / Blinding light in dancing play / To what power can compare / This awesome sight that we behold / What could make a person stare / And make a story here unfold / A feline, such a stunning beast / Who’s beauty cannot be denied / Such beauty for thine eyes to feast / Of shimmered gold and blackened hide / The leopard proudly takes her stance / They say her spots cannot be changed / And while she makes her perfect dance / To want to would just be deranged / By Julie Langford . Julie Langford whom we all know and love here at RedBubble, approached me when I posted the original Poser excited at doing a collaboration where she would apply a sunset to the image. I accepted, and needless to say the result is stunning as you see before you! But then, Julie asked if I would like her to write some prose to accompany the piece when I posted it, and again I accepted. The poem is also hers, and I must say she has made me proud! We hope you all enjoy this collaboration or as I like to call it a “Coolaboration”! I am going to pledge to donate 100% of all sales proceeds from cards and prints of this beautiful collage to Wildlife Conservation Society / / / / / / / Portfolio Areas / Tigers / Wildlife / Macro / Landscape / Birds / Abstracts / Cats~wild and domestic

I need a big canvas print of this so I had to reprocess the whole thing. / Firstly, I merged the 6 shots 2 photos at a time, which resulted in flawless merging of the clouds and ‘better’ merging of the waves. After that I still spent about 20 minutes on the waves. You can only see merging traces at 100% zoom on the 70003600 resolution, on the previous one there was merging mistakes everywhere, visible at full view on the 1200700 resolution…so big improvement there. Huge improvement on shadows and highlights too. There’s barely a blown-out highlight or black shadow, where as the previous one had a lot of both. Colour and contrast: This version has much less contrast and it has true colour. All I did was increase the black of yellows and reds with selective colour. minor levels adjustments( too much blows out highlights and blackens the shadows). So overall, a much more natural look. And much more pleasing to look at. I think I’m probably gonna lose fav’s with this version because the colours are less interesting. But I’ll gain fav’s from the people who appreciate a properly exposed and processed nature photo? African Elephants have a special place in my heart. They are such gentle giants. The closeness they share within their family group is a true example for us humans! A sense of place / The heat of Africa (as a place) is felt here. The typical African silhouettes strengthens this feeling. This image has been viewed 9500 times since July 2008! Along the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga, South Africa, there is a place called God’s Window. A path leads away from it, up the hill. But I wonder… does it really stop at the top? Should anybody be interested in buying this as a card with text, just drop me a bubblemail.

Even the Midwest can seem exotic at times. It may appear to be a shot of an African safari, but in reality, it’s just a few trees at the edge of our high school parking lot. Thanks for viewing!
We had to wait for a while, for the Elephants to walk into the scene, and for the mountain to clear. A very pleasant wait indeed ! Sundown does not last very long on the Equator. Shot on a CanonEOS40D. With hoya polariser attached. FEATURED IN / http://www.redbubble.com/groups/style-class-elegance

This was originally a photo I took in Botswana, at the Okavango Delta. It was the same sunset cruise that Resplendency was taken at. This was a bit later in the evening, on the way back to our campsite. Thanks to my new found love of texture layering, I was able to transform this photo completely. Tweaking of colour balance and layering a rusted texture with it has given it a more painted look. All done in Photoshop CS4 To me, it epitomises my need to explore the world and discover as much as I can. The Okavango Delta, Botswana, Africa. This body of water is the largest inland delta in the world, and one of the wildest parts of Southern Africa. Many of the animals inhabiting this region have never had human contact and thus, are as carnal as they come. That’s a comforting thought, when you are spending two nights bush camping among this habitat lol! No toilets, showers or indoor areas, aside from our tents. At night time all was silent, apart from the calls of elephants, hyenas, jackals, and what I thought was a train moving in the distance.. turned out to be a pride of lions roaring after they had killed their dinner. By mid afternoon the temperature reached 48 degrees celcius (118F) on our first day. That kind of heat is impossible to escape, with little to no humidity, the only water we had to drink had been turned hot with the heat. Needless to say, tempers flared and people cried. But hey, it was fun! I took this photo as we were being poled across the delta to the island in its centre. We traveled in mokoros, African style gondolas, carved entirely out of one tree trunk. Once on the island we trekked on foot, saw wild elephants, zebras, giraffes and wart hogs. Thankfully no lions, or other members of the big 5 turned up while were in such a vulnerable position. On our first night, elephants almost stampeded our camp site. The matriarch appeared at one end of the camp, stepped on one of our groups tents and was threatened to charge. All I clearly remember was someone scream. Next thing I knew, we were all pushing each other out of the way to run. But run where? We were on the banks of a delta where crocodiles and hippos lived. In the trees were possibly leopards and beyond our camp we knew there were lions. For a brief moment I thought, death by elephant?? We were however, saved by one of our guides, who hurled a flaming log at the elephant, hitting it square on the head. The matriarch stopped in her tracks, stood still for about a minute (felt like an eternity) and retreated. All of us breathed a sigh of relief, till a girl in our group said “elephants never forget”. Gulp. Added texture from www.deviantart.com free use stock – t_a_g_g_e_r. Layered original shot twice, desaturared one layer. Added texture twice, altered hue slightly on both, increased brightness, decreased contrast. Canon SX100IS MCN: CA586-6FEED-2J2VL
