I took this photo in the Deadflei, a dried up oasis in the Namib Desert. The dead trees that stand here are up to 1000 years old.

Magnificent sand dune – Sahara Desert, Morocco / This was taken at first light. The fresh sand dunes with no human foot prints, just the tracks of the native animals that have been wandering during the night. We were lucky to be able to camp in a part of the Sahara where there where no other tourists. / I don’t think i have been anywhere else as quite as in the middle of the desert first thing in the morning where all I could hear was the ringing in my ears.
Karibu, this is Tanzania.
Into a brutal harsh desert we are born. Alone. Sentenced to wander golden dunes of time in search of meaning. Alone, we are follow an invisible path to carry us nowhere… Alone, we finally arrive at both the place we sought… and from where we first began… so many eons ago. Near Merzouga, Moroco.
Sun rising over dunes on a South African coastline. Shot from a helicopter.
Taken in the small dusty village of Argo, Northern Sudan during overland travels through Africa. This small boy has the most captivating expression as he watched the strangers in town go about their business.
This is the Noth Eastern area of the sahara desert in Libya. As you can see, plenty of sand! Quite an amazing place, in some areas all the eye can see i all directions is sand! No trees, bushes, rocks or buildings! / . /

My choice for Africa’s handsomest antelope, the Oryx (Gemsbok in Afrikaans) is one of the few large mammals that can tolerate the Namib Desert’s extreme conditions. It’s face looks like a delicate watercolor. These dunes in Central Namibia are part of the Namib-Naukluft National Park – the largest park in Namibia and, in fact, the largest park in Africa.

The Namib Desert, Namibia, Southern Africa. Taken around 4pm. We had spent a good few hours trekking through the desert, with a guide showing us everything a person would need to know to survive out there alone. This was about 5 minutes away from the spot where Forsaken was taken. It’s such a vast expanse of desolation. The idea of being caught out here on your own is terrifying. Extreme temperatures and scorching sun by day, and near freezing temperature at night, it’s a place to visit, but not to stay. I wanted to capture some of that isolated, barren and incredibly steep surfaces of the dunes. I chose b&w to enhance the emptiness and ‘desertion’. Minor adjustment of contrast and saturation to enhance the dune shadows. Sold as a Matted Print Canon SX100IS MCN: C7B06-8EFFC-307D0

Trekking in the huge Sahara desert is my dream coming true in every trip. Whatever the country, Algeria, Mauritania, or Niger and Libya soon, “conquering” the dunes and enjoying the view from the top is a unique feeling. Ahnet, in Algeria, is an area with huge dunes. With the human element and your imagination, you can visualize the immensity!
Ancient dead trees (probably acacia and probably only one tree that has split under the strain of time and heat) wrestling at Sossusvlei within the Namib-Naukluft National Park. This is in the Namib desert of Namibia. / The remaining skeletons of trees here, which are believed to be about 900 years old, are now darkened because the intense sun has scorched them. The wood does not decompose because it is so dry. Featured in: - Unlimited Quality. Dec. 2009.
Taken at dusk in the Namib desert. Nature at it’s best and most simple.
